Ia anyone else getting spooked by what is going on? I have an Alexa box in the hallway to control lights. There is also Alexa on the tv, on my Kindle, on my phone and even on the new headphones I recently bought.
But it's what is happening that worries me. I had a small conversation with my wife about putting the winter tyres on the car, and next morning I'm getting adverts on the computer for winter tyres. Last night was even more worrying. I had to assemble a file unit for my wife's office upstairs in the house. So, I went to the cellar, got the Bosche Powered Screwdriver thingy, and assembled the unit. This was probably the first time in about a year since I've used it. Then I put everything away. I was on my own and didn't speak at all. Today, the first adverts I received were for Bosche Powered Screwdrivers ! WTF is going on? This could not have been picked up by Alexa, as I didn't speak at all. Therefore, it could only have been picked up be either the device itself transmitting something, which I doubt, or 'something' like the tv saw me use it, but I didn't go near any tv! Just how deep is this surveillance going? Seriously.
Anyone else experiencing odd things like this?

Thats why I wouldnt have anything that. Alexa is always on, listening........ Same with your "smart" T.V, listening to everything that is said.
You give them permission to listen to your private conversastions, you wouldn't tell me all about your private life, yet you would let Google listen-in on everything you say. WHY?

But I don't give them permission to listen to everything I say. Also, the thing with the Bosche Power Screwdriver, I didn't speak at all, so it couldn't have been via a listening device. Not only that there are no listening devices upstairs in the house anyway.

Yes you did, its in the small print, its like windows 10 ships with most permissions set to on and you have to disable them , same with phone apps a lot want total permissions over your phone. Back to alexa i hope you have a different password for every device you use. An awful lot of people use the default password with iot devices. I would never use anything related to alexa as i think its an update of an old advertising malware with the same name Have a read about a piece of software called wireshark and kali linux those bits of software are for security and penetration testing, coupled with a touch screen and a raspberry pi, you have a very good mobile wifi password sniffer (only use the aforementioned software for educational purposes to secure your own network.)

It`s not just Alexa though. If you`re on Facebook, they know more about you than you`d be happy with. Same with google and a lot of other social media platforms, Forums used to be regularly monitored by uk goverment agencies on a daily basis. I used to laugh at people on facebook moaning when their pictures were used by others as the t&c used to state that everything including text and images became the property of facebook and they also owned the copyright, i dont know if that has been removed now as i dont use it .
There was a government office in Bristol called government news , their job was to literally copy anything that mentioned the government from papers online etc

I wanted to wait until she was really filthy dirty and her spirit had been broken . She loves playing with my tail. I'll release her by the end of the month but she'll never be the same. You're welcome to what's left

In the unlikely event that you have a few spare hours to yourself, "The Fear Index" by Robert Harris, is about exactly this. He normally writes historical novels, "Pompeii", "Fatherland" etc, but this is about a group of Hedge Fund managers, whose lives are turned upside down by inexplicable occurrences. Cracking read.

I shall look it up, thanks. I do like to read and currently I've got about 150 books on my Kindle that I've read. That works out at about one book per month which is not bad going. It is worrying though. I'm an IT bod so I'm pretty switched on regarding this stuff but this with the Bosche Power Screwdriver has freaked me out a bit. I was on my own, I didn't talk, didn't walk in front of any smart tv's with it, there are no listening/Alexa devices upstairs in the house. My phone was downstairs as I'm the type that doesn't carry it around with me. In fact I can go days without even knowing where my phone is ! I'm not a phone freak.........so how did they know and start bombarding me with adverts for the exact same type of device, by the same manufacturer? Now you've recommended the book, if I download it do you think we will start getting "people you may know" stuff in Facebook trying to link us?

Hi Nobby it's happening all the time ,we don't have anything like Alexa however on many occasions after a chat about something the products appear on our laptops and phones. I think the laptop camera is reversed and so is the audio I can't see any other answer but it wateres me of big time.
