Last night on Radio Bristol there was an interview by Laura Rawlings with our Mayor, Marvin Rees, and fair play to her she gave him a bit of a grilling about Bristol Councils involvement or lack of involvement with finding a site for a new ground. He is a Gashead and regularly attends matches. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p07ry9zd Worth a listen starts at about 6 minutes in.

The ugly reality is our football club haven't built a seated stand since 1959. It is a record held in all 5 divisions. Secondly: if you go on Bristol Council planning there is a list of 'approved' projects in the last 20 years . The problem it seems is we have no money or vision to actually built anything. So let's be clear . We have had planning and approval on at least 5 major projects . The issue is around funding and ownership. Also I understand the chairman of Plymouth funded their new stand by the tune of £5 million. It would be a dream if anyone at our club built a south/west stand(s) at the MEM. We continue in hope.. www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ryan-lowe-argyle-simon-hallett-3362556

People slate BCC for us not having a new ground but they have approved everything we have given them. Do we expect BCC to pay for all or part of a stadium in a 2 team City?
Lack of fund's is the reason nothings gets built. As the teds (rightly) say, we expect a new ground but want someone else to pay for it.
Not surprising really considering the training ground fiasco.

Thought the interviewer was being a bit of a dick in regards to Rovers. She seemed to be trying to make something of Marvin's reluctance to go to Ashton Gate, and pushed him about 6 times on talking about the stadium when he made it very clear it could jeopardise any deal.

Well, I thought it was a very good interview by Laura and well done to her for pressing about the discussions that may have taken place with the Council. Clearly there has been discussions and there is a will to facilitate as much as they can. Positive I would say even if unwilling to discuss details of what might have been proposed.

It seems positive and confirms what we’ve known for sometime. Things are still happening behind the scenes and, despite fan frustrations and desire to know everything the moment it happens, we have to respect the need to keep a lid on leaking information. We just have to continue our wait and keep everything crossed !

She pressed gently and with respect. She is an excellent interviewer and you would be the first to grumble if she had not asked about what the council's stance on a new ground was.

Yeah, you ask once, and then you ask again. Fair enough. After about the fifth or sixth time it just felt like she had lost the plot. And (while we're telling each other what we would be the first to do) you would be the first to go ballistic if the plans had collapsed over something said in that interview.

Not surprising really considering the training ground fiasco. Who had said we expect BCC to pay for it? I think the reason they're so heavily involved is because it's a central piece of land which is worth a lot of money. I imagine any potential investor wants guarantees that they will be able to build a stadium there rather than just taking a punt on it. Secondly, the Teds can f**k off. They haven't paid for anything just got lucky that they've got an owner who sees them as a hobby and will convert any debt to shares. Or have they paid for the Trashton redevelopment whilst mounting up huge losses?
