I think whichever player or players we sign as a striker will leave some underwhelmed as we simply are not in the market for a proven league one goalscorer imo. What dc will be trying to do is sign someone who has ability and could become a 15 goal plus goal scorer for us. Gavin reilly does fit that bill looking at his career record. Does fit tbe bill? 5 league goals in 50 games for 15/16 and 16/17 seasons.

22 goals for last season seems ok but only 3 goals since Christmas. Seems to score in fits and starts and looks like he may link up with old manager at Sunderland. Hope this thread doesn’t reach 11 pages only for him to sign for another of our League 1 rivals like Taylor! It’s thursday tomorrow, don’t we often sign players on Thursday? 😉 UTG!

Looking at his form in the second half of the season, it appears Danny Mullen was preferred over him as a starter and he only managed 2 goals in his last 17 games. According to their fans on Twitter, he had injury problems 2nd half of the season. So don't think it was due to a lack of form.

We wont be signing bradley dack or brett pitman and like most league one clubs i dont think we will sign any european players so whoever we sign forum users especially will put that player down or be underwhelmed.

I take it you have watched games in Scotland? In recent years players have left the Scottish Premiership and said our League One is of a higher standard. The standard of the Scottish Championship is lower than League One, so 11 goals in 35 appearances is hardly impressive. The rest of his goals (apart from one) came in cup competitions against lower division, non-league and U20 sides. His record for Queen of the South wasn't even that good for me. It included 12 goals from 30 appearances in the 3rd tier. Compare his stats to Lyle Taylor's (i never expected us to get him btw) who scored 24 goals from 34 appearances in the Scottish Championship and it makes Reilly's 38 in 137 games look very poor indeed. Like all players I will support him and wish him well, but that doesn't mean he is immune from being critiqued.

We've done Scottish players. It was not a success. Quite right, we should definitely stick to Welsh ones, they're much better!

Point im trying to make is that dc will have to look for someone other than the obvious because we cant afford the obvious ie brett pitman. Someone like reilly comes into that category. Youve talked up league of ireland players but surely st mirren would win that league? Also i see no evidence that ourselves or other league one clubs will be signing bundesliga 3 players so we can rule that out probably. Ps i think oldham signed some lower league french players last season but thats an exception to the rule.

I hope this is only a rumour - can't believe we're signing another light weight player. I also can't believe that anyone from BRFC has ever watched this guy play - why would they?

I'm not sure about this one. He's seemed to of had a few decent seasons and a few less so good ones. A good couple of seasons with Queen of the South followed up by doing poorly at Hearts and Dunfermline. He's yet to consistently perform above the Scottish Championship, not the best standard of football, which is worrying and I must admit I was hoping for a target man with a bit of height.
That said it's got the potential to be a good transfer, he scored 20 in all competitions for St Mirren last season whose fans would of preferred to keep him and he was attracting the interest of Sunderland, He's only 24 too. We'll wait and see what comes of it.

Anyway if they were showing any interest in him I doubt we've any chance of signing him.

So you think we'd sign a player without ever bothering to actually watch him? In answer to your question - yep. His name would have been circulated after his contract offer was withdrawn by Stubbs this week. Seems to me he may well have been stalling and hankering on a move to Sunderland to be with his previous boss at St Mirren.

The big thing that worries me about DC's signings is that he rarely seems to look for physically strong, power players and our biggest problem is that compared to most sides we lack the physical strength at both ends of the pitch and pace both wide and up front. The only way you get into the top six in this division is to sign a bit of quality or have a good mix of power, pace and hard work. DC for me is too much the hard work aspect but this is probably because the type of player we need is outside of his wage brackets. In truth it is very difficult to change from what we are to a top six side without spending money to get a bit of quality. I just can't see at the present time that the owners can match DC's ambitions. May sound negative but I feel I am just being truthful and I will be absolutely shocked if we now sign players that are actually that wanted by the teams they are playing for. It is a big step up from national League to top 6 League One and very few come off. Mensah looked way off the mark and Sam Matthews could also be this but my main point is that we can't keep relying on this type of player. We were lucky in that our Conference players mainly grew up with us and had the chance to go Conference,League 2 and then League 1 which is far easier than going Conference (National) straight into League 1. Because of the numbers we need and the fact that we are now very weak in the areas we need players we do really need aome aces. Only time will tell and I very much hope I am totally wrong.
