This below in quotation was what I posted about Southend United defender Kacper Lopata back in the January window thread. Lopata is now free to leave the club following the National League’s decision to allow Lopata to cancel his contract at Roots Hall due to a ‘serious breach’ which saw the defender having to wait an extra 28 days for his January wages. What an opportunity to sign a very talented defender with big potential for nothing and someone who knows our area very well indeed. Barnsley apparently. Signed for Woking on short term deal. Maybe a pick-up for us in the summer?

17-year-old Brody Peart is a talented youngster that has been catching the eye in youths and first team at Basingstoke Town, plus during loan spells in first team at Tadley Calleva in the Combined Counties League. Could be one to make the step up in the future. 8 goals so far this season now in first-team for the 17-year-old Peart after scoring last night (see below) and forcing a penalty after his run and shot was handled, to help Basingstoke Town into the North Hants Cup Final. Also scored a hat-trick in a league game on 18th March to add to his tally. Worth a trial ASAP as someone from a higher level will snap him up sooner rather than later.

It's unfortunate we don't have an U21 setup to develop promising players from further afield. There are many promising youngsters playing in non-league for example that have football league potential that we could scout and then develop to turn into sellable assets, something we were quite successful at many moons ago.
The number of players that have stepped up recently are eye opening. You only have to look at someone like Anis Mehmeti who in the space of 3 years went from the 9th tier to Wycombe's development squad, into the first team, to then being sold on to our neighbours for a record fee for Wycombe. A lad I mentioned on here, Christie Ward, was eventually signed by Wycombe from a 9th tier club and recently made his Football League debut. Even EFL Championship Young Player of the Season Alex Scott started out as a 16-year-old in non-league before City snapped him up.
In the last 10 seasons: 👉🏻Over 150 transfers direct to the Prem & Champ from non-league 👉🏻Over a million minutes have been played in the Prem & Champ by former Non-league players 👉🏻Over 1700 Prem & Champ goals by former Non-league players
Below are examples of some players under the age of 21 that have impressed at various levels that IMHO would be worth trialling for the club to see what they could offer and see how they match up to what we already have in the building at a similar age: Harry Williams (Alvechurch), Billy Mardell-Smith (Hertford Town), Josh Stokes (AFC Sudbury), Jordan Thomas (North Leigh), Beck-Ray Enoru (Barwell), Richard Asamoah (Waltham Abbey), Abdoul Gnaou (Rushall Olympic), Brody Peart (Basingstoke Town), Felix Miles (Stratford Town/Cinderford Town [on loan]), Zack Willett (Horndean), Ben Gelder (Hemsworth Miners Welfare), Sol Baugh (Sevenoaks Town), Sam Reed (Brighouse Town), Luke Hall (Worksop), Ethon Archer (Raynes Park Vale), Jokubas Mazionis (Enfield Borough), Conor Darwish (Fisher), Errol Mundle-Smith (Croydon), Junior Moses (Cockfosters).

Richard Kone still banging them in. 38 goals (and countless assists) this season and 100 goals over the past 3 seasons. Undoubted higher level potential and the ceiling for him is very high. I said it before, but some people that work in the game at that level believe he is even better than Dwight Gayle who also played Essex Senior League. Just 19-year-old, about 6ft 3in, quick, powerful, good in the air, holds it up well and scores off both feet. Just sad he is still being prevented from playing higher, although if I was an EFL club I would get lawyers to look into the situation and challenge it because he's that good and worth pursuing.

The 20-year-old 6ft 4in centre back Harry Williams at Alvechurch is a lad worth monitoring. Previously with West Brom and Burnley, he has also represented England at youth level. Worth a trial this lad.

