I’d love to know what positive benefit the constant fixation on the death toll is providing. It seems to be the headline 24/7 on the BBC site. PEOPLE DIE FROM CORONAVIRUS! Well yeah, no sh**, it’s a deadly virus and people are going to die and the death toll will increase for the next few weeks- there is no new news there and the lady on today’s report said as much. However there is also no attempt to place it in any sort of context, such as up to 36,000 Brits each year die from air pollution related deaths. Honestly it seems like we’re caught in a race to the bottom by the media at the moment to promote the most fear-mongering aspects of this pandemic whilst suppressing the more hopeful aspects. Heed the government’s advice, stay at home, do your bit and let the rest take care of itself. Anyway, here’s a positive note: FWIW I echo trevorgas’s comments, much appreciation to you OB and your colleagues for your potentially life threatening contribution at this hour in our history. I’d also like to see more shop staff mentioned in the same vein as we couldn’t eat without them still working in a potentially hazardous workplace (if we agree that viral load is a factor). All of the above are making a priceless effort to keeping us all alive and well and it is appreciated. Wasn't it Stalin who said "one death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic"? Regardless if does seem very macabre especially for those losing loved ones seeing them turned into a number. I guess in its defence it is a rather crude instrument to get out the message that people need to comply with the rules. Yeah I understand it from that point of view and I agree that it’s depressing in and of itself to couch it in terms that recall Stalin’s infamous quote...but that’s where we are unfortunately- it is a statistic and one that is being used to beat the public into a state of panic and fear. Maybe I just need to stop reading the news full stop- let’s be fair it’s not like anything is going to change for the next few weeks so keeping tabs on what’s going on is probably counter-productive and generally damaging to one’s optimism at this point in time.

Not good. Apparantly keeping total deaths to below 20,000 will be achievement. "Another 207 people have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus, taking the total to 1,235. The number counts those who died in the 24 hours up to 5pm on Saturday. In England, 190 more people have died in that time after testing positive for coronavirus. NHS England said they were aged between 39 and 105 and all but four patients - aged between 57 and 87 - had underlying health conditions." br] I’d also like to see more shop staff mentioned in the same vein as we couldn’t eat without them still working in a potentially hazardous workplace (if we agree that viral load is a factor). All of the above are making a priceless effort to keeping us all alive and well and it is appreciated. Got to admit, it`s not much fun working in a food distribution warehouse right now, with toxic and pestilential organisms floating about in close proximity. I told my manager straight, "If you expect me to work with City fans, I want a raise. NOW."

Hope this works. "A breathing aid that can help keep coronavirus patients out of intensive care has been created in under a week. University College London engineers worked with clinicians at UCLH and Mercedes Formula One to build the device, which delivers oxygen to the lungs without needing a ventilator." www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52087002

She is showing signs of dementia and has been on the phone lots when she has a bad spell. We keep having to remind her what the rules are. No fear of her leaving the house but psychologically I don't know how she will fare without seeing the grandchildren.

Apparently a German state finance minister has committed suicide over coronavirus The mental strain this is going to take on everybody is hard to imagine the longer this goes on Yes this is my worry as much as the virus itself. This is going to have serious detrimental effects on people's health and wellbeing. What is not helping is everyone judging each other right now. Let's all look out for each other and be kind. We will need this to get through it.

I check out the headlines first thing in the morning, and that`s it for the day. I go to work, ( I know I`m lucky to still be able to do this ) I do my shift, and try to keep things as normal as poss. I spend eight hours taunting the sh1theads and getting it back in return. I keep my head down, and trust the scientists and the politicians ( God help me ) to get things back to normal as quickly as they can. I shop for my mother ( 90 ) and two of her aged friends, which helps make me feel more positive about myself, and therefore better able to cope. Mankind seems to like to horrify and terrify itself. Witness all the horror/disaster films that make so much money at the box office. I don`t know why.

When you wake up to an email from the CEO and tentatively open it. Hard to find motivation and be positive with it all. Must be the same for a hell of a lot of people. Day off today, so trying to relax whilst missus works upstairs. Juggling everything right now is hard work. Sure there will be a few cuddles and tears in our house over the next few weeks most likely over the most mundane trivial sh** rather than anything work related Take care everyone

Sorry but i read that last night and it made me chuckle ,i know it shouldn't have but it did , i had a look at the evening post site yesterday and we have our own share of fuckwits down here too. If you need to have a chat or a rant pm me yer landline number and a name and i'll give you a ring(same goes for anyone), if you do anything you say will be in strictest confidence and not repeated to anyone. Or give the samaritans a ring it's a free call. We all stress in our own ways, a few of us on here suffer with various mental issues (apart for the one we all share called Bristol Rovers). Talking helps even if its just a quick hello to someone you know or a chat with a stranger. I know it's easier said than done (not aimed at you). Try not to get into arguments with other 1/2 during these times. Kids pick all sorts of stuff up and will try to wind parents up try to be firm but fair ,also tell every one you love them before bed as it goes a long way to a calm environment at times like these.

I think in these time it's best to get a true perspective. Out of 67 million people there are going to be more than a few fuckwits but we only have responsibility for our own and our children's behaviour. It would be very sad it we got down because of the behaviour of others. Instead turn your mind to the many hundreds of thousands who are helping each other. After all that's true as well. Don't swallow the media. There's more good than bad.

Please everyone don't let just the bad sink in because that is only what the media will give us. It's even harder now because we cant get out of the house to see the real world we just get fed the unbalanced view. I've only just recently been aware just how doom and gloom the BBC are. The reason for my slowness is because I was brought up just with the BBC. It was hugely positive and motivated people often to the point of unbalanced propaganda. Now we see the opposite which is unbalanced too. We must develop an awareness of what reality is. We will have a battle with what the media tell us, but if we don't we ourselves will become unbalanced. Everything comes down to hard work but it'll be worth it to stay sane.
