The original deal was peppercorn rent and its only ever been guess work that the deal was in any way unreasonable. I may be sceptical but i just think they either couldn’t or wouldn’t raise the money

Once that was dead, it required other investment and that needs to generate a return for someone. Its all guesswork yes, but if i recall correctly even T.Watola was trying to sell/lease the unused space in the North side of UWE stadium to UWE to help fund it

I may be totally wrong here but I thought I read a long time ago that the land was originally given to the UWE by HP. This was given to them under the proviso that the land cannot be sold on.

Well somebody is backing Wael to the tune of £2m each season, I can't see that's his own personal money he's spending each year so his family must be backing him to some degree. Ambitious in the context of a new ground or meaningful mem redevelopment I was told wael is not selling up so if it's true i guess he's got to be involved?

A friend who is a lecturer at UWE told me several weeks ago that he was in a high-level meeting. I suppose it was held on the top floor.
Anyway, he told me the Finance Director said in the meeting that the stadium land is now considered to be their insurance against financial need. I am sure that had the UWE suddenly hit hard times we would have heard about it. Even something as inept as the Evil wouldn't have missed that.
Nothing to see here; move along please.
Paulrandallstash has been had over I'm afraid.

Isn't it time that we stopped allowing our disappointment of not getting the UWE create conspiracy theories that probably don't have any basis in reality?

I cannot see that any University will ever be short of funds, lets face it they all own huge areas of land and buildings. "A businessman wanting to "swap" land. I think that this is feasible. I lived in Brentford when they announced that they were going to build a new ground. Part of the deal was that they were going to sell Griffin Park to finance it, and the council had given permission for the developers to build 367 "homes". (Now councils love this idea, lots of new people paying council tax). I suspect most people on here have been to Griffin Park at some point, I lived in the next street, and the Mem site is probably 0ne and a half times larger. Brentford were owned by a builder in the early 80's and sold land for housing at both ends of the ground. The home end once had a 13000 terrace, the away end contained a car park, so that why it is a small area today. But if you think houses / blocks of flats the Mem is a considerable space compared to Griffin Park.
This is NOT a dig at the club, or it's staff, or Brentford whom I admire for getting in to the Championship, and staying there.

I'm 99.999999% certain it will happen and have said so for the last 12 months. My reference to conspiracy theories was referring to the myth that the reason the UWE didn't happen was that the owners don't have or decided not to spend the money. I don't understand why we can't just accept that the UWE didn't happen because it wasn't right for the club. No guesswork there, it's been communicated by the club. Whether the UWE will be resurrected is anyone's guess. Personally I doubt it, but hope I'm wrong if the deal is right for the club.

I think it’s possible that stadium is still an option. But do we need another thread on this?
The idea that the UWE see the land as insurance seems completely counter-intuitive:
- there supposedly covenants against this. - there aren’t many “buyers” surely as insurance- you’d prefer a more liquid asset? - holding back “development” surely contradicts the purpose of universities that are supposedly an innovation centre.

In little supply on this forum. Don't talk to me about patience. Ive been waiting since before we left Eastville for a new stadium! Gasheads 50 yrs old and above are the epitome, the living embodiment of infinite patience! If you actually KNOW anything, spell it out in black and white. We'd all love to know.
