BristolLive understand the 44-year-old Irishman is set to be given the position full time. Coughlan joined the Gas as defence coach in the summer and was previously a little seen member of the coaching staff but when long term manager Darrell Clarke left the club on December 13, with his assistant manager Marcus Stewart following, the former defender was asked to step up to the top job and he did so in style. With 48 hours notice Coughlan, who was previously head coach at Southend United under manager Phil Brown, transformed Rovers into a highly competitive outfit which almost rocked Sunderland at the Stadium of Light before going down 2-1. Since that initial game Coughlan has cemented his case for the job full time by not losing again, setting Rovers on a three game winning streak, beating Fleetwood 2-1, Walsall 3-1 and Oxford United 3-1 before drawing 0-0 with Burton Albion on New Year’s day. The impressive turn around in form, which has seen the manager get the players believing again, has dragged the club out of the relegation zone up to 19th. Coughlan has already established himself as a firm fan favourite as the latest saviour of the club and has already made a habit of passionately celebrating with the adoring Gasheads after victories. The club are expected to announce the appointment this weekend with the Rovers without a game as their scheduled opponents Peterborough United are in action in the FA Cup away at Championship side Middlesbrough. The Pirates are next in action on Tuesday away at Northampton Town in the third round of the Checkatrade Trophy. Also gone to 1/8 with sky bet and 1/5 with betvictor with Flynn and Garner pushed out.

Much like your post then. The club have found someone who has picked the squad up, got the backing of fans and has actually already delivered results. They would be utterly vilified if they brought in a new man an he lost his first 2 games. If it's not broke, don't break it.

Hope this is true. The mans completely turned out season on its head and knows league 1 as well as anyone. Giving the job to him until the end of the season is our best hope of staying up. It’s a results business and he’s taken 10 points from our last four games.

He may well be the cheapest option, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I suspect that more to the point is that he is less than a gamble than the likes of Garner, who I suspect was just the right man at the wrong time.
Coughlan's done enough to be given a shot at it. He has simplified things for the players and the results have been good. I hope he has enough about him to develop the style of play to something a little more progressive in time, but fully accept this is secondary to his primary aim this season of keeping us in this division.
And he's not Cotterill!
Good luck GC.

So who would you have gone for if given the choice? Flynn (with LL FFS!!) & Cotterill have no appeal to Gasheads, Garner would be a massive gamble & Holloway had no chance.

Only time will tell if it's a good appointment, but at this moment it seems to be a sensible appointment.

Time to back Graham now ASAP we need loan signings in and get them bedded in. GC has proven he’ll play loan players if they perform rather than sitting on the bench every game. Whatever the board did in this position fans would moan it’s the wrong decision, if GC had lost most of the last 4 games it would be clear cut to spend money paying a club off and take a gamble on a manager and that money is better spent on players right now, Anyone Who was free was still a gamble with either their best days are behind them or unproven record... To me GC has impressed me due to the fact we’ve won away which doesn’t happen back to back...clearly the players are happy to put the effort and quality in for him as they believe in him and that’s not easy to get that instantly

OK with this provided the man is totally backed by the board and two or three new players are brought in. If not, it's just a money saving exercise by our owners and if we are unfortunately relegated it will no doubt come back to bite them with a loss of many ST holders. Any further lack of news on the other well known issues will further compound their problems.
