I’m not concerned if we sign scales and not another attacker. We could play a back 5 with 2 wing backs, middle two and someone in the hole behind the two strikers. Jaakola Davies Craig scales Little Leahy Agogo Clarke sercombe Nicholls JCH Subs - Jordi, Kilgour, Kelly, Upson, rodman, Reilly, Moore Back ups -Andre, meyanese, russe, mensah, Bennett , kavanagh, I wonder why he signed Tyler Smith? You're "not concerned" if we don't sign Scales but include him in your team.

Starting with three central defenders seems to be wise, for a new beginning in the arrea after the loss of Lockyer. And the more it securises the back it also would bring more activity and threat on the wings and upfront with two strikers. I am looking to see what the next matchs bring, but this could look pretty pretty pretty, good!

As he plays for Ireland Under 21’s you could say that everytime he gets rid of the ball it’s an international clearance. Hahahahaha. water off.

I know we were all hoping for a marquee striker signing, but we're Bristol Rovers and losing £3m a year, it ain't gonna happen. Last time we spent a fair wedge on a striker was Tom Nichols and look how that's worked out! He and Reilly will have gained some confidence from their goals in pre season so let's hope they can take that in to the league. JCH's injury may be a blessing which takes him out of the limelight and helps us hold on to him. Deon Moore has signed on and looks a prospect, and Smith will hopefully get more opportunities than DC gave his loan striker signings. A fully fit Rodman will chip in with a few and Bennett got goals for Swindon and looks to have returned with an improved attitude. Ollie Clarke guarantees you 5 screamers and if Sercombe can find his form of 2 years ago that's another attacking threat! I think I read that we finished 8th in the table after GC took over? Bury and Bolton start on - 12 points so that takes a lot of pressure off already below us. Keep swiping right on that Rose Tinder 😎🌹 If that is the case why did GC build fans expectations by suggesting he would be signing "marquee" signings, didn't he even suggest "big names" It's all a bit odd why one minute we're lining up a couple of big signings the next apparently priced out of the market. Inexperience? This is his first managerial role remember, so he has zero experience in managing fans expectations etc.

Alright, but I mean he is new to the manager role. That's not necessarily a bad thing, our more successful managers have historically been in their 1st or 2nd job.

I wouldn't disagree with that, just felt it was unfair to label GC with zero experience. Certainly still new and in his early days.

Wasn't meant as a criticism, just a potential explanation ro the original question.

There wouldn't have been loads of player's out of contract in January. This is the first time he would have experienced this type of thing. Probably thought he had a few player's about to sign on free transfers, who then went elsewhere for more money.

I think SLG meant that if we DID sign Scales but NOT, or INSTEAD of, another attacker, he wouldn't be worried. I can't see that he said "if we don't sign Scales" at all. Still, if you just want an argument.....

Although fans expectations is a bit irrelevant as he clearly thought he could sign a couple of "big names" but hasn't for some reason, so what's gone wrong, we simply couldn't afford them when it came to the crunch or funding wasn't actually there to sign them.

It's more like Lime Scale than Liam Scales the way it's lingering on

If JCH is out for a while I suppose it makes sense but surely at least one of the 5 will go out on loan? I sadly watched the Swansea game the other night and it’s glaringly obvious TN and GR are not a combination up top together. Defence look ok to me, midfield the issue (again). No balance in there, too many similar players and not enough spark. If I could add just one player now it would be a creative midfielder but who is available? Maybe just maybe a gem from the development squad? Let’s hope so! UTG

Kampucheagas makes a good point, I think Tomlinson is high up in GCS plans, and there are one or two others bubbling under like Tom Mehew who can pick a pass.
