I dont believe the Chinese propaganda machine for a 2nd. But, they did clamp down much harder on social interaction than we have. As have the Singaporeans. Agreed guess you can only do that in a totalitarian state. Singapore is a more interesting example. They have laws we would probably object to, but you dont feel it living there. Visiting family there I had no sense at all of censorship, unlike Hong Kong. Like South Korea, they are tracking mobile phones of those diagnosed or contacts of victims. You can now be imprisoned if you break curfew. But the population agree with it.

I agree there is a greater degree of compliance, whereas in this Country we have a significant minority who don't give a toss increasing the risk to the vulnerable which is I believe reflective of our Society.

I work for one of our big supermarket chains, ( on the shop floor, not in an office ). We have been given good advice by the management viz a viz social interactions, ( keep six feet apart etc ) and measures have been put in place to make this possible, but I was dismayed yesterday by the number of people not complying. Mostly younger people, but by no means all. I don`t know what the Chinese would do to anyone not complying with the regulations, ( although I could hazard a guess ) but I wish the powers that be, had the same authority here while this crisis lasts.

I had to replenish groceries yesterday. I had hoped to do it all in the village shop, but they didnt have everything, so I drove two miles to the Coop. My experience. At the village store the social distancing was marked on the pavement outside. The queue respected it. One at a time in the store, you chose your products, placed them on the counter and stepped back behind a marked line. The assistant then stepped forward and rang it up. At the Coop. All shopping aisles were marked one way. People were respecting it and observing social distancing (apart from one middle aged dickhead on his phone) At the till, social distancing was marked and everybody was adhering. I did think the till operators needed better protection though. I got everything I needed and it was actually more pleasant than normal. It can be done, I think the big chains need to employ security to enforce it.

But, like I say, I work for Asda, so if you find yourself running short of Sanatogen or incontinence pads or suchlike, do let me know. We`re all in this together!!

Worryingly my wife who is a retired midwife has just had a conversation with an ex colleague who says that as a community midwife, she has no protective clothing or masks and has been told zero on how to cope with the virus situation. It's not much better on delivery suite as mask supply is sporadic at best

My friend, who is a Dentist, told me that supplies of stuff needed for anaesthetic are running very low in hospitals as supplies have dried up from China. Also equipment like face masks etc are in very short supply with hospitals resorting to washing them !

A corona virus victim has been put on the first Dyson ventilator. Apparently he's picking up quite nicely.

260 deaths in last 24 hours. Now oevr 1000. According to BBC, apart from 13 who were aged 63 and over, all of them had underlying health issues. Not belittling the situation. Let's be careful out there (Hill Street Blues, 1981).
