I don't listen to Radio 1 but they do a thing on there at about 8.15am where people give their unpopular opinions.
So what are your unpopular opinions?!

That there is a quality footballer in Tom Nichols. That football fans shouldn’t boo and abuse their own fans. Away from Rovers my views on law an order are probably unpopular in this snowflake world. Open more prisons, divide all existing cells in to two and lock more people up for longer. Three strikes and your out - even if it’s shop lifting polo mints. Serious crimes automatic life sentences with no parole. Chain gangs picking up litter, tidying motorway verges and sorting land fill for recycling. Give up on rehabilitation and use prison to keep undesirables away from the law abiding folk. could go further and put a noose in every prison cell for those who don’t like my new regime !!!

That the decision of Bristol Rovers to sell a stadium that was built as a war memorial ( as a tribute to Bristolian dead of WW1 ), so that it could be knocked down and a supermarket built in it`s place, was beyond shameful. We got absolutely what we deserved from the whole sorry saga.

When taking a corner, the attacking team should always send a second player for a possible short corner. This instantly means two defenders have to come out to cover the move. Otherwise, if you leave one attacker to take the corner, the defenders always have the advantage in numbers. Doing this also reduces the number of bodies in the box for when the corner comes in leaving more space for the attackers. Every team should do this for every corner.

And going with that, when we've a corner against us, leave 2 up front. That takes at least 3 opponents out of our box to cover the breakaway.

With leaving two up they need three defenders, plus the keeper, plus the one taking the corner, which means they have five players not providing any sort of threat, while the defenders have nine players to cover the six attackers.

You can thank my Father for that one, shouts it out every time. Although he's watered on too much brandy in his coffee. Bless him.

On the subject of corners something that winds me up is people moaning when a goal gets scored from a corner and they question why there was nobody on the posts but still want everyone man to man marked as well. Would work ok if it was 13 v 11 !!!!

As this is the unpopular opinion thread, can I suggest that there has to be someone to blame before the legal bods can make a lot more money chasing compensation?

My unpopular opinion on this one, is that the jury was correct in it`s decision. If Duckenfield hadn`t ordered that gate to be opened, people probably would have died outside the stadium. Damned if he did, damned if he didn`t. The lies he told afterwards, ( appalling as they were ) weren`t responsible for the fans deaths.

It appears to me that when issues like this end in tragedy public authorities rarely are found culpable and subsequently prosecuted. Take Grenfell. Can it be reasonably argued that Hammersmith & Chelsea local authority were NOT ultimately responsible for the materials chosen to clad that building? In the case of Hillsborough which safety authority passed off the maximum number of people in that ground, by section? Who was counting them? Listening to R4 on the way in and there was an article about OFSTED. Child safety and safeguarding is, apparently, part of their remit. However OFSTED funding has been cut by 52% since 2010. Who then is, or would be, responsible if some horrific event took place?

The bar for a conviction in this case was very high and without hearing all the evidence you have to respect the decision the jury reached. Its terrible for the families to have this hanging over them for so many years and the reaction from the authorities at outset was appalling. I don’t think the campaigners will rest until they have their scapegoat which looks unlikely to ever happen and they perhaps need to find a way of moving on with their own lives.

Easy for me to say, but I agree with you. This torture they must have endured, or are still enduring, has to be put to bed and for their own sanity to move on. But, the big but, what lessons have been learned? How do we ensure, as far as is possible that this does not happen again(in all examples for regulatory or operational failure)
