I would say the same about Gillingham - care to hazard a guess about why they were so keen to buy them (a club with less opportunity for new stadiums and revenue streams than us)? WAQ clearly loves football and thought/thinks he has the skills and contacts to help a club progress - whether he succeeds or fails we'll find out in the longer term. My point is that I don't think WAQ is in it to show off, swan around with a fancy title or some delusions of prestige from association with the world renowned Bristol Rovers. Some may think his involvement is a vanity project, I would completely disagree. He's heavily involved with FIFA and following their recent fall from grace he could have made a bigger name for himself in football concentrating on a career within that. Those aren't mutually exclusive concepts. I can see a mixture of all of them being his motivation. I do think there is an element of vanity project though. In the wake of the collapse of the stadium deal his assertion that he is in it for the long haul sounded like a man who is clinging on to Rovers for dear life. What more can he do for the club to justify seeing himself as the best man to make this club a success? Hamer practically admitted that Wael has very little authority. Hamer said he was meeting with Hani to talk finance, not Hani and Wael.

I don't have any concern about his motivation and believe that he has genuinely grown to love the club but I agree Hani is the key to any future developments and unless he loosens the purse strings and becomes less risk averse we're stuck where we are - which is probably where we've been for much of our existence.

That's the 5th or 6th time that you've elongated this pointless thread, in order to tell us that it is irrelevant. From the replies I would guess that enough people felt that it was a relevant place to comment at the time, and no doubt they mods will tidy the place up in the morning, when the tantrums have finished. "Pointless Thread" .. "Pointless Thread" ... "Pointless Thread" .... you're beginning to sound like Sean O'Driscoll. I haven't elongated the thread 5 or 6 times calling it pointless TT, I was replying to the person who did though, who seems to like your post! Apologies Feeling The Blues, I was supposed to be replying to @falsenumbernine Never a good idea for me to post late at night - as you were, gentlemen.

Nothing wrong with the forum. If users don't like certain posts they can say so respectfully or dislike the post or ignore it. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing, it's when certain self righteous posters start to label other posters as board haters or Rose tinters or try to belittle others with the I know more than you attitude or how long have you supported the club, you've a new poster must be a s'ted nonsense, perennial WUMs etc. I've supported the club for over 50 years I am no better or worse than anyone who has just become a supporter or member of the forum - I have more memories nothing else. It doesn't matter if you go to every game or go to none. Just stop putting posters down if their view is different & be humble enough to agree to disagree. Merry Christmas & best wishes for 2018 to you all - & OUR football club. Great post; says it all UTG

I think the attitude towards our Board and their slow, slow approach to, well, everything, depends on your mindset and how you view your local clubs.
Smalller clubs with much bigger rivals, like Port Vale and Notts County survive. There is no point in continually looking at their richer neighbours because it's pointless, unrealistic, and demoralising. These clubs need to build from within, and not aim beyond their means. Who cares what Stoke and Forest are up to? Let them spend their millions and end up back in the Championship yet again.
A lot of other people think we should be as big a club as City and feel that ambition should not be beyond us. We used to be as big as them and one day we could be again. In fact if we don't show that ambition then we will slowly lose sight of them lot and enter a long term decline and perhaps fall.
This is going to cost millions and we don't know where that will come from, but that's no reason to give up hoping for ambitious owners and substantial investment.
Pompey fans are absolutely obsessed with Southampton and will never give up the chase, even though they have been in the shadow of the Saints for decades - apart from the spell several years ago when they managed to reach the Prem and Southampton were down here with us.
That didn't last long of course, and millions of pounds later, spent by both clubs, Pompey have nothing to show for all the dosh they've wasted. But they still target Southampton.
Pointless? Probably.
Realistic? Not for decades.
Time to give up and accept that Portsmouth are not going to catch Southampton? Never.
I tend to take the Pompey view of life, rather than the Port Vale.

"In fact if we don't show that ambition then we will slowly lose sight of them lot and enter a long term decline and perhaps fall. " Aren't we doing that already? Pretty much. I find it hard to evaluate - the Al Qadi's 'saved' Rovers but what is the point in continuing to exist if you will always have a ceiling and a pretty uninspiring ceiling amongst the likes of Walsall, Gillingham and Southend. If we had the crowds of Accrington then I would be pretty happy with that, yet we have 9,000 odd crowds and take 40,000 to Wembley. The potential is there to be a Championship club yet we have no chance of realising it as long as the Al Qadis are here yet they aren't going anywhere. It frustrates me no end. The other poster was right, Lansdown just needs to let us go on as we are and we will be our own downfall. Our fans seem to have mostly given up and are happy just to have a club. I just can't be happy with a club that could be so much more being run into the ground to the point where even our manager sounds fed up of the state of the place.

