I thought first half was marginally better than Tuesday and could have been more than 1-0. Second half we played well and deserved the point. Sercombe coming in helped massively but that wasn’t down to just him individually it was because it gave us width with rodnan pushing up and meant we had two wide players on each side rather than one. 3-5-2 is so narrow and it makes it so hard to play football, it works ok in terms of results with JCH in but with him out out we need to have more width and play football.

Awful performance again today, very grateful for a point. Poor attendance, performances like the last two home ones will not bring supporters back anytime soon. Really glad to see Sercs back on the pitch, his presence really helped get the team back in the game. Not sure what Ollie Clarke is up to, not good enough, he now needs to join Nichols on the bench.

I like your insight Socrates but how can 3- 5 - 2 be narrow ? Leahy was hugging the touchline all first half watching from the east terrace.

Great saves early on from the keeper, but why does he not come for crosses? surely take the ball before the attacker heads it.

Think it’s been said the Sunderland game will be postponed due to it being international weekend

Another positive is the home crowd coming back up, noting the weather and people being away on half term. We only had just over 7000 today though. Pompey crowd boosted it. Still decent enough though. Yep, get that ... just thought the fact that home fans got back over 7k as had slipped into the 6ks a few times.

Think it’s been said the Sunderland game ei be postponed due to it being international weekend It means that fingers crossed we will only have 1 more league game without JCH which is next weekend. There were some crosses that were just calling out for the big man to get on the end of today, cannot be understated how much of a boost it will be to get him back. The partnership of Adeboyejo and Smith just didn’t look threatening in the slightest and hardly troubled Pompey.

A well earned point that we had to battle hard for!
Jaak made some crucial saves to keep us in it.
Upson much better than his horror show on Tuesday.
Abs threw himself into and at everything and thoroughly deserved MoM.
But no one seems to have mentioned Victor's contribution today. I thought he did well holding the play up and winning most of the long balls. He's not a patch on JCH but he stood tall and was really our only outlet up top. Smith on the other hand was out muscled pretty much all game.
So pleased we rescued a point and it felt like a win tbh. The most important thing is that we avoided losing 3 on the bounce and 2 on the trot at home.
Well done GC and the boys!
UTG!

Because leahy was the only player we had on the left and rodman the only player on the right. Makes it very hard to get those players up the pitch to get crosses in. Once the changes were made we had sercombe and leahy left and little Rodman right which have us more balance and more for Pompey to think about and we controlled the game better , passed better , used the width well it was better all round.

Agree, especially when Hare was in the team, I think we play with decent width tbf, yeah the centre is quite congested but it is the only thing we can do at the moment, we don’t have enough competition in the wide areas for us to have enough quality there, I also think when THD and Little are fully fit it will be the best formation for us depending on our movement in January.

We were crap today
Portsmouth fans in the south stand were left scratching their heads as to exactly how they contrived to f**k that up.

Do you think weplayed expansive football in 3-5-2 today or more more expansive once we changed formations ?

If you thought we were crap today what do you think we've played like for the past couple of seasons? I thought we played far better than we have done for the majority of the last couple of seasons, in fact with JCH in the side we could well have won.

3-5-2 can be very expansive if you’ve got two quality wingbacks that can run all day , one creative midfielder playing just behind a front two who ideally link well and score and create goals for each other but we haven’t got that and when 3-5-2 has worked for us it’s not because it’s been in any way expansive it’s because we’ve played with 7-8 defensive players , haven’t conceded many and JCH has scored goals in games frequently and at the right times.

I said last week that we have been utter dogshit to watch since the last 6 months of DCs reign and I saw nothing again today that changed my mind. Its utterly crap week in week out, regardless of the results. Obviously I can't argue with results and our league position but i am not enjoying sitting through games like today.
