We've played really well in both the last 2 games, and I fully expect us to win vs Southend on Saturday. Despite only having 3 points so far, I am strangely more optimistic than before the start of the season. The problem is that you have to pick up points when you are playing well and we are not. What happens if/ when we have a spell of poor form as all teams do throughout a season? We'll be ok. We're not going up or down again.

Does anyone else struggle to see what Ed Upson brings to the team? I thought he lost possession a lot and his passing was poor. I thought we looked a lot more direct for the 10 mins Lines was on the pitch.
I’d like to see Upson rested for Saturday with Sercombe alongside Clarke in the middle with Matthews replacing Sercombe on the left.
Although we lost last night there are definitely positives to take from the game - had a great spell in the second half where Portsmouth couldn’t string 2 passes together and we we’re causing them all sorts of problems.

Though I agree it was a red, I felt it wasn't entirely Lines' fault. It came about because we'd lost the ball at the back again, we were then on the back foot and a couple of frenetic tackles had to be thrown in. Lines' red card was entirely Lines fault regardless of the state of play That's a tad unfair. I had a great view and it seemed a harsh decision. Once again the reaction from their players probably was a key factor in the outcome.

By the time Lines 'dived in', the player was going the wrong way/trying to turn. all he had to do was get close. I still feel it was harsh as he didn't launch himself from distance - but I guess these days if both feet are off the ground then you are not in control and you give the ref the opportunity to show a red. If that is the case there player was clearly out of control when he launched him self two footed off the ground and took Bennett down knee high. Definitely a red! Agreed, there was more of a case for a red there I think.

Thought it was a good game of football and felt we should have got something from it. Certainly an improvement on the Accrington display but it we carry on conceding like we are and missing some relatively simple chances at the other end we may well find ourselves struggling this season I fear. I thought the Pompey centre backs were execellent and confirmed my feelings that Payne will be no where near as effective in the air as EH against good players. It was good to see Nicholls have a good game and the crowd responded accordingly when he was taken off. The fifth 2-1 score line this season which demonstrates the fine line between success and failure however well you play. Feel for DC, he looked and sounded totally despondent - not sure where he goes from here with such a limited playing budget.

Anyone noticed that we’ve only scored 1 goal from open play (which was against Accrington)?

It was a great game to watch and I very much enjoyed all but the result. I think all at Pompey , including the press, felt very relieved by the result and were impressed by the Gas. Lines sending off changed the game, but we had enough chances to win, and were it not for a couple of outstanding saves, we would have. Need a better keeper, the two we have simply did not do it last year and ain't going to this year. Would love Lumley back.

I probably did not express the depth of my feeling strongly enough, for clarity; I would take Joanna Lumley in preference to our main 2 keepers, yet alone Joe Lumley!

I’m rapidly losing patience at the minute, I’m usually as laid back as it gets with the gas but we still seem to have all the same deficiencies as last season, I was optimistic not so long ago , I am starting to worry a little bit. Keep the faith okebourne. With a little bit of luck tonight we could have repeated last season's result. It could be worse, we could be Oxford or Plymouth!!😉 UTG! Lol 😂 you’re right !

You're not alone regarding Upson, he just doesn't do enough. Rarely in their box, rarely in ours.

Cold light of day and all that mucker. Thing is we’ve lost Ellis and gained Payne Mathews , upson and Rodwell and they’re all decent players so although the league table ain’t showing it at the moment on paper we’re probsbly stronger than last season. Time will tell cos it ain’t played on paper it’s played on grass but I reckon we’ll be alright mid table again .

Also I’ve got a feeling that new kid from Watford is going to be really good. He had so much confidence and a kind of arrogance about him that you need as a striker last night. Reilly also looks good DC said we haven’t got a big squad the other night but I make it Ellis gafney and Brown out and Reilly Mathews upson rodwell the left back in . So surely bigger than last year ?
