To be honest if people at Rovers support Tommy Robinson then I'm done. These absolute cretins are what's wrong with society. There are fans at every club that support him. Football crowds are a reflection of society. You pick 9000 people off the streets and put them in a small area there will be racists , homophobes , rapists even murderers in that 9000. Every club has its idiots. Sod em.

What has Tommy Robinson and the IRA got to do with Rovers? Bugger all, so why sing about them. Just leave the politics out of football.

There’s all ways been fascism/ racism and politics in football crowds for as long as I’ve been going. I agree with what your saying but like I’ve already said when you’ve got thousands of people in a small space your going to get it . It’s the way of the world.

In all my years and over 70 of the 92 Football League grounds visited, I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything like the IRA chant that’s spewed from the Blackthorn/Thatchers End the last 15 odd years. It’s a stain on our club.

Chelsea on 2 occasions (once with Rovers) Leeds three times (twice with Rovers) Rangers for a cup match & Stoke with the Rovers way back when. I didn’t encounter any singing of the sort on these visits. Yet every single home game, your run of the mill Saturday encounter from Sheff Wednesday in L1 to Aldershot Town in the conference, we are ‘treated’ to an IRA referenced song. They may be Burberry sporting, mindless hooligan wannabe teens, but the consistency is definitely there.

Not that I think there is any need to sing about the IRA at all, isn't the chant "f*ck the city and the IRA"? Hardly endorsing them

Let's hope they don't learn the famine song or that will really upset a few on here.

You're quite right that it's a regular chant from certain clubs across the country. But Loyalist supporters in Horfield? Oh please. They have no idea what they're singing about, but they have some vague idea that it's a bit offensive to some people, so the numpties do it. They've grown up watching and hearing it sung from years ago, and mindlessly absorbed it as a terrace chant. If they had the brains to make any connection between the IRA song and the birthplace of the manager who has just engineered the great escape from League 2, they might stop bellowing it out, but I wouldn't count on it.

Most of them are 14 and don’t know nearly enough about the IRA, but they do know enough to know that it’s controversial/offensive and that’s why they sing it. Same reason kids like that sing 10 German Bombers etc.
