Talking of the Southampton academy, I think the young lad Farren Simons was on their books at one point. The 16-year-old has been making appearances for Barnstaple Town in the Southern League and is part of the Torquay United academy, where he scored on his U18 debut in the South West Counties Youth League back in November after scoring 18 goals in 19 games for the u16s. You have to ask why these players are not coming to the Gas, if they are local Bristol lads. Is it the players choice or Clubs like Southampton choosing other clubs rather than us. Question that I dont know the answer to by the way.

Luke Charman has the potential to play at a higher level and will be looking to impress for Darlington and step back up the pyramid. Former Newcastle youth.

Oh and the list goes on and on and on. Evander Grubb another example on a work experience loan this month at Bristol Manor Farm, from Huddersfield. (Link here he was released by Rovers after many seasons at the academy, I'm sure he made a season or maybe 2 at u18's). Was picked up at a Trail event after being released by the Gas with lots of scouts interested. As I have said many times, and I appreciate that this is a sweeping statement. For the amount of players that are leaving the Gas before making a first team debut and then go onto other clubs, some at higher level some at lower level, cant just be all about the Player. There is something fundamentally wrong with the coaching and decision making in my humble opinion. It would be interesting to know how many other lower league clubs Academy's produce first team players, I can't imagine any can be as poor as ours, with Kilgour being the last one! What's the betting Hargreaves, Hoole, Martinez and Mehew also all depart within the next year? How can Walker for example not make any progress before being released?

This is probably what Tom Parinellos tweet was about, joey does not seem interested in our younger players

The 21-year-old midfielder Zak Brown at Alvechurch would be another player worth scouting and keeping an eye on. A product of the West Brom academy, he trialled and scored for Aston Villa towards the end of last season before joining Alvechurch in the summer.

17-year-old midfielder Joe Adams has been impressing for Sholing in the Southern League and has also scored goals in Cup competitions vs Gosport Borough and Tiverton Town. Last night he also scored a couple of goals for Eastleigh in the FA Youth Cup and impressed. Worth a closer look. Goal vs Gosport Goal vs Tiverton

21-year-old Reece Kendall at Matlock Town. His manager said about him: “I’ve had lads that’s played for England C but he’s head and shoulders above these. “He’s a massive, massive signing for us, he’s got the ability to push on to the next level and beyond. I believe that we can do that for him and in turn it’ll push us on as a club.” Continues to impress with 7 goals from a Left back/wing back position and 16 clean sheets as they sit top of their league.

18-year-old midfielder Christie Ward has scored 14 goals and double figures for assists this season in 1st team at Brockenhurst. Worth a closer look or trial. Better camera angle for his freekick. What a goal. Also scored his 15th goal of the season from midfield today.

Tobias Braney, 17-year-old winger/striker [/div]
10 goals in 4 games for Braney in U18s and making appearances in the first team.
[/quote] This kid looks looks a serious prospect. Recently selected for England Colleges squad. Now has 33 goals in 11 games (you read that right) for Bowers & Pitsea u18s and has gone on loan to Burnham Ramblers for first team experience where he has 10 goals in 5 games for them after a hat-trick today. Needs to be scouted.

I wonder what Jamie Cureton makes of his 20-year-old attacking midfielder/winger Samrai Gebrai at Enfield, how far he thinks he can go and whether or not he is worth a trial? Has always looked decent to me and a player with potential. [Edit] Back in 2019 Gebrai played and scored in an Under-23s game for Coventry City and received an invitation to trial from Premier League side Watford too. He is stronger physically and a better player now than he was then IMHO.

Stuff like this knobs me off. It used to be players would come through the league and if they were good enough end up in the PL. Now the fuckers are even hoovering up all of the talent in non league. Where are we meant to get our players from?

Where are we meant to get our players from? Nothing stopping us signing players like Tanner. I first mentioned him on here when he was in the Bromley academy. He was without a club last summer. The key is spotting them early and having a manager willing to give them a chance. Edit: Jayden Wareham (now Chelsea) and Ollie Tanner - gaschat.co.uk/post/621169

For every player that makes it, there are lots that don't. Unfortunately we are not in a position to sign them all up.

At the time I found it strange that Bromley let him go and secondly that nobody took a chance on him. His potential was obvious to me. Plenty more like him out there with the potential to play at a higher level.