Reading some of the posts over social media saying well done from our fans made me feel a little sick but it actually shows how classy our supporters are. It's similar to when some of their fans were praising the job DC had done in getting us back to back promotions. Each to their own, but I find it all uncomfortable reading from either side! Now shave me

So I will mention it. City vs Man U. I watched it. And I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It was a cracker. All great goals and City absolutely deserved it. Joe Bryan is an absolutely fantastic full back and his goal was world class. Congrats to them. Have to say LJ has got them playing and they have great momentum carrying them forward. But the stadium is one of the key components in driving them forward. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing but it offers everything needed to push that club forward, and full up like it was tonight with a big team, that will only draw more Bristolians to them. You cannot underestimate what a new stadium would absolutely do for us and we need one within 3 years minimum or I don’t think we will ever come out of the shadow of City. We will become the Notts County of Bristol, always looking over the other side of town at their ground and accomplishments. I really hope our owners were watching at the gate tonight to see what we need, why we need it so badly and why we need it quickly. We will miss out a whole generation of football fans. They talk about evolution, but sometimes you also need to look at and focus on the present. Presently, City have a real shout of the prem and if they achieve that, I don’t think we will ever have the same share of the spoils again. Presently we have a ramshackle of a ground with no prospects of even building one and stagnating in L1. A real reality check. The investment in the club in all areas by landsdown is the reason for their success Of course it is. But lets not forget that Lansdown took over full ownership of City in 2007. Its took them 10 years to build the stadium as it is now and the same amount of time since they've even remotely looked like getting out of The Championship, that Dean Windass goal at Wembley was at the end of the 2007/08 season, 10 years ago. They've been relegated back down to League One since too. The Al-Qadi's have been at the helm here for 18 months. I know it looks like it may have finally clicked in place for City, but I think a bit of perspective is needed here. As I've said before lets hope the Al-Qadis "Evolution" happens sooner rather than later, but They're a good 8-9 years behind Lansdown.

Hargreaves was a Computer Salesman - now worth early $3 billion - if you had got your act together ........... we wouldn't be in this fine mess. 😂 Edit: Stanley!! Getting close.... only have 5 bob to spare... (hope you are old enough to know what that is...) 5 bob!!!....... That was a small fortune in my day - 'Bob a Job' - Threepenny Bits & Farthings made up my pocket money and access to the Ration Book occasionally for some chocolate if I as lucky.😉

f**k them. When we hit rock bottom we stood strong and supported our club , they didn’t even fall as far as us and they turned their backs in 1982 and their club died. They hate the fact that our hardcore support is stronger than theirs and they know that whatever a mess our club is in we’ll always stick with it and not turn our backs. I want our owners to give us the facilities that we deserve but I don’t ever want to be like them. Like another poster said they used to get crowds of 28,000 in the 70s and 25,000 of those disappeared when the going got tough only a few years later. And don’t forget we beat the Busby babes 4-0 so we’ve still got the most impressive record match v Man UTD. UTG I tell you what mate , your posts are always so upbeat and positive , you're a bloody gem !!!! Always a real pleasure reading your posts utg !!!!!!!

Meanwhile the ALQ's haven't even got around to even applying for full pp at Almondsbury let alone starting work, nearly a year since they got provisional pp. Posters continually saying they'll get it right eventually are living in some kind of make believe world, as there's no evidence they'll spend the money now needed to bring Rovers up to top Div 1 standard and beyond.

It was this time last year that City played eight and lost eight in the league. The same fans who now hail Johnson as the Messiah, wanted him sacked (at best) and the fact that he had to move house suggests firing him wasn't good enough for some. So how bad were City during those eight games? They lost them all by a single goal, so probably not as bad as the stats suggest. Likewise, they're not as good as their recent from suggests. They've won seven of their last nine, but all by a single goal. Their victory at Sheff Utd (a league Two team a year ago) came after the Blades hit the woodwork four times, and had a player sent off. Last night against Utd, they tried hard but were lucky. No team is lucky for ever. And just like last season, when the luck evened itself out and they stayed up, it will again this season, and they're unlikely to be promoted.

Don't be fooled by randomness. City had a good result last night, and can rightly enjoy it. Suggesting that this result is the vision for the future is ludicrous. Last season we gave Chelsea a decent game at Stamford Bridge. Ten months on they were Premier League Champions, and we were 10th In League One. Enjoy your dreams, but the strong likelihood is that your team won't be promoted.

Ashton Vale was panned 7 years ago. It took them 7 years to go from the Ashton Vale plan to the rebuild of Ashton Gate. It took time. The Al-Qadi's have been here 18 months compared to Lansdowns decade. The people who are expecting the Al-Qadi's to pull off in 18 months what its took Lansdown 10 years to do, are also living in some sort of make believe world.
