I was going to resurrect the previous Syria thread but after reading it first I chose to start again.
This could get very serious. The U.S., Russia, ourselves, France, Iran Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey plus others all involved one way or another.
Trump promising 'something' and will find it difficult to back down. John Bolton is his new Security Adviser and I remember him from his UN days.
Not sure this will be a token cruise missile attack this time either. Hope wise heads prevail.
Personally I think we had our chance in 2013 before Parliament vetoed Cameron and Obama decided not to go alone. Assad is now well in charge whereas before he was vulnerable and with support from Russia and Iran this could escalate quite quickly.

Stuart, do you honestly think that if we`d got rid of Assad back in 2013, that things would be better in Syria now? Personally, I think they`d be worse. Possibly far worse. Does recent history not teach us this?

I think Syria (to quote a certain Mr Trump) is a shithole. This is not a good guy/bad guy scenario. They're all murderous barstewards, on all sides. Best stay out of it.

Does recent history not teach us this? Get rid of? No I don't but he was on the back foot and could have been brought on board. There is no need now as he has a number of powerful backers and is winning.

We got the US and the UK flying out of Turkish airbases bombing ISIS and Assad troops, while supporting the Kurds. While from those very same airbases we have Turkish planes flying and bombing the Kurds, who are supported by the US and the UK! How fecked up is that? Let them all bomb the sh1t out of each other instead, and when there is a winner we can bomb the sh1t out of them. In the meantime, just watch and wait.

and another thing.......In Europe, we currently have hoard's of young, fighting age, male Syrians flooding in. They tend to leave their Mothers/Wives/Kids in Syria. If they cannot even be bothered to fight for their own country or family (on whatever side) then why the hell should we?

I think everyone on here agrees, we should leave well alone.

All that'll happen is a few tomahawks will get fired from The Med, everyone says what a bad man he is, we all slap each others backs, job well done. Sound familiar?

In my view we had Al-Assad in a weak isilated position in 2013, few outside influences with Iran, Russia and the Gulf states, fewer refugees and some influence over the opposition parties such as the Free Syria Army. IS still had not taken root in the ungovernable areas. We threw that away and I really don't know how this is going to play out. A few token TLAMs or Storm Shadow missiles won't do anything significant on their own.

The bloke may be a complete twat but there's not a chance he'll do anything.

If they cannot even be bothered to fight for their own country or family (on whatever side) then why the hell should we? I said way back when the same thing ,was surprised how many didn't notice well dressed and groomed males (on their phones) of military age walking across to eastern europe claiming to be asylum seekers ,just seemed odd as lets face it if you were under attack as long as you could load and fire a weapon wouldn't you have stayed and fought for your country . Even worst was how many governments fell for it. Not sure about donald ,we have seen this with that kim bloke but nothing was done, mainly posturing from both sides , wonder what would have happened if Clinton got in ,possibly all out war by now. your second point nobbs was assad one of our puppets like sadam who toed the wests line you said every side using turkish bases ,he who has the biggest wallet wins , at the heart of it will be businesses selling to both sides through front companies for a quick profit it's the one thing that can be relied on in any conflict ,recent times , argies using exocet missiles against us ,even french specialists helping to modify the missiles and perfect the technology in argentina at the time, so much for allies. For us these modern conflicts are unwinnable as we are to namby pamby these days ,you can't fight and expect to win against sides who will fight tooth and nail and think nothing of reeking mass destruction an anyone , the only way we could possibly bring change would be to fight in the same way as they are and become barbaric or even allowed to kill enemy combatants without the threat of going to jail when people come back

Thousands of young girls raped and abused in our cities, and nothing is done by the government. 40 people allegedly killed by an unproven Chemical Weapons attack, in a country far away, and we're getting ready for WW3. I think a lot of people at the top have got their priorities wrong.
