Off the pitch we have progressed with a big increase in our turnover and the exiting development squad but obviously the ground is still not fit for purpose. On the pitch we have far too many players that need replacing to be contenders despite the fact they are very good professionals. On the pitch therefore i believe we have regressed, the football and the team havnt been as good as last season imo. For real improvement on and off the pitch we need massive cash investment imo. Really? I would have thought we just needed a right winger and a striker, plus the usual additions to the squad to be a top 6 side. If either Nichols or Gaffney had managed 15 goals we'd probably be in the top 6 places this season. Investment wise on & off the pitch are linked as if we ever get a new ground that will generate income for the playing budget.

Sorry if this is boring for some but progress will be better judged when the last ball has been kicked. Rovers will need 13 pts from last 6 to improve on last season's tally - which would give them 67 pts. Surely progress isn't just about pts/league position? Last summer DC had a massive clear out, this summer we'll probably only lose a handful of 1st teamers.

Genuine question - would you renew - Leadbitter, J Clarke, Brown, Lines, Gaffney, Moore, Burn? There may be 1/2 others. I think there are arguments for and against renewing any of these. And then we have the three loanees - it could be the biggest 'clear out' in a long time.

All about opinions i suppose, you obviously think the defence and central midfield players already at the club are promotion players and i dont.

I like to measure progress on the increasing number of tents we have at the ground. Full steam ahead!!

Decent thread. Team wise, we probably won't improve on last season's position/ points tally. We are still not able to really get good results from the top 6 teams. So you could ague therefore there has been no progress, but you could also argue that we have blooded a few players this season - Broadbent/Menayese/Russe & that bodes well for the future. Also lost 'our best' player again. Next season will be DC's third in this division, so in effect we will have a reletivley experienced manager at this level. Some don't like his tactics or formations, we don't have the best players but when you look at the bile that was served up in the 6 years or so prior to him taking over, I think that is progress of sorts. We probably have consolidated rather than progressed, which isn't a bad thing. Off the field, we are further away from a new stadium than we were 12 months ago & the downgraded plans & revised timescales for the Colony (should that now be renamed?) would tell me no progress has been made. Not sure what the plans are close season with, apparently new turnstiles, moving family enclosure to the south stand, lick of paint for the bogs, not sure this would be classed as progress, I would say more like maintenance. Can't wait for next season I think we will see real progress on the field. Off the field I am quite apathetic now, what will be will be.

DC has done a fantastic job this season, with the players at his disposal, and keeping BRFC generally in mid table is brilliant. Not sure you can compare last season with this as the teams are different and our expectations have been kicked into the long grass. I my expectations are really low, Waq & Hani are not going to put much money into the club, so next season for me will be predicated on DC staying, hopefully he does, and finishing mid table again next season with less than average squad of players, I will settle for that. If Leads can prove his fitness then I'd offer him a contract, I've no issues with Brown or Lines, JC is a good squad player, Gaffney I'd release, Burn's virtually gone anyway, Moore is a possible retain depending on whether or not there's better out there for the money. Sweeney will go, Telford will possibly stay, as could Bola if DC's like what he's seen.

Utg I don't think for one second that DC will settle for that. I also think that if we, the fans, and the club, settle for that then it will only lead downwards. Once you take away the hope, the expectation, the desire to improve, then there really isn't anything left is there.

Some very good replies in this thread.
Also worth noting that the Mem pitch was much better last season than it has been this - which could have made the difference for us in a few home games.

Yeah, I'm with you on that, but I think we have made slight progress in terms of experience gained. i would like to see a couple of signings with experience at this level, in particular a big striker to take pressure off of Ellis & give more forward options & a defensive midfielder. My expectation would be for real challenge for a top 6 place ( in a Rotherham type position at this point of the season ) I think that probably fits where we have been during my 50 years + as a supporter, so needless to say if we don't live up to my expectations, I am adaptable enough to lower my expectations, as long as somebody doesn't tell me to

It will be interesting to see how season ticket sales go[if they tell us]. Also if the owners make any attempt to boost sales with an encouraging announcement. As things stand i dont think we will sell as many season tickets as we did before this season began.
