If this is the thread I started about the UWE stadium then consider this. I was sitting in a railway carriage with Steve Hamer, Wael and Hani Al Quadi. In the presence and hearing of the Al Quadi brothers, Hamer told me the stadium would be confirmed within a couple of weeks. We all know how that turned out. So, if the Chairman of the football club, with the complicit agreement of the football clubs owners can't be believed, why, oh why would you be prepared to hang on every word of individuals who have no connection to the club, or any access to information apart from eavesdropping conversations whilst skulking around the corridors of power? The only time I will believe anything regarding a new stadium will be when it is officially announced, with a guarantee of finance, building dates, etc etc. Until then it is pure guesswork, rumour and innuendo.

Really? I'm 99.999999% certain it will happen and have said so for the last 12 months. My reference to conspiracy theories was referring to the myth that the reason the UWE didn't happen was that the owners don't have or decided not to spend the money. I don't understand why we can't just accept that the UWE didn't happen because it wasn't right for the club. No guesswork there, it's been communicated by the club. Whether the UWE will be resurrected is anyone's guess. Personally I doubt it, but hope I'm wrong if the deal is right for the club. That is not the reason given by the club, even if that was true. They pulled out because UWE did not get back to them in a certain timeframe.

"The UWE Stadium deal fell through because we didn't feel it was right for the club, that's the only reason," If you're going to continue to argue that UWE isn't dead, at least get your facts right.

Just another slight take on that point however, is that I believe at the time the club came out with some contradictory statements. Steve Hamer suggested that the deal died once UWE had failed to respond within a deadline the Rovers board set. It sounded odd at the time, and with time it seems even more odd!

It’s probably the longest we’ve had without any public communication at this football club in years. It either means things are going on behind the scenes that can’t be discussed or the owners have become as frustrated at going’s on as we all are.

You are correct:- BRFC StatementMy only defence is that at the time the statement was made, I was critically ill in hospital and had no access to any media news. SH gave me his view on why it was abandoned, AFTER this statement. I am now 90% fully fit and looking forward to the start of the building work on UWE. Yes, OldGas I also have been waiting 60+ years for a new stadium. As another contributor has been saying "keep the faith".

I think they have a life and don’t feel the need to coment when nothing is going on. Unlike many on here. It’s the summer holiday. Uwe is dead. We have signed a few players which is dealt with at managed level. The men is having a few things done ready for the new season. There you go , nothing else to report.
I managed that without a news conference.

Having had that conversation, you can’t really argue with that response. It makes me think though, that UWE really was close to being a done deal. I doubt that we’ll ever know what actually happened to scupper it.

The uwe stadium land has been aquired by a wealthy businessman who will swap it for the mem and the stadium is back on ,this will be announced in the next few weeks, this news has come from within the club. I was told this today but will believe it when it happens !! Sometimes there is a grain of truth in a rumour like this. Perhaps the leasehold rights to develop the land at the UWE have been acquired by someone and perhaps this person has the resources to include a stadium within their plans and is able to meet all the criteria set by UWE ? Perhaps the Mem will be sold to the same person allowing the Dwane Sports loan to be repaid and we will start afresh, with no debt, as tenants at the new stadium ?

He has a history of telling us things that later turn out to be cobblers.
