A few more non-league gems worth monitoring below National League Luther Williams, 19-year-old, 6ft 2in, Centre Back, Leatherhead. Signed for Chelsea at the age of 12 and was at Stamford Bridge until 16. On leaving Chelsea, he was immediately snapped up by Sheffield United, where he completed his scholarship and went on to sign a professional contact at Bramall Lane. Since joining Leatherhead he has made 8 appearances and helped side keep 7 clean sheets in that time. Harrison Day, 18-year-old, Forward, Concord Rangers. During the 22/23 season he scored 51 goals for the Concord Rangers U18 side to help them win a league and cup double and also gained valuable experience in mens football at Catholic United where he scored 13 goals and created 14 assists in 16 starts (15 sub apps). So far during the 23/24 season Day has 5 goals from 7 starts (6 sub apps) in all competitions at first team level for Concord Rangers. Seth Chambers, 19-year-old, Forward Needham Market. Prolific in the youth and development sides at Needham Market, he now has 70+ appearances at first-team level and this season has 12 goals in all competitions and 4 goals in 2 development squad games. Roco Rees, 22-year-old 6ft 2in Goalkeeper, Worthing. Started his career with Portsmouth, before spending 8 years on the books of Brighton between 2013-2021 and then spent 2 years as part of the Brentford B setup. Good agility and shot stopping ability, comfortable with ball at his feet with good distribution. Had a horrorshow performance against Dartford recently, but bounced back well with a clean sheet the next game and has kept 8 clean sheets in 18 games in the National League South. Nathan Kabeya, 18-year-old, 5ft 10in, Right Back/Wing Back, Lye Town. Has caught the eye helping Lye Town to the top of the Northern Premier League Div One Midlands, with 7 clean sheets in his 13 appearances and only 8 goals conceded. Previously on the books of Wolves and Lincoln, he was also involved with England at U15/U16 level.
Matt Feeney-Hill, 17-year-old, Midfielder, Sutton Common Rovers. After scoring 5 goals in 5 games in the Sutton Common Rovers U18s, Feeney-Hill duel-registered with Forest Row FC for first-team experience in the Southern Combination Football League where he went on to score 12 goals in 9 games and won back-to-back club Player of The Month awards for August and September. Returning to Sutton Common Rovers he has subsequently made 7 starts and 2 sub appearances scoring 1 goal. Harrison Mead, 17-year-old, Midfielder, Chalfont St Peter/Tring U18. A first team player at Chalfont St Peter and has also impressed captaining Tring U18s in the FA Youth Cup during 23/24 helping them to a historic second round tie at Leyton Orient, with the Jersey Evening Post reporting Mead was "imperious, marauding around Hemel’s pristine artificial surface as if it were his own" after a win vs Jersey Bulls in one of previous rounds. Mead has made first team appearances for Tring too, see this quote from the Tring official website: "at the age of 16 he is probably one of the youngest (if not the youngest) to have scored for the Tring First Team in the South Midlands Premier Division." Previously he was at Kings Langley U18s where he won the League and Cup double (and made Kings Langley senior team debut at 15-years-old). Finlay Dorrell, 17-year-old, Forward, Romford 1sts/Barking U18. Has impressed over the past year or so scoring 12 goals from 17 starts for Romford at first team level and 22 goals in 26 starts for Barking at youth team level, helping Barking amazingly reach the FA Youth Cup 3rd round for the first time in the club's history where they were unfortunately beaten by Millwall after extra time. Previously with Bowers & Pitsea youth setup where he scored 36 goals in 37 games. Henry Hart, 17-year-old, Right Back/Wing Back, Romford 1sts/Barking U18. Has impressed over the past year or so representing Romford as a regular at first team level, Essex U18 at County level and for Barking at youth level who he impressed whilst helping them to an historic 3rd round FA Youth Cup tie against Millwall in which they unfortunately lost in extra time. Selected for the last trial of the England schoolboys U18’s representing the South of England against the North in the final elimination match before the Centenary Shield squad is announced.
Khemani Aiyanyo, 17-year-old, Forward, Erith & Belvedere. Scored 15 goals in 17 starts for Erith Town U23s and made an appearance on the 21st September 2022 aged 16-year-old for Erith Town becoming their youngest ever first-team player. Previously scored 17 goals in 16 games for Erith Town U16 and 29 goals in 19 games for Erith Town U18 sides. Impressed with Erith & Belvedere U18s during 23/24 with 13 goals in 7 games, including goals to propel the club into the 2nd round of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in the club's history. Made 4 sub appearances for Erith & Belvedere first team scoring 1 goal.

