It's all a matter of opinions. IMO this forum has become , especially when people are bored out of season, a lot antagonistic, rude, sexist and insensitive. try reading the thread The pitch is wrong. to see what I mean. I take it it was a tongue in cheek windup that has resulted into some vile exchanges. How many threads can anyone recall that were genuine serious comments that didn't end up becoming a farce (IMO).
Regarding the Training ground. I have seen rovers train on Eastville Park, Weston Sands, Brislington, Hambrook and latterly at Cribbs. I don't recall ever seeing more than perhaps 30 people watching. IMO why are so many people expressing such strong opinions on the matter when IMO it has little direct impact on them.
Regarding Telford. There have been comments about how good he is especially compared to another certain player. (No comment) but out of those who has actually seen him play. He played at Wycombe but not many saw that game because of the boycott. He's played quite a few games for the development squad but I have never seen more than 30 people watching him there. Why do some people who I suspect have never seen him play express strong views on whether he is better than another player? IMO DC has seen him and elected not to pick him over another player. IS DC WRONG? Does DC not know what he is doing? Regarding the Bars. I wonder how many people expressing strong comments actually use the bars? I never did but do now. If any of you have stood in wind blown concrete concourses at other grounds I'd take the Mem any time. Glass and not plastic to drink from as well. One little grip, Tom's comment regarding pulling pints before opening to quell the opening rush never happened. IMO I wonder how long this thread will take to get someone to start taking the shhhh you know what.

Regarding the training ground, the interest is down to the fact that if it does go ahead then it will be a positive sign the ALQ's are both here for the long term and also are prepared to invest substantial sums of their own money at the club, plus it will start to bring our infrastructure up to date, the one DC suggested was 30 years behind the times and was holding us back from progressing. Regarding Telford he's just a potential transfer target to discuss this summer and at least discussing him takes posters away from the politics at the club! Regarding the bars that's become a major topic as we're no news on a new ground and so it's being as a sign by some this is the start of the Mem regeneration. If you want serious debate I'm not sure a football forum is the place for you as it's always going to be about posters own personal opinions.

I have said many times that I really do not understand the obsession by so many on the subject of the training ground at The Colony. It surely is only of real interest to management and players. You suggest it is of interest to others for so many reasons but I would suggest the ALQs have answered all your points in a positive way with their expenditure in other ways not least relaying the pitch twice in 12 months at a total cost of around £400000? and infrastructure is being updated since the takeover.

All I know it's that after supporting the Gas for 37 years, other than the Gerry Francis era (first time), this is as good as its ever been.

Personally I'm not too bothered now about The Colony - it will (maybe) be a place owned by a subsidiary of Dwane Sports where Bristol Rovers will train and pay for the privilege of doing so. What it does show however is a tangible commitment by the owners in actually spending a couple of million pound or so of their own money which will not show as a debt against Bristol Rovers but in effect will be in support of Bristol Rovers. WRT the pitch - the first laying, was I believe at DC's behest and was a two season 'stop gap' measure whilst UWE was going to be built - there was no way last season's pitch could be used again - it had to be be relayed whatever the cost. Most of the upgrades around the stadium either had to be done or will ultimately be self funding.

At the end of the day if it's not a cost issue what is holding them back from submitting the plans/getting on with the work what else can it be? Plus DC claims we need a better training ground to progress. Although I've no idea why the word "obsession" keeps getting raised as the training ground is far from that, rather it's just another point of interest.

Personally, I don't have an obsession with the Colony, I would prefer a new ground first, but in my opinion, if it's announced that we are going to house all squads at a state of the art training complex, and visits to clubs like Fleetwood have been organised, then to have it announced we are only going ahead now with a scaled back version and as yet no PP has been has been applied, despite the board apparently stating it will happen in 8-9 weeks back in March, then I fully understand why some are questioning why it hasn't happened, and why the change since the UWE collapse, as items for debate on this forum. This is a place kindly put together & administered by some, to give us all a place for debate & to voice our opinions. i have said before, the owners should be given credit for doing what they are doing in regards to infrastructure on both playing & non playing areas but this shouldn't stop those who have differing opinions stating so on here & engage in debate. As the original poster suggests it's all about opinions, we should always respect others views, and if we can't then we should try ignoring them, if we can't be civil in response. But that's the nature of social media, we are all top notch league managers, we know how to run a football club.

With regards to the Colony my understanding is that preparation work for the pitches there begins in 5/6 weeks

I think too many people get hung up on individual issues and then extrapolate from that their view of what the state of the club is, as if one issue is indicative of the overall health of the club. Sometimes you just want them to take a step or two back and take a broader view, but some folk seem to like being blinkered and only focussed on one thing I suppose.
