What can we expect to happen? We have been promised an improvement to the toilets and a general lick of paint to brighten things up next season - almost enough to convince me to renew my season ticket. "Someone like him to take us over" Peter Hargreaves would be a good bet - worth twice as much as SL. (Tongue very much in cheek) Agree with you "fair play to BCFC" - does this sort of progression on the other side make our owners uncomfortable - surely it is now dawning on them just what they are up against in this great City of ours - Clearly they are good at what they know and do best - they have tried to diversify - have come up short, are now floundering and are totally out of their depth. So far, its only 2 years. it has taken our friends south of the river 10 years and multi £m to get where they are Hargreaves was a Computer Salesman - now worth early $3 billion - if you had got your act together ........... we wouldn't be in this fine mess. 😂 Edit: Stanley!!

It's probably better to say that the Sheeds did well and deserved it on the night, otherwise we'll have to hear about it all year! Christmas is cancelled. UTG

Does anyone really care what the teds do, I don't I can't even get jealous over how they are doing now We just need to concentrate and get our own house in order That was the point to my thread. City have their house in order and they are reaping the rewards. As did Brighton, Swansea et al before them. Tonight should have put the fire in the belly of our owners to say, fair play to them, but we need a bit of that as well, and get on the phone first thing tomorrow morning and get things in motion. Did you not hear Hamer on 20man? Apparently we're not in competition with them!

Last night night was a night about Bristol City and they did great. Not about us, not about our board, not about selling Bodin.
Fair play and congratulations.

Sadly that's true they are now in a different world to us, what we need to try and ensure is our owners don't try and position ourselves as Bristol's Port Vale.

Yes and hope so doesn’t really matter if they do get stuffed think of the money they have made, top teams have got more important things to go for so I don’t think they will get stuffed Like the not so special one said last night....most of our players didn’t want to come to the office tonight but for Bristol it was their big day, this cup competition isn’t important if you are fighting for the premiership title, champions league etc so Man City game could be very close

Doesn't exactly help when people feel the need to proactively post out their successes on the Rovers section of the forum. There's a real paranoia amoungst some obsessed supporters that our future is linked to theirs, which is total nonsense. I think it is, as things stand. We have absolutely nothing to look forward to as Rovers fans currently. Well, a regeneration stand by stand that is so far off completion it is unlikely to happen. Under these circumstances we will lose fans to them hand over fist. Prolonged success for City could be the final nail in our coffin. If we still had a stadium deal on the table I would agree with you wholeheartedly as we would have every opportunity to play in the same league as them consistently in the long run (the next ten years), but we have nothing. I can sort of see where your trying to come from on your points, but I don't 100% agree with them all. If you asked most Rovers fans that attend regularly why they support Rovers, I bet 90% will say either they used to watch them as a kid with there old man or a family member?or they where brought up in he Rovers catchment area? I'm not saying if the sh*t go up they will attract a few glory hunters, but that's not football supporters in my opinion. And that's what separates us from them.... we have a set of die hard fans who stick with this club through good or bad times, and we've had our fair share of the bad! This club has such a close tight net fan base, that stick together.. I've made so many friends over the years from following the gas...I just don't think you get that south of the river. I agree with you we need to upgrade our facility's in order as a club to move forward, and attract some more of our fans who don't go as regular. But as far as competeing with them lot I'm not a bit concerned. UTG

I actually woke up depressed this morning after watching City deservedly beat a very weak ManUre. [via Sky]
And most of the thoughts printed above this post - I echo.
Evolution my ass - if we carry on the way we are, it will be more like a crematorium - as we pick over the ashes.
I have never had faith in the new owners [and took much flack for it] they got lucky and rode on the back of Clarke's good fortune, but when it came down to actually deliver, my worse thoughts seem to have been confirmed.

Matty Taylor setup there winner, you couldn't make it up, Surely not, what skilfully carved apart the mighty Man Utd to knock them out of the cup? Someone in this parish was banging on for years about him being completely useless and not fit to play for the Conference league Bristol Rovers, The League 2 Bristol Rovers or the League 1 Bristol Rovers. I must have got my wires crossed and been thinking about a different player?

So I will mention it. City vs Man U. I watched it. And I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It was a cracker. All great goals and City absolutely deserved it. Joe Bryan is an absolutely fantastic full back and his goal was world class. Congrats to them. Have to say LJ has got them playing and they have great momentum carrying them forward. But the stadium is one of the key components in driving them forward. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing but it offers everything needed to push that club forward, and full up like it was tonight with a big team, that will only draw more Bristolians to them. You cannot underestimate what a new stadium would absolutely do for us and we need one within 3 years minimum or I don’t think we will ever come out of the shadow of City. We will become the Notts County of Bristol, always looking over the other side of town at their ground and accomplishments. I really hope our owners were watching at the gate tonight to see what we need, why we need it so badly and why we need it quickly. We will miss out a whole generation of football fans. They talk about evolution, but sometimes you also need to look at and focus on the present. Presently, City have a real shout of the prem and if they achieve that, I don’t think we will ever have the same share of the spoils again. Presently we have a ramshackle of a ground with no prospects of even building one and stagnating in L1. A real reality check. The key componant driving them forward is a billionaire owner throwing money at them for fun.
They are lottery winners, that's all.

With respect, I completely disagree with your comment about Oxford and Plymouth. The majority of our supporters and City's supporters are, surprise surprise, from the Bristol area. Not Oxford or Plymouth. And while that remains the case, if City's success and resources far outstrip ours, football fans from the Bristol area will be more inclined to watch City instead of us, which will reduce our ability to become a competitive force in future years. I do agree however that they're light years ahead, but that's my point. We are a club with great potential right now, but I don't want that potential to weaken, which in my opinion it will when City move further and further ahead of us. My opinion of course. Exactly. Agree with every word apart from the first two. Pompous posters deserve zero respect. So a forum posters who hold strong opinions deserve zero respect? Wow.

I can’t argue with that, spot on. Waste enough money and eventually you will get it right, still a bunch of lady gardens though!

Last night night was a night about Bristol City and they did great. Not about us, not about our board, not about selling Bodin. Fair play and congratulations. Quite right. I wasn't trying to make it about us off the back of them. But the point of the thread was that take a look at the other side of the river, not to look on in envy or jealousy, but to look at it and see a well developed stadium full of Bristolian football supporters playing against a top prem team and a team that are riding high in the league with the absolute chance of getting prem football themselves. Then look at our own facilities and look how far behind we are and what we are potentially losing out on support and the attraction of players by not having a facility not just to match but even to compete with. We all want championship football but we have no chance of sustaining it if we ever did get there. I watch a fair bit of championship football on sky and every team has a very good level of stadia far above ours. Even the Scottish first and bottom of the SPL teams have great stadia when you look at the attendances they get. Lansdown has wasted a fair amount of money City getting it right, that cannot be disputed, but he is getting it right now and when you look at the momentum that is being generated, the new fans it is attracting plus all the add ons commercially = success on and off the field. And if they reach the prem then its fair to say that with the extra revenue they will get plus any parachute payments should they come straight back down it will pay off the last 15+ years anyway. I love BRFC and I've loved the Mem down the years. I still get the same buzz going there as I did when I went to Twerton for the first time, but I must say, I would love to see a much better ground now. Imagine a 20k+ stadium full of blue and white in the championship!! You can't all tell me you would not take that. Our owners need that buzz and passion to drive us forward and recognise how quickly we need a better stadium facility to move forward.

Thats your blue tint talking. There must be 40 or so lottery winners in the first 2 divisions then. There are too many other clubs with the same model for it to be luck.
