Don't know what DC is up to, Didn't praise Telford for his goal today , accept criticise him for not doing more in and around the box, but I've never heard him give nothing but praise Nichols this season, is this deflection tactics, so no other Clubs snap up Telford from under the nose of DC? I never understand what or why he does things any other manager would have kept a sub up his sleeve and substituted Brown in about the 85 minute so he gets exclusive applause , it's not like we had anything to play for using all the subs earlier Picking Nichols means you are always going to have to make a substitution at some point. It's like being down to 10 men from the start with him.

He was limping for 5 mins before Broom came on. Still let's not let the facts get in the way of any excuse to bash the manager.

Typical end of season game really and one lacking in quality. It was worth going just for the send off for Browner and Nick Day though, which I thought was excellent. Good luck to them both.
Roll on the summer and I'm looking forward to seeing who we target and recruit in the window. We have the makings of a decent side, but an extra injection of quality is needed.
Onwards and upwards...

I thought we passed the ball reasonably well, particularly in the first half, but Gillingham sat deeper than Wigan and made it harder for us to get in behind them.
Lines was the stand out player, dictating play and seldom wasting a pass. Aside from that it was a typical end of season affair from two sides with little to play for. But surely not so bad a spectacle that would make you want to leave early!
I may be alone on this one but I thought Tom Nichols did ok in the first half. Both he and Ellis faded after the break and the injection of Gaffney and Telford, who both did very well, helped our play.

Weak defending for their goal. I hope we see more of Broadbent next season, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have been so easily done as our defence were for the goal today.

I can't see what if any difference Tony Craig has made at all to the defence.
Still seems a weird signing to me.

He was shocking, he doesn't even play/look like a footballer. He looked totally lost, I think playing him is worse than 10 men.

It's really interesting how he polarises opinion.
Personally, I think he has brought leadership and that 'know how' that was missing previously. He rarely makes mistakes, is calm and marshalls the defence well. I've not seen a defender at this level defend so well without touching the ball, herding strikers away from the ball frequently.
My suspicion is that some don't rate him because he is seen as blocking Tom Broadbent's progress. I really rate Broadbent and think he will be a huge asset but he is still raw. Craig's experience puts him in front of Tom for now.
It's all about opinions I guess.

I do accept however that he must be judged on goals and he's clearly not delivered. New season, new start, but he has to deliver next season.

It was a dire game today, down the right hand side of the team james clarke, lockyer, moore were all comically poor with the ball. Nichols who had a good 45 mins v wigan but was feeble and gutless today.
I thought lines, sercombe and bennett were trying hard to get us going and some of bennetts little dummies and twists and turn were delightful to watch.
If j clarke, moore and gaffney are offered new deals i will be amazed. And although ive defended him in the past we need to transfer list nichols and except any offer to take him off the wage bill imo.

J Clarke is useful as a back up as he can play anywhere across the back 4, we'd be struggling now w/o him in the squad. The interesting one will be Leads as he told fans he would be fit for the Charlton game but hasn't even made the bench recently, is that so we can released fit next week?

If it was a simple choice between Nichols and Telford it would be a no brainer. Nichols lack of goals is disgraceful.

I know james clarke is a totally honest pro trying best but hes league 2 at best for me and cant fit in with the managers vision of full backs that bomb forward. With leadbitter i love his athleticism and i think dc likes him as well so its just how much his injury problems affect his chances of a new contract imo.

Thought we got away with one today. Gaffney was defo offside when Telford shot hit him and Dom headed home our goal.

Craig's attempt at a tackle cost us two points today and one win in our last 10 games, with hardly any clean sheets, doesn't support the view he's brought much leadership to the team.

I think there are a number of reasons for the downturn in results as we approach the end of the season, injuries and a run of games against top 6 sides being contributory factors. I've not looked up the stats but wpuld suggest that our failure to put the ball in the net enough has been a bigger issue than keeping it out over those 10 games. Tom Lockyer has also looked more at home with Craig alongside. That may be coincidence, or just a good player returning to form, but could equally be the influence of an experienced head alongside. Much like when Tom played alongside Mark McChrystal, a period that brought out the best of him.

As far as stats go, up until Craig came in, we had played 29 games and let in 45 goals at a rate of 1.55 per game.
With Craig we have played 16 games and let in 21 goals at a rate of 1.4 per game.

Craig has made too many mistakes to be worth considering next season.
I suppose it all depends if you want to just survive, or have a crack at promotion next season. If we see the same old faces then I guess that will prove we have no ambition