With us having to potentially look for a couple of GKs this summer, I thought I'd take a look at some potentially realistic(ish!) options available and even included a couple of 'left field' choices. Any here that catch your eye or a realistic name not mentioned? Taye Ashby-Hammond, 24-year-old, 6ft 3in, Fulham (out-of-contract). Has kept 13 clean sheets from 29 appearances during a loan at Stevenage during 22/23 and helped them into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup and previous to that during an impressive loan at Boreham Wood in 21/22 he kept 16 clean sheets from 30 appearances and was a big part in Boreham Wood's impressive run to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup. Lawrence Vigouroux, 29-year-old, 6ft 4in, Leyton Orient (out-of-contract). Kept a club record seasonal best 24 clean sheets during 22/23 as Leyton Orient won the League Two title. In total he has 59 clean sheets in 152 games conceding just 153 goals in his time at Leyton Orient. Named the Leyton Orient Player Of The Season for the 3rd year in a row. Excellent agility, reflexes, shot stopping and his distribution is outstanding. With Orient's promotion it makes the signing more unlikely, but would be a top target if there is a chance of getting him. Connor Ripley, 30-year-old, 6ft 3in, Morecambe (out-of-contract). Despite the struggles of Morecambe as a team, Ripley has had a good season individually and the club would have been relegated a lot sooner if it wasn't for him. A solid League One GK, he keeps a clean sheet on average 1 in every 4 games. Luke Southwood, 25-year-old, 6ft, Reading (out-of-contract). He kept an impressive 18 clean sheets during an impressive early loan spell at Bath City and then Southwood won multiple man of the match awards with Eastleigh helping guide the National League side into the play-offs. So far this season he has kept an impressive 16 clean sheets (club record at this level) in all competitions for Cheltenham Town. Capped by England at U19 and U20 level and now switched allegations to Northern Ireland where he has made one appearance for the senior side. Jamal Blackman, 29-year-old, 6ft 6in, Exeter City (out-of-contract). A solid keeper at League One level with a total record of 13 clean sheets in 47 games at this level. George Wickens, 21-year-old, 6ft 5in, Fulham (out-of-contract). During an impressive 21/22 he kept 12 clean sheets in 40 appearances for Wealdstone and was subsequently awarded the Players' Player of the Season and the Junior Stones Player of the Season. Capped by England at U16 and U18 level. www.instagram.com/tv/CeENuTluFRS/Nathan Bishop, 23-year-old, 6ft 1in, Manchester United (out-of-contract). Kept 16 clean sheets during a loan spell at Mansfield Town in 21/22 as he helped them into the League Two Playoff Final. Harrison Male, 22-year-old, 6ft 2in, Worthing. During 21/22 he made 52 appearances keeping 22 clean sheets as Worthing were crowned champions of the Isthmian Premier League. This season he has made 46 appearances keeping 14 clean sheets as Worthing finished 4th reaching the National League South playoffs and he also made three penalty saves in a shoot out to help the club reach a second successive Sussex Senior Cup final. Capped by England at U15, 16 & 17 level and made an appearance this season for England C side. Harry Tyrer, 21-year-old, 6ft 4in, Chester (on loan from Everton). In an outstanding loan spell at the club he has made 46 appearances this season in the league keeping 18 clean sheets to help Chester finish 3rd in the National League North and qualify for the playoffs. Collin Andeng-Ndi, 19-year-old, Southend Utd. Probably the best young goalkeeper prospect in the National League, Andeng-Ndi has kept an impressive 13 clean sheets in 22 games this season. Grant Smith, 29-year-old, 6ft 1in, Yeovil Town (out-of-contract). Despite Yeovil's disappointing season, Smith emerged with credit with 12 clean sheets and is one of the most consistent players in the National League with 69 clean sheets and only 209 goals conceded in 195 games. Worth considering as a back up option. Matteo Rizzo, 18-year-old, 6ft 3in, Pro Vercelli. A bit of a left field option, but Rizzo has impressed in the Italian 3rd tier with 16 clean sheets in 45 appearances and looks an excellent prospect.

I'd love Vigouroux here TAGas, but would he come here after Orient's promotion? The most unlikely option on the list, but maybe a possibility if some reason he wants a new challenge and we could convince him with our plans for next season, and of course...money talks! Offer him an attractive contract and who knows!? 💰🤑

I think it's possible as many thought the same about Gibbons from Port Vale.
I think it would come down to 3 outcomes
Belshaw, if Barton still see's him as no.1
The defence in front of him
Money/Contract

Some good suggestions. The fact is in less than three weeks time we have two pre season friendlies on the same day and nowhere near enough players to field two teams at the same time. There has to be a lot of work done in the next two weeks - an almost unbelievable amount of work to be done in fact!!! No positive news from the club on any front including the stadium tbh is disappointing. I'm sure we won't be signing pkayers in a rush to have two different teams just to fulfil our pre season friendlies. We can use trialists for those games don't forget. As for Lindsay, I don't think we will be splashing out this sort of money on a CB whilst 1) we are awaiting an anseer on Sweeney 2) we need to spend money elsewhere as a priority., EDIT I accidentally replied to a post from last June. I am sure i read that Barton said that he wants to get business done quickly this year, don’t think it was very long ago that i read that and on here

Re pirates GK post (won’t quote) I’d love LV from Orient but probably unlikely after promotion so for me Blackman, the Fulham keeper or the morecombe one I think.

At the age of 22 Jack Sparkes is only likely to get better with the right guidance and worth some consideration for us this summer. I know a few Exeter fans, they seem to think he will be a good signing for L2 sides but has been shown up in L1 with lack of pace and positional awareness. Obviously the latter can improve with a good level of coaching but will he get that here?

Do we look at players out of contract in the league above?
Would someone like Bradley Dack be a good signing if he could prove fitness? Looks like he is fit again, but can't get off the bench
