Good read Buckrippers ,I also seem to remember Paul tait and Martin Cameron getting a huge amount of grief from certain parts of the terracing and even going back to Twerton days Dave Mehew always got shouted at by a few morons . I too have had players who I just can't get on with but I've never felt the need to verbally abuse them on the pitch.

Yeah, but Paul Tait was sh**.
He remains the only player I have ever abused at Rovers.
Not proud of it, just saying.

It's a minority and if other players were doing the business it would help to carry those off form. As it stands we have fallen for 5 years , been let down by so many managers and players, there has been ample opportunity for discontent. If we were a successful team nobody would be getting booed. You can see it's a minority of instigators, only have to read this forum to realise the mind set of some people. Some of the individuals berating players at games could do no better than berating themselves.

I think the general decline of the club since Holloway was sacked on and off the pitch has left everyone so deflated that it has turned to negativity, anger and resentment. Players and managers and board members are targeted as this negativity drips through.
As GD and BSS often say positivity is needed to help the club but this has been said so many times prior to further drops in fortune people just cant get positive. I think it will take something significant to pull everyone together again. Hopefully promotion this season may lead into a further promotion, new stadium, new investment and a general better atmosphere.
Its certainly easier for people to get behind players and give them more support when times are good but we are on a 14 year decline and many fans have only seen tough times and witnessed negativity on the terraces. I only remember being abusive to two or three players in my 25 years supporting the club but thats 2 or 3 too many.

I don't think the M32 was there when Carl Gilbert was playing was it?

I don't think the M32 was there when Carl Gilbert was playing was it? Maybe my dad was blaming him for the lack of decent road links to Eastville then!

I don't think JJ is a good example to use here. To come out with that article, regardless of whether he was misinterpreted or not, was a ridiculous thing to do at that stage.
I agree about Ellis though. Boos when he's come on, even in the last 2 home games. No need of it. He's done his time. Move on.

Enjoyable read once again Martin.
I spoke on a similar topic over on the I.F, and it still baffles me that 'supporters' would call there own player a c u next Tuesday and shout personal abuse. During the 90 minutes, it should be all about encouraging your own team and intimidating the opposition.
It's only natural to go "oh f**ks sake" when a striker balloons it over from 2 yards, but to then constantly berate your own player with personal insults is ludicrous. There's positive ways of improving a underperforming player with constructive shouts.
If a player is genuinely not good enough to pull on the blue and white quarters (look we've had enough of them), then it rests with the manager and powers above. Genuinely what is personal abuse going to achieve? Anyone who does shout these insults at our players, needs to seriously look at themselves.

I was trying to be funny by the way, not having a go at you. And just for the record I thought the temperature of the Bovril was spot on in Tote End.

f**k it... Yes I'm Ellis Harrison and please stop the abuse. I'm 20 years old and it doesn't look well on you if you're a 50 year old man calling me a rapist c*nt. Kind Regards.

Good read as always, I'm in slight disagreement with you this week though. Ellis Harrison was due a bit of stick to be fair after his petulant behaviour last year. Not saying hold a grudge against the lad or anything but ok to make feelings felt imho. He owed us good performances and an improved attitude and it seems that's what he's up for delivering, and i'll support him all the way. I actually think we're too supportive at times, Altrincham away aside, we rarely over-react towards players and management, when we do react in that manner I think it is usually totally deserved. Dag and Red away last year also springs to mind, Ward was shocked that fans were swearing and moaning at him, this was the 5th inept away performance (all watched by decent followings) in a row. At Barnet recently we were absolutely shocking, there were a few idiots who clapped the players off! - I would much rather boo them in that scenario, to me clapping after that is condoning the performance and telling the players that it was ok.

We have not been let down by players or managers. We have been let down by the BoD, end of. The support doesn't berate the BoD every time we lose a game or a player misses an easy chance. The type of grumble the article focuses on is a player/manager issue, but I do agree with you. Perhaps my wording was wrong. We have been let down by players and managers but the BoD have 'let us down'.

Who appoints the managers?
Who is responsible for the whole structure of the club?
Look at all the players and managers who have 'failed' at Rovers only to go on to better things at other clubs.
Only one constant in 15 years of decline and it ain't any player or manager.
