What's happened to pirate? Have missed your posts on here. Very informative. Had a lot going on recently so haven't had chance to post much, but still keeping an eye on the forum.

Joan Luque might be someone to look out for. Scored 14 for Heybridge Swifts this season and is set to play Exeter City in the FA cup this weekend. Exactly DC's type of player, young and determined to make it in the professional game. m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41680217

As DC is promising activity in the January transfer window, I feel like this thread might be relevant again. Anyone got any suggestions? Not sure how realistic, but wouldn't mind any of these: Corey Whitely, George Cooper, Jodi Jones, Ben Kennedy, Maximilian Zimmer, Jannik Löhden, Fabio Viteritti, Nick Brisevac, Israel Puerto, Dani Aquino, Patrick Schmidt, Marcel Platzek, Marc Brasnic, Nico Empen, Sigurdur Egill Lárusson, Luigi Falcone, Alessandro Mastalli, Andrea Mazzarani, Kevin Kabran, Rauno Sappinen.

Big question is who will replace Bodin in Jan?

In a recent interview dc said something like "we will need to move players out to bring some in" I noticed it because previously he talked of keeping some budget behind for january.

I reckon Dan Tricket-Smith is worth keeping an eye on. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder joined Evo-stik Northern League South side Leek Town in September after playing for Sacramento FC under Paul Buckle in the United Soccer League (USL). The former England U17 squad player came through the youth ranks at Crewe before joining Liverpool for 300k+. Since joining Leek he has scored 4 goals and created numerous assists and will be looking to demonstrate some of the talent and rediscover the form that made him such a highly-rated youngster and move back up the leagues. liverpoolfc.wikia.com/wiki/Daniel_Trickett-Smithwww.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpools-next-big-thing-evo-621581

Another player from the Northern League Premier Division that i reckon could play at a higher level is the 22-year-old former Derby County youngster Andy Dales. He has played for Mickleover Sports for the past few years, being named their Young Player of the Year in 2014 followed by the player of the year award in 2015 and was instrumental in helping them achieve promotion during the 14/15 season, also being named the Evo-stik Division One South Young Player of the Year. He can play on either wing or an attacking midfield role and is decent with both feet. So far during 17/18 he has scored 9 goals, created numerous assists and impressed again. Worth scouting and a look in a development squad game IMHO.

I reckon the Grantham striker Lee Shaw would be worth looking at in training or a development squad game. The 22-year-old got 28 goals last season and currently has 11 goals in 15 games in the Northern League Premier Division. Last season he won all three Grantham Player of the Season awards, the Supporters' award for the second consecutive season. Previously scored 54 goals in 109 starts in the United Counties League for Harrowby United. We trialled a 23-year-old from the Combined Counties League last season. I see the lad Shaw got a hat-trick today to take his tally to 21 goals in 26 games in all comps. He looks a good finisher with a decent all round game. As I said before, hes well worth looking at in training or a development squad game - he might be good enough or he might be out of his depth with our players, but It surely can't hurt to trial the lad to see what he can do at close quarters. Tricket-Smith also scored another goal today for Leek. If he carries on the form he is showing it won't be long before he moves back up the leagues.

Hi Pirate can you think of a few older heads who could add some leadership and strength to the team who might be affordable in January - you know the positions: central defender, defensive midfield and wide midfield/ winger?

Hi Pirate can you think of a few older heads who could add some leadership and strength to the team who might be affordable in January - you know the positions: central defender, defensive midfield and wide midfield/ winger? There aren't many I can think of off the top of my head in this country, but the winger Whitely at Dag&Red is still someone I'd like us to get. Wide midfielder/winger Jack Barmby isn't an "older head" as such, but impressed me in the past - he's out of contract on 31.12.2017. 6ft 2in, CB, Israel Puerto would be quality and would suit the game in this country, whether he would be affordable or want to move is another matter - he's out of contract in the summer. The same for 28-year-old, 6ft 7in, CB, Jannik Löhden. I would've gone in for Jay Spearing, but he's at Blackpool now. Allesandro Mastalli is a class act who can play as a defensive midfielder, whether he would be interested or affordable I'm not sure. It's hard to really say looking in from the outside without knowing who is potentially available or what sort of money we have to spend. Edit: Centre back Sam Hughes is only 20, but would be a good option on loan from Leicester if available. 30-year-old centre back Matthew Connolly isn't getting game time at Cardiff, perhaps he would be available in January? Kortney Hause is a quality CB not getting game time at Wolves, I wonder if he would also be available for loan? Dorian Dervitte is another good CB not playing much, if he could be tempted on loan from Bolton it would be an excellent signing. Players currently without clubs: Niall McGinn, Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Chris Eagles, Nigel Reo-Coker, Chris Malonga, Jerome Thomas, Miles Addison, Kelvin Wilson, Joel Ekstrand.

The Shamrock Rovers 22-year-old midfielder Brandon Miele is worth a closer look. The Ireland U19/U21 cap has impressed in the League of Ireland scoring 25 goals in 79 appearances and was named the 2015 PFAI Young Player of the Year. The former Newcastle United youth can play on the left, right or through the centre. Contract ends on 31.12.2017. Other League of Ireland players worth considering are 21-year-old Jamie McGrath and 25-year-old Patrick McEleney, former youth internationals. Both players contracts also expire on 31.12.2017.

Yes that's true but I'm not sure signing 3 or 4 youngsters on loan or being released is going to turn this round unless we strike very lucky. I guess the family might still up the budget but that depends on how much they value League 1 football. It's not going to be easy, that foe sure.

This lad has been impressing at Dulwich Hamlet this season scoring 9 goals in 9 games, including a hat-trick at the weekend. With his ability It surely wont be long before he gets an opportunity at a league club.
