RIP Big man, remember the first time i watched him play thinking wow what a big fella so light on his feet
Many many goals scored when Taylor was at the front post at corners, knowing he was going to flick the ball on for others to Nod in

Still upset with the news. I met Stuart a few times and had a good chat about some memorable fixtures he was involved in. My uncle was Chairman of Bath City when he was manager and I know Stuart was popular and well-respected there. Another one of Megson's Marvels now departed. Dick Sheppard, Gordon Fearnley, Trevor Jacobs, Lindsay Parsons and now the Big Man. RIP sir. You are a real Rovers legend.

I remember signing a guy from Norwich on loan called Phil lythgoe who said taking corners was easy as all he had to do was find Stuart with the ball and he would do the rest! Great servant sadly missed

Unfortunately I never saw Stuart play, having spoken to people who did he has seemed to fall foul of the curse of the defence minded player. We're quick to hear tales of Bradford, Biggs, Warboys and Bannister but rarely of Bamford, Pitt, Green and Taylor. The misty eyed remembrance of forward players will always be a thing. While folk reel off the list of wonderful strikers from the 1990's they often forget about the stalwart behind them in Andy Tillson. Is Stuart Taylor the most underrated player in the clubs history? Without seeing him, I couldn't tell you. Do the sheer number of games he played for the club and longevity deserve more adulation, respect and anecdotes? Absolutely.
Rest in Peace, Stuart.

Stuart Taylor's playing days were before my time unfortunately, but to have spent his entire career at the Gas and been the record appearance holder clearly makes him an undisputed legend of the club.
Rest In Peace Stuart.

In those pre-social media days he was a very good defender who probably could have gone on to better leagues. The number of cup goals and the threat he caused higher league teams in our cup runs of the late 60s and early 70s would have got him noticed. Being a Bristol boy and being happy at Rovers was probably enough for him. In today’s age with football being so glitzy and glamorous he may have faced different decisions about moving on. Whatever, Stuart was a tremendous player and example for BRFC. Blimey, 15 seasons of being first choice centre half probably hasn’t been done since his time and won’t be done ever again. I hope the PFA are supporting his family at this time, esp with all the publicity about the effects of heading the balls of the past. In keeping with his top position as a player and everything else for BRFC I hope this thread can stay near the top of the list and above all the itk-stuff and crap about takeovers and the fruit market. In this, the week of his passing, it’s the least that Stuart Taylor deserves to be, top of the table. Imo! UTG!

Which shows what he could have achieved had he moved on. Yet he stayed at Rovers, what a man. Deserving of all the things people should be saying about him in the days to come. UTG!

My dad always said the same Stuart was the better of the two. I remember the word going around was that Liverpool came to watch big Stu but were impressed with Lloyd and signed him instead. Rumours back then too. One game i remember is Rovers at Norwich, it was on MOTD, Stuart was outstanding that game, scored the goal in a one nil win if i remember correctly, got picked out for special praise by Jimmy Hill or whoever was presenting the show. I was a proud gashead that night.

I was a school with Stuart at Parkwall Primary and played in the same school team. He was a good kid then and, obviously, continued in that vein. RIP.

No paying of respects before kick off today? Keith Brookman said on commentary today that a tribute will be paid to Stuart, (one of my earliest heroes) at a later date/match in conjunction with his family. RIP & UTG from Isla Plana

No paying of respects before kick off today? I think they’re planning a tribute for him at an upcoming game.

Waiting for a future game will help them involve the family and give them time to get it right. Better than rushing it over the two days they’ve had. UTG!
