Following on from the non-league gems worth monitoring below National League, I wonder if we are watching the progress of 17-year-old midfielder Jack Nunn at Mangotsfield United? He's been impressing in youths (20 goals in 33 appearances) and first-team, with SGS College side and is a current England Colleges player. I also see Bristol City recently had a couple of youngsters (Theo Jeremy and Jake Wilson) on trial from Western League side Keynsham Town, who have a link up with SGS College.

If any reported higher level interest in Aodhan Doherty at Linfield doesn't materialise into anything permanent he would be one to seriously consider. Only 17-year-old, but making appearances and having an impact at first-team level. Lovely left foot, balance and technique, Doherty looks a really exciting prospect.

Max Dean is impressing at MK Dons and was previously well schooled at Everton and Leeds. Looks a good prospect. Attachment Deleted

Another 17-year-old to catch the eye worth monitoring in Northern Ireland is Ciaran O'Hara at Coleraine with 2 goals in 3 starts (1 sub app).

Fletcher Holman a 19-year-old forward at Eastbourne Borough has caught the eye and worth scouting if we have any scouts left. Can play LW/RW/CF and has scored 5 goals in 8 starts (5 sub apps) in National League South and also helped himself to 5 goals in one game in the Sussex Senior Cup, with records showing only two previous Eastbourne Borough players in history have scored 5 in a single game. Last season he scored 25 goals in 17 games for their U18s in the National League U19 Alliance and went out on loan to Eastbourne Town for first team experience where he scored 18 goals in 26 starts and was named the club Young Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year. Represented Sussex U18 side in the Boys National Final of the U18 County Cup during 22/23.

J'Neil Bennett and Jez Davies released by Tottenham worth a trial. What happened to Richard Kone? You seemed excited about him and from memory he was a striker? 😢

It is rare for me to highlight players in lower non-league above their teenage years, but occasionally their are exceptions to the rule like Shermandin Artmeladze. Even rarer then to find another few players worth a closer look, namely 25-year-old Adama Sidibeh at Warrington Rylands,

My God. We’re sound asleep as a football club arent we ? We appear to have no scouting structure whatsoever. Maybe this is dictated by the fact that we have no academy leagues into which we can feed young prospects so we dont pursue them, preferring instead to sign older players who dont fit at other clubs.

Hopefully the club will one day be in a position to take advantage of the recent transfer rule changes and look to source players from overseas. A big wide world out there of players waiting to be discovered.
Jordi Escobar, 21-year-old, 6ft 2in, Centre Forward, SD Logroñés. A strong and powerful player with decent aerial ability, two decent feet and someone who looks suited to the English game with his physical and technical attributes. A product of the Barcelona and Valencia youth systems, he was highly-rated and prolific as a youngster, scoring 27 goals In his first season with Valencia before backing it up with a further 19 goals in the following campaign. Appeared for Spain at U16, U17 (debut as a 15-year-old) and U18 level. Made a £2mil+ move to Almeria a few years ago, but is now playing his football at 3rd tier club Logroñés (22/23 average attendance 1,189). Contract expires June 30th 2024.
Jaume Jardí, 21-year-old, 5ft 9in, Winger, Gimnàstic. Highly-rated as a youngster, the left footed winger was on the books of BOTH Barcelona and Real Madrid as a youngster and represented Spain at U16, U17 and U18 level. He trained with the first team and was captain of Barcelona U19 side where during one season he scored 21 goals in the youth league and followed that up the following season with 15 goals and 5 assists. Currently at Spanish 3rd tier club Gimnàstic (average attendance during 22/23 season 3,118). Contract expires June 30th 2026.

Wes provides lists and lists, we just choose people like Junior Brown to fill spots. Pension Pot signings, moving closer to Barnstaple and Newport, both long term injuries, it wasn’t far off fraud in some cases. If the Police got involved, got hold of WhatsApp messages, I’m convinced we did some deals based on back handers and doing agents favours. The Trev Clarke one, signed him broken, not a 1 year deal, we gave him 2 years?, his second contract with us?! First game of the season, started again, and then after the game Barton publicly said he could never trust him again, I do question how 2 years was allowed letting alone signing him. Our wish list this summer will be a whole new squad, biggest overhaul in our history, likes of Marquis and many more shouldn’t be given new deals. Our biggest wish list is a chief scout and a scouting department.

I'll be honest, I expected announcements and improvements in the scouting and recruitment departments long before now, but the silence is deafening.

Our biggest wish list is a chief scout and a scouting department. I have stopped posting so much because you can’t make people see what they don’t want to. The state of some areas at the club after Project Barton is a disgrace. No scouting network at all and all working on agent recommendations. Jennings, Spendlove and Andrew Taylor all with their fingers in the pie. We have signed some good players under their stewardship but there was no long term plan. I don’t even blame them as for them it was all about getting Barton the next big job that they’d follow to. The ownership model at the club allowed this all to happen and be built around one man and his mates. We had scouts that Barton said he never met, that is a lie as there were videos and photos of them at the training ground when he first came in. The truth is he didn’t want them around as they were Tommy’s boys, I kind of understand this but the club shouldn’t have ever allowed him to reshape the whole scouting/recruitment department to his like, especially when the average shelf life of a league one manager is 18 months. I hope we are now in a position that we can implement some long term strategies which will benefit the club beyond Taylor and whoever comes after him.

Manning walked into Oxford in March and they had in place a scouting network already, look at them this season after a near relegation. It’s essential we bring in a head of football to establish a scouting network ASAP! But I am told they are having to make cut backs because of the mess they inherited, it’s hard to blame them but you can’t ignore the basics of a good football department behind the management team. Let’s back the new owners, I’m sure Taylor is saying we need a better infrastructure, it will take us a while to get over Jennings. I bet we were the only club in the country with an ex agent appointed DOF. Oxford’s www.oufc.co.uk/news/2023/march/ed-waldron-head-of-recruitment/I spoke to Faz as well about Robinson, again I will get told I’m name dropping. I know Derek would happily speak to us if we needed some help setting up our own department.

What seems concerning though, is each manager wants his own people to head/lead it and that only serves to bring upheaval when the next poor sod takes the manager's job. The new owners said they wanted "club people" in the background. How's that going?

Is it not not likely, that are taking their time to appoint the right people?? The coach we just appointed, was who Taylor wanted and want a cheap option. He was looking to go into management himself and already turned down being Johnson's number two at Fleetwood.
