Al-Qadi told BBC Points West. "If you look at it's size (of the land at the Memorial Stadium), it's kind of ideal. Our size is exactly the same as Everton's stadium. It's a beautiful piece of land, in the heart-bed of Rovers fans." That was before they looked into it though. Then they said it was viable because of planning constraints. At the time they said they were looking into multiple options. Even when Wael said the fruit market was the preferred site, he said we were still looking into other options as well. Hopefully the wait will be worth it in the end. Who knows what is going on now!

Wrexham Getway - Kop StandInteresting article on the Wrexham stand development. I guess it shows how complex the funding of these things can be but also that there are numerous ways to fund development. It also shows how much their council was doing to help this become a reality. Bristol city council are very hands off with any Rovers development.

Sorry, been ill and missed a bit.
We would not have owned the stadium at UWE - we were being asked to pay for it and give it to UWE who were providing the land. We just got a long lease for match days only in return.
I believe these terms are in the archive here somewhere, they were made public at the time. It was a rubbish deal.

Didn't Wael go back shortly afterwards once things died down and still couldn't make it work?

We refer to them as Shamesburys. Nothing to do with Rovers, our local one is just a bit crap Blame it on Aldi and Lidle , their the ones that undercut Sainsbury and Tesco's to prompt them to stop building large superstores. Sainsbury's were 'outed' for outbidding competitors and being preferred bidders for numerous plots of land throughout the country but never completing the deal(s).

In my opinion NH was at fault in not realising that the land was never worth 30 million and in nit seeing through this but no point in dragging it up, the ironic part was the UWWE bigwigs saying we pulled out and they were shocked and waiting for us to come back to the negotiating table

If Sainsburys had provisionally agreed to 30mn that is how much it was worth at the time. The problem was that Higgs et al thought it was water tight when it wasn’t. I still think if we tried to flog it we’d get a good amount of cash for it. Property is still big business and prices haven’t gone down as much as expected so there’s opportunity there if we find somewhere else to make a bit of cash.

Lets be honest if somebody had £30m/£50m to build a football stadium in Bristol I'm sure it would get built somewhere.

At long last this thread can be closed, at tonight's AGM Wael when asked the question from the floor announced a new stadium wouldn't happen for at least another 5 or 7 years but didn't mention even if it were to happen the Fruit Market.
