just was chatting to a mate who said there was talk of someth8ng else going on Coughlan's family and friends have gone full bot mode on twitter; claiming he was not allowed to play JCH for some conspiracy reason or another. Saying he was told no money (no surprise) and would have to sell players rather than bring in new ones for the promotion push. Most likely all bullshit, of course.. Check out the timeline of Watsdecraicjmac for example I guess this guy/girl just follows Gaschat as most of us accept what he's suggesting is spot on, the fact we've replaced GC with BG suggests they want to put the brakes on any promotion charge. I must admit JCH's calf strain in training was an odd one particularly how it was apparently leaked to the Bristol Post, just when we were supposed to be trying to tie him down to a new contract.

I think graham knows he made a mistake and realised that quite quickly, sadly for him the option of staying was taken away Tbf I think GC has overestimated himself, or at the very least underestimated the size of the job he has to do with Mansfield. They're a team that clearly believe they should be pushing for promotion and if GC doesn't hit the ground running I think the pressure will be on him very quickly, they seemingly expect a lot with the money they've spent recruiting him and JD and paying off their compensation fees.

The cheapest option would have been Hargreaves or someone else, already on the books. Personally I think he's a good choice and I don't think his wages will be less than GC's. They have given him a 2 and half year deal and he's been an assistant for a Premier League club. Expect he was on more than GC and all of our staff then. Wouldn't be surprised, if he's atleast on his wages now. Plus we went for Nathan Jones, but he was not interested. It wasn't about the cheapest option. Never understood fans, who think any board don't want to do up. What world do they live in. If they want to sell the club, or keep us, it would still be better for them, if we went up. More TV money, more ticket sales, more media, better sponsorship deals etc. They could still keep the playing budget at 60%. Which would higher the wages a lot. But the 40% for other stuff, would be a lot higher, lowering our losses. They wouldn't need to higher the budget, if they didn't care. Could just keep the extra money and come straight back down. Why would they want to put the brakes on? Give me one good reason?

I am no fan of the board, but surely the cheapest option would have been the people we already have at the club, such as Hargreaves and Mansell. Perhaps he was the person who was the best for the job in terms of bringing young players through and contacts in football to get loans etc. Didn’t we approach Nathan Jones first? Certainly not a cheap option.

The cheapest option would have been to promote from within. Do you seriously think the ALQs are deliberately trying to sabotage a chance of promotion?

Do you seriously think the ALQs are deliberately trying to sabotage a chance of promotion? I agree. Who, in their right mind, would come to a club where the board effectively say, or give the impression that, "If we appoint you, you must not win too many matches because we do not want to get promoted."? The board have to sell the club as having great potential. This particularly applies to Rovers, as Wael has not had a piggy back for some time and is starting to mope, which is irritating the family. This is even more borne out by the fact that a young manager, especially one in his first managerial role, would most definitely not take on a job where he knew he could not enhance his worth. Indeed, I would opine that he would look at it as jumping on a partially made chance of gaining promotion. This is an old chestnut that does the rounds every time a team stutters and chokes.

He wouldn't take a job where he would enhance his worth? I strongly suspect it's a case of taking what he can get, and would assume he's applied for numerous lower league managerial roles over the years and always been overlooked. We would have held all the cards in the negotiation and I think it's fair to say he's entered management in a lofty height he wouldn't have dreamed of.

Garner won't have been a cheap option and anyway, why is the cheapest option necessarily a bad one? The only managers to have achieved anything in this century were both internal appointments and so-called cheap options.
The notion that any board will have attracted a manager, however inexperienced, by suggesting to him that we'd better not win too many games is ridiculous. It's true that we are in no way set up for life in the Championship and would probably have to keep our wages as low as possible in that league were we to get there, but to suggest we don't want to win games just smacks of ammunition for those who seem to have an agenda against Garner already.
Give the bloke a chance FFS. Unless things are truly awful (i.e. Dobson, Penney, Buckle), that means judge him at the end of next season. This was clearly an ambitious, long term appointment. Give him a chance to see if he can make it work, rather than writing him off after one training session and one game.

I watched the recent Starnes interview and thought he was very genuine and straight talking especially about his ambitions for the club. Do you believe he wasn't?

Don’t think garner is a cheap option but he isn’t an expensive option either. Gasheads seem to be getting excited about his coaching in the prem but he was out of work and has not had a management role before. Expensive coach he may have been, but unproven as a manager he is.

It was certainly an out the box appointment but I agree it's unfair to write him off and not give it a chance to work. You talk about giving him time and seeing it as a long term move, but a big problem I see is the fact BG has no managerial credentials to date, despite his coaching background. Therefore if things started to detertiate on the pitch, he obviously won't receive the same level of patience as others who have had managerial success previously.

If he does struggle, which I doubt, they could always appoint a temporary Director of Football.

Hargreaves is clearly happy managing the kids, he seems to have no interest in the managers job, or the other candidates a manager desperate to get into management with zero managerail experience is always going to be the cheaper option. The acid test around the owners ambitions will come in January around what happens with JCH, fans pretending the owners are desperate to get us promoted only have to look back on how GC (wasn't) backed in the summer.
