Nichols can’t score, but he’s miles ahead of Payne as a footballer, sorry but Payne is dog sh**, absolute waste of a player I don't rate him either but it's completely unnecessary to refer to him in those terms imo. Here’s here, far to complementary

We've got to stop playing Nichols - simple. I know people will come up with all sorts of defences, but we can't carry this guy in one of the striker slots. think we have a few others that we are "carrying".... Bennett would come top of that list for me Utter dogshite from him today

The pass assist to Liam was a beaut. It wasn’t actually. It was the right ball to make but he overhit it, it was Sercombe’s great technique to get the ball down and turn that made the goal. He played well today, as he did at Blackpool and Barnet too but as a striker you’re employed to score goals and another open miss today shows he hasn’t got it in him. Umm so the pass to Liam which hit him in the center of his chest was over hit ?

If I'm not mistaken Nichols was brought in to the club as a striker. Irrespective of his pretty ball skills and hairdo he has clearly failed. His only league goal I clearly remember. A poor passback by an opposition defender and he beat the keeper one on one and scored Since then he has had umpteen one on ones with keepers, another one today and failed everytime. I have not been impressed with Reilly or Jakubiak but surely they deserve more than the odd game to prove themselves. As far as I am concerned Nichols has had plenty of time to do that and has failed miserably . Our manager clearly is not prepared to admit his signing was a big mistake and persists in playing him. Some on here have said he is our best striker in spite of not scoring, I for one would like to see the others given more than the odd game and perhaps then given a level playing field we will all see if Nichols is our best option or not.

Give one of development squad a go why not? Ps a certain ginger haired bloke scored today I liked gaffers & sorry to see him go. BUT this constant reference to him scoring 2 lges lower, whilst being supplied chances by a very decent team, as if it is comparable to Lge 1, is truly not helpful. Also we don't know how much we got for him & what wage he was on.

I seem to be in a minority of one, but I thought Payne had a really good game today. Played the role of target man, a few nice headers on (including for the goal.) And at the end he was the only one who seemed to be making a real effort. I (for one) was impressed. Not sure why I'm seeing something so different to everyone else!🤔 Funnily enough I was just about to write something similar but quicker to jump on the back of yours. Payne wasn't that bad. Certainly put s bit of a shift in, and won headers. Heard someone on the radio utterly slagging him off, in very rude terms, and made a lot of him apparently winding the goalie up for 30 minutes (note slight exaggeration from caller). I admit it's hard to watch a match properly with 2 kids (inc 1 bored), but I saw the opposite. The goalie came out of his goal & gave it all big style when the pen was being sorted out. That is out of order. Their no.20 (ironically named Goode) also went right up to Lines when he had it on the spot, and was right in his ear. Ref didn't stop it, or even book him. Utterly disgraceful. A Dam horrible team. Maybe Payne was defending his team?? The one we support. Well, some of us support.

I thought payne did ok today, its just that he is a bang average player and dosnt look like he will score many goals. The other thing is that he looks overweight but maybe he has that build and has always looked like that? Last season you could clearly see how uncomfortable defenders were dealing with ellis and we have nothing even close to that now. Ps payne earned the penalty today. Pretty much true. As I wrote on a Payne thread several weeks ago... Fans need to lower their expectations of him. People need to go and have a look at his record / history. Was clearly a panic buy.

Payne's performance today will get a "6" in the national press, which given his mainly 4/5 performances so far was a vast improvement, not sure what happened to Nichols, Sercs & Bennett in the second half as from creating around half a dozen chances in the first they made zero. Was DC simply outsmarted by Stuart McCall by whatever changes he made at half time?

No. You (and clarke) need to recognise what he is - a attacking midfielder. Indeed one of the best in the division. Fantastic at making goal scoring opportunities when played in the right way. Never ever been correctly played since he has been with us.

Umm so the pass to Liam which hit him in the center of his chest was over hit ? Passes are usually supposed to be to the players feet? Put it this way, if Payne, Bennett or Lines had received the same ball, there would be very little chance of them scoring it. Not knocking Nichols though, he was one of our better players today.

From what I saw today Nichols spent most of the second half out far too wide on the right and nowhere near that rectangular things with nets in it.
Not sure if he just wanted to be a winger or DC asked him to play there, but he wasn't going to get a goal that way.

No. He was superior to Payne in every dept today. Payne needs to be dropped. not in the heading department, but at 5'7" and a hairdo to protect what do you expect?

ONE league goal in 47 games. I think that's the reason. If we have to play him then play him out wide, where he wouldn't be expected to score, and play Bennett on the other side. Unfortunately we have a manager who doesn't believe in having wide midfielders (or wingers as we used to call them)

He scored again today, and it would not surprise me if he scored against us next season

I think he made a few chances today and HEADED the ball, an art that has almost disappeared in the attack at Rovers
