You just know he's gonna be a right cretin when we play there in a couple of weeks. Yeah unless he has a complete personality transplant between then and now.

Interesting. Joey Barton has emphatically denied accusations laid against him. The news report clearly uses the word accusations rather than charges so maybe he hasn't actually been charged with anything. Maybe this is all a witch hunt against him. But if he's innocent then who on earth smacked the Barnsley manager?
What I really want to know is whether the Barnsley manager clasped his face, hit the deck like he'd been shot, rolled around faking agony and then got up when the ref waved the red card.

Maybe Stendel attacked Barton.
Maybe the only reasonable way to keep his job is to emphatically deny everything until it comes to court, the same way Adam Johnson kept his job.

Barton hasn't been charged just questioned so far, the only suggestion he actually thumped the Barnsley manager has come for his own player via a quickly deleted tweet. The fact Barton's been questioned suggests there's something to the accusations but that doesn't mean he will be charged and then found guilty.

Barton's spokeswoman responded, saying: "Our client, Joey Barton, was today charged under ... the Offences against the Person Act in relation to a training ground incident which occurred on May 1 this year. Joey strenuously denies the charge and welcomes the opportunity to clear his name in the public forum. No further statements will be issued."
...shortly before pleading guilty to ABH on Ousmane Dabo.

I read that the Barnsley manager was pushed in the back, and fell forward, banging his face against a metal pipe running down the wall, resulting in his teeth being damaged and some blood loss. Not defending Barton, but maybe it could have been a case of some handbags type pushing and shoving which led to the injury rather than a punch, which has been assumed.

I think you missed out the bit where he allegedly called him a "G...... t055er" before giving him a push/punch (delete as appropriate)?

Didn't miss anything out, as your post is the first time I've seen the alleged words quoted. Thanks for the additional information.

Obviously we're all pretty much peeing in the wind a bit, but the law is a funny beast and if my A level law is still accurate you will generally be charged with the entirety of what happened / severity of the injury, so for example drawing even a drop of blood will usually be more serious (the Offences against the Person Act 1861). And in 1998 they created the distinct offence of racially or religiously aggravated wounding or infliction of bodily harm.
