Wrong first yellow was Coker for dissent Ah ok. Well on the plus side we’re only 5 points from the playoffs. Will agree that the ref was awful though, the standard in this country truly is laughable (hence the Prem considering appointing foreign refs as there simply aren’t any decent ones to promote from the football league). To couple our awful performance it just seemed like every 50/50 was given their way today. Payne very lucky not to be sent off the ref clearly took a disliking to him, everytime he made physical contact with a Southend player he couldn’t wait to blow up.

Just got home and I'm too down to write anything substantial, but what I will say that was a shocking performance and nobody came out of that with any credit. Totally inept.

It’s the owner we must have raised a million pounds over the summer and DC hasn’t been given even half of that to reinvest in the squad I say it again disingenuous it as many meanings just pick one it will apply

Is it just me that’s taking the poor performance out on the ref and fuming about how diabolical him and his assistant were? Oxley got two yellows right? Forget the *ing ref. The team`s performance was far worse than his.

Very poor today the most worrying thing for me is Southend were awful themselves. We desperately need a new keeper every cross that comes into the box seems to cause utter panic. We need a keeper who will boss the box come & catch crosses. Yes centre backs need to attack the ball better but to me they don't seem to have any confidence in Smith.

I don't see anything that Upson, Rodman and Payne have brought to the team. Gaffers was better than what Payne is, Upson is generally sideways and back and Rodman looks half interested. All three of these players were with teams that had a poor finish to last season, and they have brought that lack of confidence with them.

Utter , utter , garbage! Sorry lads but after that performance I can’t see anything but a battle down at the basement of the table.

Well that was #iss poor. After Tuesday I was really optimistic, but now it seems back to square one. 4 defeats in first 5 games so barring an amazing turnaround, we can forget about top 6. We need to get a commanding CH in asap. This was the worse display since the L2 relegation season for me & DC needs to nip it in the bud. There seemed a lack of fight today which Is inexcusable. I think DC will keep us up but I must question what he sees in Craig, he certainly ain't a leader, not that I could see & I would tell him he he can go on loan or pay his contract up. I would Blood Kelly in at LB & bring in Russe in midfield. I still think we need a big CF & goalie too. But hey it's only August can't wait for the winter months. Oh & I am probably the best supporter too UTG

What leadership did you see from him today then? He is just so poor. We have a poor keeper, a poor Center half (or left back today), a poor defensive midfielder and a poor striker. Our spine is just so weak.

Leadbitter is not match fit following his injury, hence why the manager is trying to use him sparingly. He was blowing towards the end of the game understandably! Certainly not a disgrace IMO, just a poor performance!

No leader on the pitch, we need a Campbell or Mansell type. Also need Sinclair’s attitude on the pitch to remind the other players we are playing football not musical statues!

Read the whole of my post old son. Yes I don't rate him, at his age & probably wages I don't see what he adds to the squad. Kelly would have at least put in a shift today.

Certainly not a disgrace IMO, just a poor performance! When smith had the ball he was in space on the right and not looking for the ball, said on here before the start of the season when he was dithering on his deal, let him go, his crossing is woeful just not good enough.

Before everyone goes into meltdown mode on today's woeful display, don't forget that we were without Lines, Sinclair, Lockyer, Matthews today, and also Sercombe for most of the game. That's a big percentage of our creative players absent.
We also had a shockingly bad referee, and a Southend team who were only here for a draw, and to break up our play. Their goal was a bonus for them.
I'm sorry if this has already been pointed out, but I don't have time to look back at whether it has already been mentioned.
Keep the faith
UTG!

2 CDMs. Upson and Clarke - one or the other. No creativity in the middle. Totally agree with this, you have to have at least one ball carrying midfielder. Away from home maybe, but not at home against an average team who you are trying to break down. This. And preferably Clarke on the showings so far.

Leadbetter Kept his back to Smith in the 2nd half with no interest in receiving the ball. Didn't help Rodman though I have to say he doesn't seem to be the player that always did so well against us and was last season. I liked Reilly when he came on and he at least showed some fire and I think should start v QPR on Tuesday. Without doubt that performance catapulted me back to the relegation season from L2 and shocked me.a
