But how much is the hotel, if it's stand alone development, and cinema etc going to take up on the site? As far as clearing the site the other poster mentions that's surely the present owner's problem not ours? Is it definitely going to right next to it?? A lot of clubs do it elsewhere. If there is more free land, within a few miles, it could be done somewhere else. Do they can you name them? Pretty sure Wael indicted yesterday that the development included those on the fruit market site. No real season they can't do a Bolton/Reading & Blackpool(?) and build them into the stands.

I'm desperate for us to move away from the tip that is the Memorial Ground. It's lack of atmosphere and facilities, not to mention the more important point that it cannot take us forward make it something that needs consigning to our history. The quicker it's knocked down and turned into a more fitting memorial, the better. However, am I alone in thinking that this is a terrible location for a football stadium? Yes, it's near the train station, but not many people will pay the costs of rail travel to go to a football match. The bus servive is poor, largely because Bristol is massively clogged up with traffic. If the club think people will use public transport, I think they are in cloud cuckoo land. That leaves the car. Most people clearly use the car at present, but if we think parking is bad in Horfield, it's nothing compared to the St Phillips area. There would need to be a massive re-think of the area before parking would be a practical solution. As I say, I'm desperate to leave the Mem, but surely in this day and age it has to be to an out of town site? I look forward to hearing more about our plans, but fear that if the transport issue isn't resolved, it could end up being a lovely shiny stadium that is only 20% full. But like most people, I'm no expert on stadia or transport planning. What am I missing?A brain and any knowledge of the planning process. Out off town development died decades ago due mainly to traffic and cars. get on the train, bus or even better. As Norm Tebbett said "get on yer bike" on yer

Montpelier in France has a system of free out-of-town multi-storey car parks right next to overland tube stations. People just park their car and take the tube in. The city centre is a delight to stroll in, unlike Bristol.

Supporters come from all over the place so location will benefit some but not others. Public transport - whether we like it or not - will be the way forward. Having a stadium very close to a major transport hub in Bristol Temple Meads might keep the nimbys/environmentalists happy. In an ideal world you'd get to 'the fruit bowl' via train from your local station. With weekly/monthly/annual tickets for trains already available someone must liaise with the train operators for a 23 return journey ticket. Or discounted travel on production of match ticket. Sorry, thinking ahead there Ideally we'd make a deal with First where they offer a 23 time return journey card to Rovers fans in return for us pushing a park & ride for fans coming from the north of the city, from UWE for example

Not so much for those of us who don’t. Parking will be minimal and getting there a nightmare. Not great at the Mem so I arrive early to ensure I can park at the civil service car park. If you can easily access a train and enough trains run to make it worthwhile.

Luton had to get planning on two different sites, not long ago. They got planning for a stadium, then they were waiting on planning for these other project. Think Plymouth's new facilities that funded their new stand, is separate, but very close to the stadium as well. It might be at the same site. But if there is not enough room, no reason why it can't be elsewhere. It's still going to bring in the same money, where ever it is. Just saying, it's another option. Missed the part where Wael mentioned putting a hotel there etc, didn't catch all the interview. I expect us to build other facilities somewhere, to fund a stadium though.

I think we're all overlooking the most important point. Where can we get a beer?

I can see the AQ's wanting to incorporate a hotel in with the stadium, as they are already involved with the hotel business but not so sure about cinema as there is already one down the road from this site. Cineworld/ showcase cant remember which are bound to object to another cinema near by, this could slow down getting planning permission.

Inappropriate because the traffic is one issue, the Link Road, on a Saturday is very busy and can only get worse if the ground is built. I mentioned on my original post that pollution would be an issue as its in or very near the city centre, Horfield is on the outskirts. Despite all that's been said about park and rides, train stations all these are excellent but both GWR and First bus are owned by the First group who are not exactly renowned for reliability, punctuality and value for money. Both those schemes rely on people selecting those services as their first choice. Problem with both bus and train is that, yes its great for getting to the ground as supporters arrive at different times but at the end of the game, all the supporters want to get on the transport at the same time. There is also problem with segregation of supporters in the park and ride and stations.
Build it in Severnside and you have the M49 to get supporters away from the ground with ease. Severnside site would not be land locked like the Fruit Market, should BRFC ever make the Premiership, after all a new ground is supposed to take the club forward, 20,000 gates would probably not be enough to sustain it.

Sorry if I have missed something obvious, but in yesterday’s interview Wael said nothing about Hotels, Cinema, Multi Sports etc. Where has this come from? That said, I suppose that if they are thinking of incorporating this into a Stadium build at the Fruit Market & have already started some planning dialogue with the council, the room for those facilities must exist. I imagine having no or very little parking for supporters would go down extremely well with the council. Personally I am reserving any excitement until I see the seats in place & the opening day is announced- but well played Wael for giving us an update on your plans to date, thank you. 👏

Going to football is not just about going to the football for many fans it’s a chance to catch up with friends and have a few hours out socialising and watching football. Out of town sites such as the one you suggest would be horrendous for that. Also absolutely no one could walk to the match, public transport would be poor or non existent and pretty much everyone would have to go by car all leaving the car parks at exactly the same time, so you can add an hour onto when you get home for that! Building in existing urban areas increases the flexibility of access and public transport can be more easily adapted so that it is the majority choice. Even where we are now the bus service that goes up and down the Gloucester Rd is excellent it’s just getting more people to use it that’s the issue. A fully integrated metro/bus/train system with oyster like cards would be a start.

Not bad.

Just listened to the interview. No mention of other facilities at the stadium. Why does the Colony have to be linked with the new stadium? This suggests DS do not have the money to develop and that all the funding is from outside sources so what role will DS have with Rovers going forward if all this did take off? The fruit market site is limiting for future progress like the Mem as you could never get a bigger stadium than 20k. Access for those who don’t live in the Bristol area will be a nightmare and using a train will add so much time to get to Bristol and home again. However, if this is the only realistic option, then it will have to do. Still doubt it will happen as seen too many false dawns.

The Fruit Market St Phillips, ffs, what a load of *******, how the **** are you going to people in and out of Sparky Park ? Never seen you happy. Or not swearing for that matter. O dear, the morally superior are live and well; fortunately, how l feel, and decide to narrate, currently at least, is a matter for me and no one else, long may that continue. The point in question, is in my opinion, taking too much notice of the annual Wael & Twentyman radio address to the faithful, can be rather full hardy. Thinking your can build a twenty thousand seat stadium on the Fruit Market, a site where the surrounding area has no infrastructure to support a massive influx of vehicles, is strange at best and will be a very challenging discussion with Bristol City Council.

Would have been more space if I shifted everything slightly to the right, but you can see it's pretty tight. I'm sure an architect would do 10000000000x better though View AttachmentView Attachment Great effort Gassy 👍🏻 How do you propose to deal with the issue of the East to West rotation of the Sun? Great for the groundsman not so great for the keeper at the East end. Ooooh just realised we will have an East end lol. Easy mate, I’ll just insert a retractable roof that shades our goalkeeper but has a mirror that reflects sunlight onto the opposing keeper
