Luton losing.... we still keep the record for the longest run without losing in our league. š I thought the game against us equalled it, and they've played and not lost since They set a new record of 28 games in the same season, but our record of 27 in a season plus 5 from the end of the previous season, means our 32 game record still stands. |

I agree with most of that but probably a bit harsh on our fullbacks. With us playing three narrow defensive midfielders and Sercs tucked in behind the strikers we are massively exposed down the flanks, especially against sides with attacking fullbacks as ours are then often left 2 v 1 so difficult to stay tight and prevent crosses. Our system also makes it easy for sides to attack us, home to Luton and again today either the opposition fullback or wide midfield player had acres of room for the keeper to pick out. Perhaps a bit harsh but against any decent team we would have lost today because at times there were acres for their wide men. Your explanation makes a lot of sense and youāre probably right but if itās the system then we need quicker and more mobile FBs. Against Luton we were punished, against Bradford we got away with it. I like James C and THD will be better for this season after his injuries but today they werenāt at their best. UTG! I think GC has just kind of stumbled upon the current narrow formation and sees it as the best way of grinding out results to keep us up although it does obviously leave us a bit exposed down the flanks. I really hope that with a summer of wheeling and dealing and the opportunity of drilling in a method of play through preseason we'll have a better style next season - I certainly hope so as although I'm enjoying our change in fortune under GC I don't really enjoy the current style of a flat back four with three defensive minded midfielders in front of them. Needs must I guess! |

GC absolutely got off the hook today. Ridiculous going one up front with 4 CMs and one winger, left us inviting the pressure on and the writing was on the wall for the equaliser. Equally ridiculous was taking off our one CM (ollie) that hadnāt been booked for Sinclair, which also saw us sit even more deep.
Thank f**k for JCH.

Wow. Worst winning performance from a team I've ever seen. Absolutely woeful but boy did that winner taste sweet. We look the poorest team in the league based on recent performances but it's all about staying up now. I can't really understand it when people analyse football like this. Poorest team in the lge on recent performances? Really. Has the points system in football changed and no-one told me? |

Definitely far too narrow and the full backs are exposed but mistakes like JC today in the box thereās no excuse. Mistake or just a difficult ball to deal with, he could hardly clear it with his right foot and probably couldn't risk it with his weaker left foot, so tried to control it with his right and just got caught out.Ā GC brought on Rodders and went 4-5-1 to try and protect the FB's, then we give another goal away as Serc's & THD were to weak defending a corner! Serc's is our only creative CM but the rest of the CM's don't half have to carry him.Ā Not sure we can describe Sercombe as creative. A goalscoring midfielder yes (or rather, he was last year), but he doesn't create things in the way an in form Lines does, for example. It seems to me that Coughlan clearly doesn't rate Lines though, and if that is the case a creative midfielder has to be top of his shopping list over the summer. As for Sercombe, I thought he was much better out wide today. We improved when we switched to a standard 4-4-2, until the bizarre substitutions nearly undid that improvement. |

JCH didnāt take off until he joined us. Sometimes the team youāre in can make you are great player. If youāre in a poor team they can make you look ordinary. Iām still a fan of Ollie and donāt understand the negativity he seems to attract from so many. we are a poor team Fortunately thereās quite a few poor teams in league one |

Without JCH we would be where they are, no doubt about that in my opinion. We need big changes to our squad in the summer if we are to be anywhere near the playoffs next season. |

so our best player was replaced by some one who was anonymous for the rest of the game and in no way contributed anything but, that lead to us winning? wow! That was not what I said. I said that we scored within a minute of him being replaced whether or not the player who replaced him contributed to the play leading to the goal is neither here nor there. The fact is we scored within a minute of the substitution so Nichols non involvement would appear to have had a positive effect and resulted in a goal. Furthermore we scored more goals in the 20 minutes he wasn't on the pitch than the 70 he was. Whether if Nichols had stayed on we would still have won is something we will never know, however I think it was the right decision to substitute him. |

No way close to his best, but we two goals down the left hand side with him back in the team. No coincidence.
Really hope he can get his fitness levels to where we need them. Quality player.

He signed a new contract though didn't he and snubbed Oxford. Him, his agent and us agreed on a Ā£300,000 release clause. That was my point. Taylor was worth at least Ā£2M in today's climate after scoring pretty much 60 goals in 2 and half seasons. I agree he would have had a potential value of Ā£1m+ if he had a contract with no such clauses, however, as a free agent he held all the aces and would probably have never signed our deal without it being included. All if, buts and maybes and done to death in previous threads. Let's just hope JCH has no such clause in his contract although it wouldn't be a surprise me if there was either a release clause or large sell on fee - if we were keen to get him and those were non negotiable terms set by either him or Coventry then the alternative would have been to walk away and probably be sat alongside Bradford at the bottom of the table! Which was my point. Lets not get mugged off again in essence like we did previosly. |

The gaffer certainly got away with one yesterday, bigtime. I felt Nichols played well again but the issue for me wasnāt wether taking him off or not was the right decision, but in fact who he was replaced with. Alex Jack should have been the straight swap, with fresh legs going up against their tiring and desperate defensive line. One that was few in numbers as they pushed forward for a leveller. Bringing a striker off for a midfielder invited on total pressure, against a side who were already in an all or nothing mentality.
The equaliser on 90mins was a total punch to the stomach and you could feel it all around the ground. Bradford even hit a rocket that narrowly went wide, almost snatching the 3 points for themselves. Still, one more excellent bit of quality from wide & JCH did what he does.
The lad was good enough to come into the Thatchers Bar post match & say a few words about his performance and that of the team. Heās celebration at the end was his last sprint of the afternoon as he āhad absolutely nothing left in his legsā.
Iām now looking forward to Wimbledon Away with the rest of the Hudson gang, when on 90mins yesterday I was absolutely dreading it. UTG

Far from hindsight, given I said exactly what Iāve written to friends/family in real time as soon as the changes were made. I was pretty much spitting nails watching the next 15-20mins unfold before our eyes. When Knight-Percival scoops his effort into the bottom corner, many of us were livid. Trying to see out a 2-1 lead against a desperate kitchen sink throwing outfit like Bradford, for an entire 20mins with 1 very knackered striker on the pitch, was absolutely ridiculous. But allās well that ends well, we were happy as Larry 2minutes later & thatās all that matters. |
