Maybe, although in a lot of ways he is about as close to a managerial unicorn as you can get. Two promotions in a fledgling career and unsullied by failure, well apart from those 8 games following Ward- but if one was being kind you could make allowances for what was a hospital pass not of his making. He has seemed to be overlooked in the running for jobs in favour of the likes of Hurst and the Cowleys who have arguably achieved less in tangible terms. I guess what I am trying to say is that outside of Rovers circles his achievements don't appear to have got as much credit as they deserve. I completely agree, whilst he was manager I was always fearful that he would be poached by other clubs, but at the same time both relieved and perplexed as to why the likes of Hurst etc were touted for jobs above him. He deserves a crack at a decent sized club, despite his final few months with us being a disappointment. Correct. Think there was a thread last summer about DC being overlooked for the Ipswich job and PH getting it. Loads of stuff comparing DC and PH. I’ve always reckoned DC has achieved more but Socrates probably right when he talks about fans memories being short. Also his miserable cup record won’t have helped as a good run in the cup does raise your profile and does make people sit up and take notice. I bet the Cowleys got more notice taken for their cup run two years back than a promotion from the NL and a solid season last year. He does deserve a crack at a decent sized club as you say. UTG!

I meet with the MD of Ipswich Ian Milne from time to time, I can assure you DC wasn’t even on the shortlist. There is a perception about levels, DC (my second favourite manager ever) did well getting us out of the conference, & then up from League 2, but then tailed off. DC is seen as someone who creates a great team spirit, but got too clever for his own good, trying to prove his signings weren’t all sh**, and that every game was a new project & that outweighed the benefits of a team getting to know each other & play better consistently. PH was seen as someone who took a low budget & nearly got the Shrews into the Championship. DC’s Worth was at its peak when we were just in League 1 (hence Leeds approach) but since then he is seen as someone who can’t over achieve at League 1 level, so I would expect him to resurface at a League 2 club to try & prove he can do better next time, then who knows. Ipswich wanted someone who could deliver exciting football on a low (for championship) budget, PH looked ideal, but he changed to much & replaced championship quality with league 1 & 2 ‘potential’, the club is now likely to get relegated, be careful what you wish for as they say!

Interesting insight, think his tinkering became his downfall, pretty much quoted by Rodders who never got a run in the side.

There's hardly anything ground breaking by those comments.

How about other clubs up and down the country think Bristol Rovers should in the top 6- 8 in L1 and DC never managed that ? yes he finished 10th first season which was good but followed it up with 13th last season - so no progression ?

That's what I take from those comments...IF that really is the estem DC is held in by those at board level of other clubs then it seems they have higher expectations than we do because on the whole fans here were quite happy with his performance in league one and it was never considered that he under achieved with his budget, even this season as he still seemed to have the support of many when he left. I'll certainly.be surprised if he makes his return at league one level, I think it will have to be league two, which is not necessarily a fair reflection of his ability but as mentoined above it seems a promotion and a good FA Cup run counts for more than two promotions on the bounce these days.

I think it’s got more to do with his promotions not being recent. People look at Bristol Rovers and think league 1 sized club, then they look at our league position , they see DC was sacked with us 4 points adrift and look no further. I think a good example is If Paul Hurst hadn’t gone to Ipswich in the summer and Shrewsbury were in the relegation zone now or even midtable would any championship club be after him this Christmas? Things change quickly in football and it’s all about the here and now more and more unfortunately. Leeds came in for DC after back to back promotions and I bet other clubs were looking at him too at that time, the fact he achieved two mid table finishes with a lower league budget following that would have been lost on most championship clubs owners even though in my opinion at least those mid table finishes were perhaps as big an achievement as those promotions themselves. Some might say this post is bollocks but it’s my opinion in how football has become.

I know there’s more to it than support base but I’d imagine our support base is top half league 1 and potentially championship. Problem is our clubs been badly managed at the top for the last 20 years or so , some could say much longer and we’ve been left behind by most clubs in terms of being run properly and creating non match day income etc which actually makes us a more likely a lower league 1- upper league 2 club. Shame because the potential is there and it’s painful for us as supporters. Still I’d take mid table this season I know we all would.

I see hurst as a despicable two faced person who was negotiating with ipswich town in the lead up to shrewsbury towns vital play-off final and got caught doing it. I know who i prefer.

Err, strange one that because I'd suggest that, based on recent evidence, the MD of Ippo is hardly someone I'd wish to listen to at the moment. In effect sacked a manager that was doing fine (with a 38% win ratio & in mid table) and replaced him with someone who controversially shipped out many experienced players & brought in 'potential' which did not work. 8% win ratio. Then appointed a manager from their bitterest rival (first time ever) who has 1 win in 8 and anchored them at the bottom of the table - couldn't even achieve a new manager bounce. I'm biased of course as my best mate is a Canary but they are bloody badly run
