Race, as defined by genetic inheritance, is by definition impossible to change. Does that answer your question? Oldie, replace the word Race for Sex. Would you say the same? I think you cant change your sex but you can change your gender? I think the 2 things are very different though since we can have mixed race offspring and there are endless combinations but sex is binary. You are either one or the other and you cannot chose. You can of course chose gender. If I have a English dad but a Philippine mother you could identify as one of 3 races. (Mixed race being the 3rd option) Then on top of "race" you can then also identify as being English for example depending on where you are born. A lot of the above is all so subjective and is one of my problems with singling out any groups be they black, white, gay, Christian, Muslim, African, German and deciding that one group is better than another. I do completely understand the fear of extreme fundamental Islam but there are a lot of peaceful Muslims just getting on with life. I also don't have time for left wing loonies, who want to control language and stifle debate with their self righteous offense at everything. Same goes for far right people who stir up hate fear and division. The moderate left and moderate right need to find a way to engage and debate in a sensible way and put an end to divisive political point scoring. Work on sorting out the things they agree on first FFS.

On Sunday we have the State elections in Bavaria. It'll be very interesting to see the results.
If politicians in Europe want to put a stop to 'populism' (whatever the hell that is supposed to be) the answer is really really simple. Stop imposing policies that are unpopular.

I read a very interesting set of stats on immigration Germany and the subsequent unrest over it. It appears that the greatest areas of expressed disquiet are areas of the old East Germany, where in fact the concentration of immigrants per 1000 population is 47, compared to 160+ in what was West Germany. But lo and behold the old East Germany has greater problem with economic attainment and standard of living. Result? Blame immigrants. Brexit anyone?

The Krauts can't do it. Their military is fecked big time ! Seriously? I always thought Germany was pretty much armed to the teeth? They've got real problems. Their standard rifle is not very good, and they don't have enough for every soldier. Their tanks (Leopard) which was considered to be one of the best in the world has suffered heavy losses in Iraq/Syria which has raised questions about it. Their new Frigates are five years behind schedule, billions over budget, and the first one delivered to the Navy was deemed to be unfit to sail. Their air force has only one operational plane per ten. If soldiers work more than their 37 hours per week, they get paid overtime (I kid you not). This has resulted in German troops being sent home early from NATO exercises because the German Government cannot afford to pay the overtime. Their defence policy is in tatters because they have relied on the US/UK for many years. It's one of the reasons why Trump has complained so loudly, and he is 100% right. Why should the US fund Germany's defence, when Germany hates him and the US? The anti-US agenda here is very strong.

Wow, you watch, and I frequently do, WW2 documentaries, the armour, the weapons, Germany had, no less than what 70 years ago? Tiger Tanks, Mg60? Machine guns, long range missiles, V1, V2, and you conclude, what with Germany's engineering and manufacturing might, they'd still be punching above their weight. Bit like us.

I thought they had something of an embargo on military spending after WW2??

Germany in WWII overengineered and were eventually out produced. Also they benefited from the mythology a bit, once you got past the initial frontline forces they had very little, much of the German army in 1940 was still horsedrawn. The BEF was in 1940 the only all mechanised force in Europe.

I thought they had something of an embargo on military spending after WW2?? Very similar to Japan in that they had restrictions. This ended in 1955 when NATO realised they needed more to deter the Warsaw Pact and Germany quickly rearmed. They had a large and capable army, then again without it, much of West Germany would have been turned into a nuclear wasteland during any war so there were definitely incentives.

Oldie with all your years of wisdom tell me is it possible for a person to change their race? Race, as defined by genetic inheritance, is by definition impossible to change. Does that answer your question? Thanks for clearing that up as you are aware from personal experience a person can convert to Islam but they do not change their race in the process as Islam nor its followers are a race.........So lets stop all this nonsense race card playing when it is crystal clear that criticism of Islam and its followers is not in any way racist. In a free society all religions should be scrutinised, challenged and open to criticism like it always has since the rise of Islam in Europe.

Agreed But then why do you, personally, pick out people from a certain race, to be so heavily criticised. I agree about religion. Never once have I witnessed you go after Christianity for all of the vile child abuse, most of which covered up, on a scale so huge it makes the cultural abuse by effing sick psychos from the sub continent look like a local issue. Why Jaggas, why?

Germany has spent a lot on defence in European terms, certainly comparable in monetary terms to ourselves and France. The issues Nobby pointed out are more incompetence and poor maintenance than cash.

Or maybe you realise you can use your new found wealth to create an empire you control and dominate with that wealth rather than try to dominate the continent with military force as you no longer have a military force. Why not just use the nazi blueprint for controlling Europe after the war was won by the nazis and call it a European Union......All you have to do is look after France because you raped the nation during your last failed attempt to control Europe and you will then have carte blanche to do as you please.........If you do a good enough job you can destroy the economies of Southern Europe and make them depend on a central bank you control for finance and being able to exist. When the timing is right you can open the floodgates to the scum of the earth and invite them in to rape and pillage their way through your continent and pay them for the privilege.Beware because a pesky country in the north that stood up to you in the past may stand up again and say NO MORE!!.....This pesky little country is capable of bringing down the entire Union you foisted on the citizens of Europe even though there is a minority in that country that think you are great and would love their pesky little country to be a province of Germany.

Jaggas is the biggest Europhile posting on here. Why else would he post such disjointed views, out of date rhetoric and misunderstanding of events if it wasn't to undermine the anti EU argument? And he is doing such a good job of it too.
