so our best player was replaced by some one who was anonymous for the rest of the game and in no way contributed anything but, that lead to us winning?
wow!

Just got back. Haven’t read the thread so don’t know others’ take on the match.Great result and we showed good character but in terms of quality their No 10 was the best player on the pitch. They missed a couple of chances in the second half he set up and he can feel a bit aggrieved at his teammates. Bradford started better than us but started to run out of steam after half an hour. By that time they should have been two up. Two corners by LS really changed the mood and after JCHs thumping header we always looked better. I can’t criticise the character and resilience of our team but apart from THD setting up JCH for the winner any chances we had JCH really had to get it deep and make a run. I think we’ll be ok now but we do need to put some creativity into the team. Glad that Rodman was back he will give us more balance. I thought Ed Upson, TC and TL were excellent and defended so well before they got that late equaliser. Our FBs just let cross after cross into our box and our CHs and Bonham defended really well. For someone who came to us for his last couple of years I think TC gives his all and for our two later goals he was trying to get the rest of them to focus and not get carried away. Great example. And Upson was the best of midfield, occasionally got caught but he often had no options and he passed very well and kept us going when we under the cosh at times. UTG! I agree with most of that but probably a bit harsh on our fullbacks. With us playing three narrow defensive midfielders and Sercs tucked in behind the strikers we are massively exposed down the flanks, especially against sides with attacking fullbacks as ours are then often left 2 v 1 so difficult to stay tight and prevent crosses. Our system also makes it easy for sides to attack us, home to Luton and again today either the opposition fullback or wide midfield player had acres of room for the keeper to pick out.

What makes you think sercombe was tucked in behind the strikers? Perhaps a free role between the midfield and strikers would be a better description of the role he's played since GC opted for our current formation. My point being none of the midfield four provide much protection for our fullbacks leaving them exposed and open to criticism which I think is unfair.

Granted he will obviously look better in a more successful team as would everyone. I just don’t think HE is that player to make others look better or drive a team on. That is what you need if you want to progress. By all means keep him but he needs a better player next to him to allow him to perform well. He is not that guy imo. UTG JCH didn’t take off until he joined us. Sometimes the team you’re in can make you are great player. If you’re in a poor team they can make you look ordinary. I’m still a fan of Ollie and don’t understand the negativity he seems to attract from so many. we are a poor team

Definitely far too narrow and the full backs are exposed but mistakes like JC today in the box there’s no excuse.

The point I was making was in response to the fullbacks being criticised for allowing too many crosses when it is the system, not the players at fault.

We are a selling club. If anyone comes in with the right money he'll be gone. Same for 99% of clubs. Whilst I agree, it will be another bitter pill to swallow if we sell him for peanuts. We should have got a million plus for both Taylor and Bodin. Agree if we let him go on the cheap, but we've got him on a long deal and he's on fire so we should be getting big money for him. Should....

Mistake or just a difficult ball to deal with, he could hardly clear it with his right foot and probably couldn't risk it with his weaker left foot, so tried to control it with his right and just got caught out. GC brought on Rodders and went 4-5-1 to try and protect the FB's, then we give another goal away as Serc's & THD were to weak defending a corner! Serc's is our only creative CM but the rest of the CM's don't half have to carry him.

It seems to me that in pretty much every game this season that Nichols has played that whenever we’ve subbed him we’ve lost our tempo and struggled more. Even when he hasn’t been playing well , subbing him seems to cause us problems in terms of keeping control of a game . No doubt about it he’s built a good understanding with JCH anyway and I reckon we haven’t lost a game this season that they’ve started as our front two, I could be wrong.

Perhaps a bit harsh but against any decent team we would have lost today because at times there were acres for their wide men. Your explanation makes a lot of sense and you’re probably right but if it’s the system then we need quicker and more mobile FBs. Against Luton we were punished, against Bradford we got away with it. I like James C and THD will be better for this season after his injuries but today they weren’t at their best. UTG!
