Long has been released by Blackpool and could be worth offering in for training with us this summer. If we could unlock his potential then the partnership with JCH could work quite well and their attributes could possibly compliment each other. If people just look at his goalscoring record you would probably say no*, but you need to look at the bigger picture and how he would work with JCH as a strike partner. Edit: *Long's goals to starts record in the league isn't as bad as I thought actually...21 goals from 64 starts. Long would be someone to look at but I'd actually prefer his ex Blackpool teammate Mark Cullen. Scored a few goals in the past and prefers a move to a L1 side in the summer instead of reuniting with Gary Bowyer at Bradford. He'd complement JCH quite well in my opinion as he is clinical in front of goal and likes to run into the channels. Not for me, I'd much rather take a closer look at Long in pre-season. I feel JCH and him could work quite well and would be worth looking at in training and a couple of games if he was willing. Cullen struggled to get games for Blackpool this season and then struggled for goals and starts in his loan in League Two. He also hardly played at all last season for whatever reason. You could say similar for Long too and in an ideal world we would have better first choice targets in mind, but I'd still like a look at Long in pre-season as you don't represent England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 level if you don't have something to your game.

I'm actually wondering if one of the players that Coughlan is in conversation with is Coventry's right back Jack Grimmer? Leaving them when his contract expires in the summer so would be available on a free and I think he's an improvement on anything we have. From what I know he's highly rated by Coventry fans but for whatever reason simply hasn't made the starting 11 this year. I'm sure he's on Widdrington's radar as he loves a Coventry player. Also as a replacement to Bonham, I'd love to see us sign Jay Lynch from AFC Fylde. He's their player of the year, even ahead of the divisions top scorer Danny Rowe and watching Fylde in the playoffs has really impressed me. Hargreaves was at the Fylde vs Harrogate game so he'll know about him I'm sure. Both suggestions linked with us now funnily enough. www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/transfer-news/coventry-city-jack-grimmer-bristol-16279452Good Right Back in my opinion, left out unfairly by Coventry but will shine for us if we play him. Mates with Tom Davies too apparently.

I feel positive on Chris long. He’s the sort of striker that Nichols could be if he got closer to goal.
Grimmer would be ok. Oddly, no right back particularly took my attention this year.
I’d fancy another go with Boateng. Whenever he’s not been a rovers shirt he’s looked different gravy.
I’ve said before- but Graham Carey is the so the obvious choice it hurts choice. A front three of Rodman, Carey and JCH would be too powerful for many defences.
I’m very pro Jakubiak if that’s a possibility.
Bonham- yes: lets.
I think getting the correct CB is going to be vital. But the “one” I’d go for really depends on whether cogs see us playing 2 or 1 up front. I’d take both Sweeneys if possible,

Rhys Healey did well on loan last year at MK dons. Was linked last summer. He’d be good foil for just about anyone.

It's about time we started taking regular punts on non league talent. It's worked (in general) for Peterborough for years, some you win, some you don't. But how many players have they bought for next to nothing and sold on for 6 figures 12/18 months later. Compliment that with a few experienced heads/loan players and good to go. I'm just not sure our fan base has the patience for youth and 'developing' talent. Expectations on the whole are normally unjustifiably high when it comes to transfers We have the perfect opportunity to do that now with the development squad, but I'm not sure how much they actually believe in it, with the players there earning "peanuts" according to DC. There are plenty of players that have caught my eye in the past season or two. Lewis Archer (Hednesford Town), Elliott Reeves (Ilkeston Town), Zak Goodson (Basford United), Ricky Aguiar (Worthing), Kwame Poku (Worthing), Ed Williams (Kidderminster Harriers), Andrew Wright (Coalville Town), Owen Windsor (Cirencester Town), Brad Lynch (Colne), Teshuane Tyreece-Walters (Greenwich Borough), Connor Stevens (Wealdstone), Noah Smerdon (Gloucester City), Luke Trotman (Darlington), Matty Bowman (Scarborough Athletic), Joe Raynes (Bath City) and Lucas Covolan (Woking) amongst them. Zak Goodson, Ed Williams, Owen Windsor, Brad Lynch, Connor Stevens, Noah Smerdon, Luke Trotman and Matty Bowman in particular would be high in my thoughts as ones with good potential to develop. 19-year-old former Everton and Blackburn youth Brad Lynch. 17 goals and about 13 or 14 assists from the wing in his first season of senior football. Don't think it will be long before he steps up the pyramid from Colne FC.

Btw on the topic of players/scouting, I'd like to see us keep eyes on the market in Scotland and Ireland. The latter in particularly as Preston have shown there's tonnes of great players in the Irish league, available for cheap and would likely be willing to come to us due to location, league status and probable pay rise. One Scottish player I'd LOVE us to go after is Lawrence Shankland at Ayr. Scored 29 in 33 last season and so far has 28 in 24. Just recently turned down a move to the Belgian second tier and said he's "motivated by game time, not money" so perhaps something we could offer that Championship clubs can't. Either way, probably out of our league but hell of a goalscorer. I still wish we had gone for Gavin Whyte (now a full Northern Ireland Int.) and Mark Sykes (Northern Ireland U21 captain) who I was banging on about for ages that eventually joined Oxford. Both look very promising. Apparently Karl Robinson will be looking to tap into the Irish market on both sides of the border this summer. www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/oxfordunited/usnews/17581031.oxford-united-looking-at-targets-in-both-irish-transfer-markets-karl-robinson/Ones I personally quite like in Northern Ireland are Liam Hassin (Larne), Ryan Carmichael (Portadown), Callum Ferris (Portadown), Kofi Balmer (Ballymena United) and Caolan Marron (Glenavon). In the Republic, Andrew Lyons (Bohemians), Ali Reghba, (Bohemians), Sean McLoughlin (Cork City), Thomas Byrne (St Pats), Mikey Drennan (Sligo Rovers), Trevor Clarke (Shamrock Rovers), Aaron McEneff (Shamrock Rovers) and Robbie Benson (Dundalk) are decent. Another couple of highly-rated ones over ìn Ireland are striker Neil Farrugia and centre back Liam Scales from UCD. They had trials with Man City recently and if nothing comes of that might be worth enquiring about. Jamie Lennon at St Pats and Dan Mandroiu at Bohemians are also decent.

I know from my time living there, he's a real promising keeper. I don't think you'd find another player his age that has as many minutes under his belt as Christy. All in League Two but definitely good enough to make the step up. Was naive and prone to mistakes at first (then, he was 18/19 when he started getting first team games for them) but is another very good prospect from their academy. The fact he's going for free is ludicrous in my humble opinion. Would be worth having him if we could get him, I'd like to see a battle between him and Bonham for the number one shirt - would bring out the best in both

Presumably, if he’s leaving on a free, he’s also run his contract down. Is he under 24 and would there be a compensation fee to pay? UTG!

17 goals in all competitions this season is a fantastic return. He's out of contract in the summer. Their left back/wing back Luke Leahy is another player I like. Leahy released by DC at Walsall. Joe Edwards released too, obviously ex city but wouldn’t mind us having a look at him.

Jon Guthrie told Walsall he was leaving some weeks ago. He’s a westcountry lad who played most of his football for Crewe. Worth a look.

Wouldn’t have him over Davies or Edwards. One defender I do think we should make an offer for though is AFC Wimbledon defender Deji Oshilaja. Had a good season and is available on a free transfer, has a bit of interest from teams higher up too.

Josh Morris released by Scunthorpe? What has happened to him? A year ago I would have been well happy with a signing like that.
