It’s a bunch of trialists, under 18’s and a few U23’s who have never played with each other before against a tight knit group of experienced footballers. Conceding 6 is disappointing but I would expect us to lose. Eh? I was talking about the first team at FGR.

It wasn’t clear from your post.

They didn't concede 6 at Weston either, just today. I was talking about FGR who conceded 6 to Weston and my expectations for today. Anyway, results don't matter too much in pre-season and it's all about gelling and getting fitness levels to the required standard ready for when the proper action starts.

Any news on why Reilly wasn't in the squad today? DC said he was going to play players that didn't feature at Yeovil and Reilly wasn't in that squad either. I hope he's not injured already.

Trouble is that if we lose Ellis we will need two strikers yet we seem to be struggling to sign one! There must also be a chance that Lockyer will go in which case we will need a centre half as well. I would describe us as an ill prepared side pre season and I am sure the reason for that is the ridiculous line ups for the friendly games every season and lacking personnel at the moment.Of course on the opposite side there was Buckle where we were brilliant in the pre season friendlies but crap in the League!! If we want top six then we are well short on strikers and defenders who can achieve that. Assuming Harrison might be off is DC waiting to see what funds he's going to receive from the sale, so he can't then spend it on two quality stickers rather than rush and bring one average striker in now? Yeah the price of Panini stickers is shocking these days!

Thanks, I see what you mean. Anyway I paid the princely sum of £7 to park (I felt like I’d been mugged by a man in a hi-viz jacket).

So if Harrison goes which seems very likely now we will be left with a striker who rarely scores and a Scottish striker unproven at this level and to make matters worse we are off to Holland when the Manager is really going to need to be here and getting at least two strikers in. If the owners do have our interest at heart then they will give DC the money to go for two top strikers at this level or risk flirtation with relegation as we do not have many goals in the squad at the moment. IMO two good strikers and we could head for top six though to be honest DC does not have a great record with signing strikers.

Left back aswell, glaringly obvious so I’m sure these positions are being worked on.

I’m sure Widdrington and Hamer/Starnes can do the majority of it, DC just needs his phone so he can give his seal of approval. If Harrison does go, I’m sure there will be a plan in place to replace him. Your worry is very premature.

Premature? We are just two weeks from the first game and we have not yet replaced Gaffney let alone Harrison! We do not know if the owners will allow any money received to be used for replacements and our Manager has not got the greatest record for signing strikers. For me midfield is the only area we have actually improved the team and against FGR and Yeovil we haver hardly set the world alight. It worries me that DC says that friendlies are not important when surely our starts to the season have maybe indicated that our preparations leave a lot to be desired.

Steve, we have Tommy Widdrington now who hopefully has a list, see Eisa is going to the 82 ers. There is still a wealth of talent in non league, and we need to tap into it. Hate the last minute. Com transfers that mean we have less time, maybe he has Connor Chaplin lined up from Pompey, but we need a big unit also with Gaffers gone, interesting times.

Not sure his record with signing goalscorers is that bad actually. In fact, I'd say it's pretty good. Taylor, Bodin, Sercombe were all DC signings and they scored a fair few goals between them. To a lesser extent, Gaffney also, particularly as his goals kick started us in our first season back in the league. Appreciate that Bodin and Sercombe could never be called out an out strikers, but it really doesn't matter where the goals come from as long as someone is consistently able to get them. Mind you, if Ellis does go then we will desperately need someone to play up front and bring the likes of Sercombe, Bennett and Nichols (I remain hopeful) or Reilly into the game.

If Ellis goes it’s clearly a worry, but it’s not the first time a club have lost a good player towards the end of a transfer window. At least we have those couple of weeks to find the two strikers we undoubtedly will now need.

At least we have those couple of weeks to find the two strikers we undoubtedly will now need. Thought DC look a worried man in his interview today. After losing Gaffers a few weeks ago and rumours for several weeks about Ellis,we clearly have a big problem. Will be very surprised if we can bring in two in the next fortnight. I see Chaplin is still at Portsmouth and likely to stay there unless they can bring in a striker. Has their top target just signed for them across the river? Worrying times .