I wonder if Taylor is more likely to sign some of these gems or are they all still destined to join the likes of Posh & Oxford and then be sold for a few £m in a couple of years time? I had a quick look back at his signings during his time at Exeter and doesn't seem to have really dipped into the non-league market much, so it will ultimately depend on the type of scouting network we put in place and whether or not we want to reintroduce the development squad and take it seriously this time with proper investment. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/matt-taylor/spielertransfers/trainer/60832/plus/0/galerie/0?station_id=189716

I watched the Portsmouth game. Saw a few of their games this season and the Man City loanee Alexander Robertson has stood out every time.
It seems most teams best players are borrowed these days..

Wonder what Matt s view of JCH is? Has been frozen out by Posh, and they want rid in the first week of the window.
Sam Nombe might be available from Rotherham if their new manager doesn't fancy him.
Nombe is younger so might prefer him.

Not out-of-contract like Neil Farrugia (Shamrock Rovers), left footed CB Nanjo Pijnaker (Sligo Rovers) and Adam Murphy (St Pats), but Murphy's 23-year-old teammate Joe Redmond also had a good season.

We will have to wait and see I suppose. Apart from the manager, I wonder who we have in the background working towards the January window? Hopefully not just significantly reverting back to relying on agents as we have done in the past. Is Jennings still here or not, I wonder? It's crucial we get someone in the background in a DoF and recruitment role with a bit of nous, looking out for the long-term best interests of the football club and making sure everything is running as smoothly and efficiently as possible, with succession plans in place for every scenario. Doesn't feel like with had that for a while.

Watching Wimbledon
The young lad up top for them, El-Hamadi i think, looks a real handful.
Strong, runs with the ball well, quick. Exactly the sort of player we should be looking at in january
Our play really would benefit from some pace through the middle, with Collins, Thomas, Vale buzzing around up top
At present with Marquis and Martin we look very one dimensional.

Jaiden Bartolo a 17-year-old Centre Forward in Wealdstone youth and development sides has been catching the eye with 20 goals in 8 games. A Gibraltar youth international who became the youngest debutant and goalscorer for the Gibraltan side Manchester 62 before moving to Wealdstone last summer. Be interesting to see how he continues to develop.

UTG They already turned Peterborough down for him which I imagine would have been the best part of a million, if not more. Will have others bigger than Rovers after him as well now. Great pickup for Wimbledon from Wycombe, thats the time to sign them

It is rare for me to highlight players in lower non-league above their teenage years, but occasionally their are exceptions to the rule like Shermandin Artmeladze. Even rarer then to find another few players worth a closer look, namely 25-year-old Adama Sidibeh at Warrington Rylands, 24-year-old James Bailey at Kendal Town, 23-year-old Trae Cook-Appiah at Walton & Hersham and 21-year-old Jack Thorne at Bridgwater United. All forwards, Sidibeh is a pacey and powerful CF, Bailey is a CF excellent in the air, Thorne a forward with good movement and looks a finisher, with Cook-Appiah a winger or striker with pace, trickery and eye for goal. It is obviously a huge step up, but can't hurt to have a closer look, monitor them or even offer a trial. Alfie May - was 23-year-old playing in Isthmian League Division One South for Hythe Town Colby Bishop - was 22-year-old and in the National League North Jamie Reid - was 24-year-old and playing in the National League South Paddy Lane - was the 21/22 EFL League One Young Player of the Year, is now a Northern Ireland international and just a few years ago was playing for Hyde United in Northern Premier League Premier Division. gaschat.co.uk/post/635134
