3-5-2 can be very expansive if you’ve got two quality wingbacks that can run all day These days full-backs play more like wing-backs even when in a back 4.

Yes as we’ve seen over the years with lee brown , Danny leads etc . thing is if they’ve got an attacking team mate in front of them it gives them an option to play one twos and link up with and overlap . In 3-5-2 with the players we’ve got we don’t see any of that that. We end up with a back 5 , 3 central defensive midfielders in front of them and other hoofing it to JCH which works or going duh what do we do when he’s not there.

Ollie Clarke must be dropped now. 2 and three quarters games played since returning and he’s had a stinker every time. 0 goals scored in that time with him on the pitch, 2 in the last 20 minutes today as soon as he went off. Says a lot!

I see what your saying but if sercombe is ready to play 90 minutes next game do you think Olly should start instead of him ? Who would be your first choice midfield 3 assuming we stick with 5-3-2 ?

The game totally bypassed him today, god knows what's happened to his game, as having already lost the ability to pass and shoot, he's now also lost the ability to tackle as well. Surely Hargreaves or Russe are better options if Sercs can't still play a full game. Even Bennett does something with the ball, all OC did was get caught in possession whenever he got the ball.

That was complete Dog sh** today and very very lucky to get a point
A better team than Portsmouth would have slaughtered us today
Smith is just not good enough up front and Victor is not much better

I thought Ollie played well today, getting match fit. Great result after the last two performances. A few changes with Nichols and Bennett being off loaded in January hopefully if they continue to not perform. Graham Coughlan has been amazing in the transfer market with limited resources. Completely agree. I feel like OC has been scapegoated a bit for finding ourselves 2-0 down. He didn’t do anything of great value but at the same time he kept the game ticking. I feel as though Sercombe made him look very ordinary for what was a match changing substitution. An inform Sercombe provides the quality that Bristol Rovers so often miss in the two boxes bar Jakkola and JCH this season.

I personally thought Portsmouth were a good team, they were the better team for 75 mins, we were the better team for 15 mins. With all our players fit we might have a decent season. I am not sure the rigid 5-3-2 formation works when we are losing and felt the manager stuck with it for too long, in the last two games the strikers received very little service in good positions when they are facing goal. To his credit the manager changed the way we played late in the game and we managed to salvage an undeserved point.

One of the great mysteries of the world. T Bone appears when we are losing but disappears when we make a comeback. Perhaps Ollie Clarke’s great uncle Arthur C could investigate?

Maybe TBone is stuck in a black hole or just staying away because he’s worried about gravity taking hold on our league position.

Says a lot! He is out of form. Upson also had a stinker. I think the formation change made the difference, having a bit more width. Formation change should have happened sooner, as per Tuesday GC is at a loss when we are worked out.
