Apparently lots of complaints about recent concerts at Ashton - Muse had the highest number as they were loud and out of tune. Council don't want to ban concerts there until they have a credible alternative as they feel it will stir up the Arena argument again and put heat back on YTL who do a good trip to Malaysia. Hence helping Rovers using the grant money to build 20,000 venue suitable for concerts in non-residential area near to original planned site. Once Stadium is built all concerts at Ashton will be banned. Boom. There’s your feasibility for all of those questioning why building another stadium in an area of what will be high desirability will be. Question is how do we manage to protect or grow the pitch. Especially if events happen during the season which you can imagine the council would expect if this is another option to tick the arena box. Palletised pitch like at the Millennium Principality Stadium?

Apparently locals around Ashton have also complained they moved in expecting there not to be any noise from the Stadium as it was always quiet when City were playing at home.

But that’s why it’s not desirable- because it won’t be all purpose without a roof. Only capable of holding events in the summer when it’s warm won’t be any good. 20,000 people will be reluctant to pay £40+ to freeze their collective tits off in the rain in November. Perhaps the council could invest in a retractable roof for the stadium, probably cheaper to them than the cost of building the arena...

The money is still there to be used around the area Temple Meads Arena Island etc, I hope no shady deals are being made, so there could be so truth behind funding and helping the travellers settle around that area. Oh the gift that keeps giving - of course they don’t care

It’s not strictly accurate. The original arena plan meant that the council’s borrowing would be covered by the rent paid by the arena operators. Since the mayor scrapped the original arena (a spectacularly stupid decision in my opinion), the YTL arena at the Brabazon hangers is the favoured option. There is no chance that the council will be funding a retractable roof on a stadium.

Check out Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin. The only stadium in the world with a permanent roof and real grass pitch. This would be ideal for us.

The thing is Bristol Council are keen to have an Arena and the Brabazon hanger is South Glos. to save face they will support the Fruit market proposal as it’s right next to the old site. All infrastructure is in place. New multi use site to incorporate the football by a consortium is ideal.

Only just, but it’s on the Bristol side of the border with South Glos.
