Perhaps I would I’m not sure, I think he was already making his name he’s been in football a long time only Gas manager for a year. I’d probably want to go home , talk to my wife and kids in private, discuss it with them and then make a decision. If I decided to move back up north leaving the building firm down south in a much better position than when I joined them then I’d expect them to say thanks for all the hard work much appreciated and good luck in the future. If they didn’t and said things like “ f**k you” ( quoted from on here tonight) then I certainly wouldn’t have any regrets. GC has been massively under appreciated by Bristol Rovers supporters on the whole and like I’ve said in previous posts “ you get what you deserve”. I’ve also said that family is more important than anything. Good luck Cogs. I'm sure he would get a better response if he done things in a better way than how he has tonight. As it stands if things fall through with Mansfield his current job is now untenable and it's only himself to blame for it. Mansfield want him, i think they will get him. Bristol Rovers shambles once more.

If anyone ever, ever wants to know what it's like being a Rovers fan, today is one of the best days in our history in terms of providing an example. Beat Ipswich away from home to move 4th in the league with a game in hand. And then in less than 4 hours, lose the man that masterminded the victory... To a club a division below us. Dear God. Yep, this could be a very sad day for us supporters. Things haven't sounded good at the club ever since the UWE stadium deal collapsed.

Really, he is a football manager... Surely his family support him if he was earning enough, and he should be paid more having us 4th in the table. Cant understand why you would leave for a struggling league 2 club, that could go down and really ruin his managerial career...unless he is going to be earning more than he is here. ....IF GC is even going to them. It’s alright saying surely his family support him because he’s on what ? Probably a hundred grand a week possibly more, but he’s got a wife with kids and they see him for probably a few hours a week ? My mrs would rather I took a wage cut and spend time with my family than earn more and never see them and to be honest if I was in that situation I probably would to. I’m a builder and have been offered very good money working away over the years but I want to be around my daughter, take her to school be around for them to enjoy my family. All my work is local and I’m earning maybe half of what I could be working all around the country but what’s the point in having a family if your never with them or there for them. That’s why I’m not in the get stuffed Cogs team. For what it’s worth nobody seems to know what’s going on anyway , but if it is to be with his family then Graham Coughlan I salute you , your a top bloke and you’ve been brilliant for us and I wish you well. UTG That’s it in a nutshell socrates. Family comes first, second and third for any right thinking person. He’s done a great job here, few resources, perhaps not the best football but we’ve had some great results. Looking doomed a year ago now we’re looking safe in League 1 and possibly a play off or even better. Thanks GC. But blimey, 4th in League 1, the highest since 2000 and we’re looking at our manager going to League 2 Mansfield who relegated us. Could all be a plea for more money we just don’t know. Like most things we have a littleness bit of info and start to draw all sorts of conclusions. Perhaps managing us has taken its toll, a year ago he seemed to think our training facilities were ok, the budget was ok and he was so pleased that BRFC had finally given him a chance after years of not getting an opportunity. And the distance between Sheffield and Bristol is the same now as it was then. I’ve no idea but perhaps it’s all been harder than he expected being number one in the club instead of “just” a coach. Perhaps there’s been a family problem, we just don’t know but we need to respect his decision whatever it is. Those who dislike the owners will try and create something that supports their opinions. I hope he stays but he’ll be replaced and we’re in a great position and I’ve always supported BRFC and whoever is managing at the time. Let’s hope for a speedy resolution, one way or the other. UTG!

I think he meant £100k a year? Not sure what a rookie L1 manger earns, but £100k/annum seems likely Trolls was on much more than that - and that was 10 years ago !

He wanted to stay at Southend, then came to us when they didnt want him. Neither anywhere near where his family lives Maybe he uses the same atlas as Lee Brown. Bad news seems to bring out the best of your humour.......

When was the last time our Manager left us whilst under contract to go to a lower league club? I can’t remember it happening .... That's because we're never successful enough for them to leave us for a higher club let alone a lower one!

Do people actually believe that DC turned them down? Personally I think he would have lasted a month there before being sacked No i dont believe DC turned down Leeds, he was overlooked. With respect to DC, Legend in my eyes, If a club like Leeds come calling you go, i dont think he turned them down as first choice for the job. He told an audience of about 100 people that he turned down the job at Leeds, even told what his salary would have been.

Compensation will be agreed by Monday pm, for sure. No idea bideford but I presume they pay up his salary for the duration of the contract or any other compensation that’s written into it. As long as we get compensation then if he wants to go I’ve no major problem although surprised esp at the timing. UTG!

This has to be one of the lowest points ever. Ditched for a tin pot side a league below . This is really really sad if true. They may be tin pot but they've got an impressive newly-opened training ground and their stadium has three stands that are better than anything we have. www.mansfieldtown.net/club/the-rh-academy/

So a team challenging for Play-offs or automatic promotion into the championship is losing our manager to Dam Mansfield in L2 ?

Love the whole "I was right not to warm to him" comments. Stay classy and grow up people! If he leaves it will most likely be down to a number of reasons, much like when any of us leave jobs. It wouldn't make him a bad person, and nobody can deny that he's done a superb job with us regardless of whether the football has been pretty on the eye. As GC has said, he's been cutting his cloth according to what he has available. We play functional football because we don't have the quality in our squad to play expensively at this level. He's had sh**ty treatment off a lot of our fans and now we have fans taking the high road even before anything is official? Ridiculous. He owes nothing to the fans, but he wouldn’t even be in a position to sign for Mansfield if the owners hadn’t given him a shot. He should have said nowt from the start but the fact he was so happy with the conditions when he started and now it.’s not good enough suggests that as a man he is even more fickle than football supporters. He only had to stick around for 4 months and see the the job through- it’s not like we were in a crap position and there was nothing to gain by staying. It’s really poor form from him. To be fair he was probably towing the line at the start regarding the facilities. What was he expected to say "yep Darrell was right the facilities are awful and the owners have to get their finger out"? And I'm yet to see an official quote from him slating the board/facilities/budget. He said as far as I'm aware "I don't know how far I can take this club". Is that tantamount to saying everything people are assuming he said? Not for me. If you can show me a link to where he questioned the budget today then please do, and I'll happily be proven wrong. Plus IF he goes to Mansfield that may be because of personal reasons, maybe his wife is struggling and he needs to spend more time at home and left time on the road? Who knows, but I don't think we should jump to conclusions and be quick to anger without any facts to back it up.

Probably a bit late for that, hes painted himself into a corner and more or less made his position untenable hasnt he?

For someone who couldn't get a managers job that might have been an attractive start point on a 2.5 year contract?

I’m obvs wrong though..... wouldn’t be the fist time ! 😃

Highest position in 20 years and then this bomb shell...not even funny anymore, It really isn’t Ironic that it was Holloway that last had us this high up and now he’s being touted for a return. How did it end from this position last time...?! Ouch!!
