At Heathrow ready to fly tomorrow and over a glass of red my thoughts strayed to what next in 2020.
What sort of policy development would you wish on the UK over the next 12 months?

Well, it can't be within the EU as Oldie and the remainers keep telling us that freedom of movement has stopped and we will no longer be able to go to Europaland anymore, especially if you are a young 'un.

Just flitting through headlines last night and the sheer level of knife crime and death as a result is horrific. I hope our new government prioritises this issue.

Well William he's been telling us for months what a terrible country this is living under the Tories, but he can still sip wine and jet off to faraway climes. Perhaps it isn't too bad here after all? Schhhh....

Jesus, 149 in 2019 (so far) in London alone.
Croydon stabbing: 60-year-old man knifed to death in London
Case sparks 148th murder investigation in London of 2019 - the deadliest year since 2008
What price the reduction of 20,000 police?

All we hear Oldie is lower taxes, lower taxes, people don't want to pay for anything as long as no one gets stabbed in their front garden.

Hi is this the bully Oldie thread? No Oh right my mistake, it's just 80% of the posts were derogatory towards him. Perhaps it's me being the snowflake generation reading posts on forums and getting wound up and personal eh.

Croydon stabbing: 60-year-old man knifed to death in London Case sparks 148th murder investigation in London of 2019 - the deadliest year since 2008 What price the reduction of 20,000 police? This has been mentioned throughout the year on this forum and if memory serves had its own topic, The reasons for knife crime are more focused on the following rather than less old bill on the streets, gang inter fighting, drug dealing, peer pressure etc. People have been stabbed in front of old bill so more of them will have little effect, the quickest way to stop it is to let em sort each other out and lock up the rest, yung uns think nothing of using a knife, in much the same way as you'd use a punch back in the day, you get weapons amnesties the only thing this does is get old blunt tatty knives off the streets so the owner of the knife gets a new one safe in the knowledge that his or her old weapon is disappearing with no charges. Some say legalise drugs so the gangs cant profit from them(as an aside jello biafra sang drugs lets legalise em,so the mob cant price em) ,this looks an attractive way forward the only problem with that is if the gangs cant make money off of drugs they will turn elsewhere, which means more members of the public being burgled or mugged. Me i will never begin to understand why someone can die just for looking at someone, talking to someone or for accidentally treading on someones bloody shoes The sad thing about all this is we all probably know someone who would stab someone in front of a copper, knife crime figures are way under the real number of knife crimes as a lot of these youngsters who get stabbed will either patch themselves up or someone in their gang will do it for them. Oldie if you want to look at how bad things are in this sh** hole of a country look at the in the courts section of different local papers around the uk, then look at some of the side links, for me the really upsetting part of doing that is the shear amount of physical and or sexual violence against babies and children in this country, the numbers are truly heartbreaking. Closer to home there have been several murders stabbings etc in the bristol area recently, Besides this most people caught and locked up dont give a toss about being locked up as its a badge of honour on the streets. Im sorry but the reality is you could employ a million new coppers and it would have little effect on violent or quick crimes

On t'other thread, Oldie is arguing against tougher sentencing. On this thread he is crying out as to what can be done to lower the amount of knife crime..........
Instead of arguing and moaning, maybe he can suggest what can be done? What is his opinion? Anyone can snip from the sidelines.

You misrepresent me (per norm) I questioned whether was evidence that longer sentences are an actual deterrent. The experience in the states tells no, and our own police force, in recent interviews called it a blunt instrument. My personal opinion is that we are witnessing a breakdown of civil society. The causes are many, absentee fathers, water poor education, a breakdown in the provision of local facilities, families struggling to afford a decent home with the stress that brings to bear, a breakdown in the ability of the police to reduce drug related crime. It's going to be a hell of a road back from this mess.
