Well, when Jenkins, your Butler, can no longer turn off the Gas Mantles and extinguish the candles on your Chandeliers, what are you going to do in the Mansion West Wing eh? and poor ole Rosie the maid cannot keep drawing those heavy drapes every time you blink can she eh? Fer chrissakes, Jenkins is 84 and Rosie is 79 ! Easily replaced. You're a cruel man. I am so glad my Sister rejected you now, despite her Heroin problem, and the prostitution, the HIV thing, seven kids, no front teeth and despite the fact she still had eight months of her prison sentence to complete, it is quite obvious that you were not good enough for her.

I have an Echo Dot Alexa. I have Amazon Unlimited music for Dot. It's only £4 a month. Hooked her up to a Bluetooth soundbar. Fantastic.
I have no other things yet but I know you can get a thermostat so you can control lights and heating and sockets and such with it.

Lights, heating, music, whatever. Quite funny when we're just about to leave the house and instead of Alexa turning the house lights off, she puts the radio on instead. It's just pointless.

If like me, you have a plethora of lamps in the house, Alexa is a really useful tool. The bulbs are a bit pricey, but well worth it. I went with the Philips Hue system. You first need a Starter Pack that comes with say three bulbs and a 'Bridge'. The 'Bridge' just hooks up to your Router and then you're in business. Mini Me MKII also uses Alexa to play word games. This may sound a bit silly, but in reality it is very useful. His first language is German, and he really only speaks English with me, so playing word games, in English, is really useful for him. We also have an Amazon Firestick on the TV, and this has Alexa speaking German. It's what we have to do in a multi-lingual house !

I am seriously thinking about getting Alexa now and reclaiming the 30 seconds a day of my life I spend turning lights on and off.

I've had the Echo plus for a few months now. For about a month or so, the lack of response was terrible. I often had to ask the same thing three times before it understood. I tested the internet connection, the location as well as resetting it a couple of times. Suddenly the last couple of weeks its been much better so maybe there was some sort of software update.
I mainly use it for the music. Cannot be bothered to use it as a shopping list or a calendar! I have a couple of the hue bulbs which is quite cool, especially to get the lights dimmed. If I needing heating in this part of the world I would probably use it for that too!

I'm pretty sure that Alexa learns accents and speach patterns and repsonds more accurately over time as she gets tuned in to you. I think it also makes a difference if multiple users interact with it.
