The start of this thread is unbelievable! Some of the comments any utterly amazing. It just shows people's prejudices andhow they prejudge player's.
Currently I believe the biggest seller in the food outlets at the memorial stadium is Humble Pie.

We've got to stop playing Nichols - simple. I know people will come up with all sorts of defences, but we can't carry this guy in one of the striker slots. No. You (and clarke) need to recognise what he is - a attacking midfielder. Indeed one of the best in the division. Fantastic at making goal scoring opportunities when played in the right way. Never ever been correctly played since he has been with us.

Clearly DC trying things tonight. Played a 4-1-4-1 formation. Really really felt for Nichols up front on his own. He had to keep going and getting a the ball when it was passed short. Hes got his back to goal and just got totally smotjered by two MASSIVE centre backs. The whole game he was doubled up on. The irony is it would have really suited Gaffney. Really pointless playing him that way. It's just not his game. You would have been better playing Broadbent up front in tbat formation.
Worryingly we got totally and utterly done down both flanks. Leadbitter was either injured from the start or absolutely woeful and removed at half time. We were better when James Clarke came on.
Upson a definite improvement to the squad. Very defensive and most comfortable sat infront of the back four. I thought second have when DC swaped lines and upson over and pushed Upson further forward he became ineffective.
Sam Mathews in the first half was bundled over from behimd time and again and the ref gave nothing. He literally had not one decision go in his favour. On one game its difficult to judge but he didn't appear to have the flate and creativity of a sercombe.
In stark contrast to others on here i thought Bennett looled very uncomfortable in this formation.
Interestingly, DC spent a considerable amount of time telling the coaching team what was wrong. Particularly defensively.
I would say overall there is a considerable amount of work to be done on the training ground before the season starts.

Can we rename this thread "Fact-less Speculation through the roof"?

Decent thread until the last couple of words tbh. How is Gaffers so far off the mark? Scored one less league goal than Ellis in 621 less minutes. Appreciate Ellis has done wonderful this season in terms of his all round play, but not sure why you're writing Gaffers off? look at the Match moments For me Gaffney gets the assist for the Partington Goal. He was being marked by two & it was his pressure that caused the defender to head the ball to Partington. Harrison gets two assists for winning the pen & laying the pass to sercombe for the third. They way we play neither Gaffney or Harrison are getting 25 goals a season. There job is to make space for the attacking Midfielders. This has been really effective against Portsmouth & Badford City. If we win who cares who scores? Well done DC great tactics to undo these sides.

What Antiono's plan shows is that you could get a stadium on the site. I am in agreement with tommym9 we should at least explore the possibility. One Stand could overhang the cut (Fulham FC Style)as it takes no floating traffic at that point. Lets be honest a Mem redevelopment while we are still playing there would be a difficult, take longer & likely be more expensive. At the very least ask the question.

It amazes me how negative some people are. Very unlucky at Charlton not to get something, four wins on the bounce including a win against a higher division club, a brace from a debut striker on Tuesday and yet team full of cracks that are being papered over? Frankly a Bizarre post! So you are content that we don't need to replace Monty and we've got cover if O Clarke is ever injured or suspended? As far as 4 wins on the bounce if we make that 5, or at least avoid defeat on Saturday, then things will start to look promising if we don't then we'll still be some way off being a top 10 side let alone top 6 this season. Have you heard DCs transfer day interview? He tried for two and lost out. More significant is his comments about the "right" player rather than "any" player. We do look a bit light on that side i would have to agree, but not the end of the world. It's not like we aren't getting crosses in and scoring goals! Brown and Partington BOTH sit top of the assist charts at the moment.

Wael has PM'd a Gashead on Twitter and confirms any signings are "Unlikely" oh dear... 4 wins on the spin has papered over some cracks here, me thinks!
4 wins on the spin would suggest that there aren't many cracks to paper over!!!
A last minute equaliser after losing 5 on the trot might be described as papering over the cracks! You need a new dictionary

Full strength then except at RB. Must say I thought we may have seen a bit of Telford by now. 4-5-1 ? Must be short. Three strikers on the bench?

Now looking at it from a FFP point of view you can see who our true competitors are. This is based on average attendances from last season. We have the 9th average attendance for the division. This means that if we have a true 'top six' budget then Weal & co have put in more than at least three other clubs. 18,167 - Bradford 16,823 - Portsmouth 12,688 - Blackburn 11,722 - Wigan 11,162 - Chalton 10,307 - MK Dons 09,783 - Rotherham 09,652 - Plymouth 09,302 - Bristol Rovers 08,294 - Oxford 07,406 - Southend 06,208 - Northampton 06,129 - Gillingham 06,021 - Doncaster 05,581 - Peterborough 05,507 - Shrewsbury 05,072 - Walsall 04,536 - Scunthorpe 04,514 - Oldham 04,477 - Wimbledon 03,845 - Bury 03,556 - Rochdale 03,456 - Blackpool 03,272 - Fleetwood Problem is Fleetwood prove that list is meaningless as they are probably one of the divisions biggest payers, I think it's more that just the stadium, as there's the club's location, the training ground, the salary package, potential to progress to the Championship, a decent experienced manager etc. Although Bury seem to be proving if you pay enough then players will sign regardless!!! Think you have nailed it topper! For what its worth my prediction after 46 games 1st - Bradford 2nd - MK dons 3rd - Fleetwood 4th - Wigan 5th - Rovers 6th - Blackburn 21st - Oldham 22nd - Oxford 23rd - Scunthorpe 24th - Blackpool

Got The Supporters Club news letter in the post today. The Back 6 pages list all the stadiums we travel to this season. Interestingly and on topic I was surprised how low the Capacity some of the stadiums are! The Mem is not great but their are some very poor Stadiums in this Division. Highlights the need for the new stadium .
31,367 - Blackburn 30,500 - MK Dons 27,111 - Chalton 25,136 - Bradford 25,023 - Wigan 20,700 - Portsmouth 16,750 - Blackpool 16,388 - Plymouth 15,231 - Doncaster 14,319 - Peterborough 13,500 - Oldham 12,500 - Oxford 12,392 - Southend 12,250 - Bristol Rovers 12,021 - Rotherham 11,640 - Bury 11,582 - Gillingham 11,300 - Walsall 10,249 - Rochdale 09,875 - Shrewsbury 09,088 - Scunthorpe 07,770 - Northampton 05,311 - Fleetwood 04,870 - Wimbledon

I guess DC hasn't yet decided who his first choice keeper is. One will get shirt 1 and I guess the other will get shirt 13. WE don't use 13. I would expect 21

Is today the day Sweeney joins?! It depends on when Stoke name their Prem Squad. If he is named then we won't get him. If he isn't named he will be ours on a Season long loan.
