It's really interesting how he polarises opinion. Personally, I think he has brought leadership and that 'know how' that was missing previously. He rarely makes mistakes, is calm and marshalls the defence well. I've not seen a defender at this level defend so well without touching the ball, herding strikers away from the ball frequently. My suspicion is that some don't rate him because he is seen as blocking Tom Broadbent's progress. I really rate Broadbent and think he will be a huge asset but he is still raw. Craig's experience puts him in front of Tom for now. It's all about opinions I guess. Good points in there. I think the issue has so many factors involved, including, as you say, the lack of game time for Tom B, and the lack of physically the pairing offers (it helps a little if parts is in the team as well). And the whole thing of taking an older player on a contract. The bigger picture is that this is Lge 1 & sadly you'll rarely get the complete player. Would be great to have Craig's nouce, with Tom B's physicality & ball carrying, and Tom L's all round play / fitness. One thing no-one can have failed to notice recently is that every team at the Mem have 2 huge centre backs (dunkley & burn / zakuani & ehmer)

Thought we got away with one today. Gaffney was defo offside when Telford shot hit him and Dom headed home our goal. I don’t think he was. There was a defender on the floor from trying to block the cross

There was a defender on the floor from trying to block the cross Doesn't there still have to be two players behind the attacker, usually a defender plus the goalie but somehow Gaffney had got behind the goalie so was offside as there was only one opposition player behind him?

I don't think the goalie counts for offside. It doesn't matter what players but there must be two, most of the time one is the keeper.

I don't think the goalie counts for offside. It doesn't matter what players but there must be two, most of the time one is the keeper. I had to watch it back again and pause it just as Telford shot. Gaffney is on side as the player on the floor and the keeper (just) are goal side. The rule is two defending players must be goal side which 99% of the time is the keeper + “the last man”. It doesn’t have to be the keeper though.

I get a sneaky feeling that Nichols will be converted into an attacking midfielder / in the hole type player. Takes the physicality out of the equation & means he can face towards goal rather than have his back to it. He played there on Saturday, positions were good but touch was dreadful
