Where would most people sooner stay in an hotel at a sports stadium, Bristol, Bolton, Reading or Leicester? Blackpool I have stayed at the hotel at both Blackpool and Reading. At Blackpool I had a room that had a view of the pitch, got to see a reserve game, hotel was OK. The hotel at the reading stadium is very nice. Something like that would be ideal for Rovers.

You must have a short memory regarding planning re Sainsbury's if we needed planning for 10,000 undesirables we would not have got it. No chance the locals would not complain about loads of concerts etc. Also not sure what is appealing about the mem apart from the local pubs and eateries that the club makes no money from. At the end of the day it's a site in the burbs surrounded by housing, with little to no commercial opportunities as demonstrated by us being there for years and not being able to make much. It's not near either university or near large employers such as the premier Inn is. The Premier Inn is 10 minutes away!??! Not a game changer. As for concerts, I doubt if there's ever been an open air concert anywhere in the UK, ever, where the locals haven't complained. But they happen. Like the Eastville Park festival. Anyway I won't bore anyone with my sums, but I have been working this out very carefully, and just four sold out concerts a year, plus rent charged to the hotel and two restaurants would raise just over £3m per annum in revenue. Not profit of course. That would be for our steely-eyed negotiators to negotiate. Concerts in general probably get complaints. A lot of open air concerts are not on purpose built land. I'd imagine the MK bowl probably gets fewer complaints due to it being built for purpose and locally Westonbirt arboretum wouldn't as it's out in the 'sticks' (see what I did there) Think the first gig I saw advertised at Westonbirt was Robert Plant. I did snigger but I am a 49 year old child

Although it's not really clear if the money is there to rebuild the stand as they've just missed out on any UK Government "levelling up" grants.

It’s ok if it’s only once or twice a year that Festival goers are pi$$ing in peoples front gardens , any more and the Nimby’s start getting agitated.

So Grant says stuff happening on and off the pitch.... Is it happening? Isn't it happening?

I’m optimistic given what the players and staff have been saying.
Fingers crossed for some news soon.

Almost 3 weeks without a post on this thread. Is that a record? I'm going to ruin the peace by saying Forest Green have started groundworks today. Duck and cover

Nothing more on our new South Tent either so perhaps the rumours of ground sharing with Mangotsfield have some credence after all.

i wrote a letter to Tom regarding the state of the stadium. Briefly in my letter I suggested building fixed roofed pre-fab stands either side of the east stand and replacing the South and south west tents with a new fixed roofed L shaped stand . Having worked with the local planning dept in West Wiltshire I pointed out that from my experience to get a new stadium off the ground to completion it would take about 7 years, that is seven years of lost additional revenue. Tom replied, he says he agreed with everything I said and the club are looking to remove the tents in the summer and replace the South and South West stands with a new L shaped fixed roof stand, he didn't mention any improvements to the east side of the stadium. But was in agreement with what I said in my letter So it looks like we will be in the Mem for at least another 7 years as there was no mention of any immediate planning going in for a new stadium at the moment. But at least the club are doing everything they can to sort things.Tom did put something regarding this in his programme notes for the Tuesday night game.
