Martin, Leadbitter, Lines, Payne, Nicholls all need to be moved on. Matthews, Rodman, Bennett, Upson have a lot to prove Lines keep ,one of the best playmakers at this level. get Mathews out wide get Bennet and Rodman out wide and we’ll play decent football. All this narrow sh**e is killing us. If I was Chris Lines I’d be looking to move on to a club that doesn’t play narrow hoof ball. He’s wasting his last years in our current style. Our success has been built around lines hitting the wide men and overlapping fullbacks but this season he’s got no targets.

Chris Lines takes a lot of stick on this forum. He is a class apart and struggles because of the lack of quality in the team as a whole.Talk of selling him is a joke...last week at Barnet , after he scored the pen : " He's one of our own, Chrissy Lines he's one of our own " rang out from the assembled Gas army. UTG. He was poor today. Because we played with no width.

I thought the full backs gave us width in the 1st half especially danny but they seemed to close that off in the 2nd period. One thing chris hasnt done much of this season is making surging runs into the heart of our opponents defence which has been just as much a feature of his game as passing wide imo.

The o p is correct imo, i totally agree.
Nichols must be dropped as a prominent striker.
There's only one way up out of the relegation zone and that's goals. Nichols this season is not a goal scorer.
We need two goal scorers to spearhead our attack, preferably linking up and forming a partnership. I'm confident given time, a Payne / Reilly partnership can reap goals if they can play closer together and gel.
As I see it, Nichols sometimes plays pretty stuff, sometimes assists midfielders, but ultimately over his season and half contribution not score or help his strike partner. He plays like a lone striker. So I see his inclusion as directly inhibiting a genuine opportunity to create a strike force.
If he should play, it should be in a role that's not pressurising the necessity to put the ball in the net. That should please everyone.
At the moment we are going down. Lack of goals is a huge contribution to that and one goal in 16 months is less than woeful. Shame on anyone whom still allows this to happen without at least spending quality time looking for a solution.

What the hell makes anybody confident a Payne/Reilly partnership will get goals! The only forward prepared to shoot at goal now is Bennett.

This OP is 40 games too late.
Nichols should have been dropped a year ago when we had adequate replacements in Telford and Gaffers.
Now we no longer have anyone better because both wanted away. No doubt because they were not getting game time and were behind the hapless Nichols.
DC has totally messed up with Nichols. It's already cost us at least one if not two players
It's now looking likely that it's going to cost us our L1 status and DC his job.
Sadly, Nichols is now our best forward. That's some achievement in mediocrity by the others attackers in the squad.

He has good work ethic don’t get me wrong and he is looking a stronger player, but something just isn’t clicking for him here. He would do well to go out on loan and get some goals somewhere else to build up his confidence. That should have happened over the summer. Yesterday, Yes Payne got his head on a flick on and won a penalty, but they were the only pieces of graft he actually did in the whole game. Otherwise he made no runs, he actually cleared a goal bound shot off the line in the first half, his positioning was terrible, his efforts to jump are embarrassing. He’s slow, one dimensional, has no form of footwork to turn a defender and gives possession away far too easily. Yesterday, twice, he gave the ball away in really good positions when it was actually easier to find one of our players. And yesterday was a continuation of all other games he’s played for us bar his first game. I really don’t see a L1 player in there.

Nobody is saying Nichols is a superb goal scorer but our other 3 so called strikers are so embarrassingly poor it's making Nichols look like a world beater without him even scoring! Nichols might well be 4th choice if we still had Gaffney, Telford and Harrison. Unfortunately we have Reilly, Payne and Jakubiak who are 3 of the worst strikers I've seen at Rovers in 40 years! Nichols at least has a very good all round game and has directly contributed to more goals than the other 3 put together. Despite not scoring he's actually been one of our best and most consistent performers this season. The team plays better and scores more goals with Nichols in it. I would do everything possible to get rid of the other 3 in January because quite frankly, they're not fit to wear the shirt.

The game: Nicholls: direct participation in the team's lone goal Payne: nothing Jakubiak: nothing The post after the game: Nicholls Must Be Dropped This is exactly the problem - Jakubiak came on in the 84th minute and you're comparing it to Nicholls 96 minutes on the pitch.

Jakubiak also played a full game v Exeter reserves on Tuesday and did nothing of note. Sadly neither him nor Reilly seem the answer. Plus I doubt Watford will allow him play on Tuesday anyway.

It's always a bad sign when your strikers aren't on the list of players considered to take a penalty to win a game.
Imagine this bunch at Wembley v Grimsby

There is constant discussion about DC changing the team all the time, but one area I think is hugely important here is the strikers. To change the strikers regularly I think is a big mistake. The reason why I say this is that strikers more than anyone else rely on confidence and they can only get confidence if they feel DC has confidence in them. I don't think it's a coincidence that Nicholls is now rated the best striker. Constantly picked were Harrison and Taylor who both had their critics but we're always picked and eventually flourished. Gaffney wasn't and when he was he didn't impress and was dropped again with the not unexpected conclusion. I think it's the same with Payne. I player will look a million times better with confidence than without. I do think it's time to take the pressure of Nicholls by playing him wide and playing another striker alongside Payne and then stick with it bar injuries. I feel the heart and fight is coming back into the side it's a time to be strong and to believe in ourselves, because if we don't no one else will.

Jukabiak and Reilly played the entire game against an extremely weak inexperienced Exeter on Tuesday and did absolutely nothing.
Not only did they fail to score against what is probably the weakest defence they'll come up against all season, they barely regsitered a shot or created a chance.
When Nichols doesn't play the team is under constant pressure because none of the other 3 can hold up the ball or link play.
