If they actively want herd immunity then why make people isolate for 10 days?
The far more likely and believable explanation is just that Boris doesn't know what he's doing.

UK approves first coronavirus treatment pill
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has approved Merck Sharp & Dohme's (MSD) molnupiravir for use in the UK.
The pill, which is taken orally, "is safe and effective at reducing the risk of hospitalisation and death in people with mild to moderate COVID-19 who are at increased risk of developing severe disease," according to a statement.
Health Secretary Sajid Javid said: "Today is a historic day for our country, as the UK is now the first country in the world to approve an antiviral that can be taken at home for COVID-19.
"This will be a gamechanger for the most vulnerable and the immunosuppressed, who will soon be able to receive the ground-breaking treatment."
He added: "We are working at pace across the government and with the NHS to set out plans to deploy molnupiravir to patients through a national study as soon as possible."
Also known as Lagevrio, the drug was developed Ridgeback Biotherapeutics and Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD).
The statement from the MHRA added: "Based on the clinical trial data, Lagevrio is most effective when taken during the early stages of infection and so the MHRA recommends its use as soon as possible following a positive COVID-19 test and within five days of symptoms onset
"Molnupiravir has been authorised for use in people who have mild to moderate COVID-19 and at least one risk factor for developing severe illness. Such risk factors include obesity, older age (>60 years), diabetes mellitus, or heart disease."

Maybe Boris and just about every other leader in the world should have blown the dust off and read the manual on how to deal with a viral pandemic.

How many people are going to self isolate and get paid £90 a week? A lot of people I've met aren't interested. Has any guidance ever been released relating to masks? Such as how long do they last, do they carry the virus, even how to wear them correctly? Not that I've seen.

Stacked up against every other country in the world, do you honestly feel Boris has performed well? Seriously? Personally I don't believe many countries have performed well during the pandemic. It could be argued Carribean and South Pacific Islands have performed well but it's a lot easier to cut those islands off from the rest of the world than it would be to isolate the UK.

That’s a valid point but I don’t think anyone really compares ourselves to small islands, we compare ourselves to some of world’s largest and most populated economies. Just my thoughts FranceGas. We’ve had more deaths and cases than France or Germany, both countries which have slightly larger populations than us. Quite a fair few cases and deaths more in fact. Now I actually think it’s unfair to blame the government entirely for the pandemic health data. I think culturally we’ve found it harder to adapt to the nature of containing pandemic and I think our pre-existing obesity and heart disease rates probably increased it’s lethality. They’re not things you can really change overnight. However the increasingly lax attitude towards the pandemic, it seems to have really slipped off the government’s agenda list when we should have been tightening up rules such as mask wearing and mandatory testing so unnecessary deaths should have been prevented. No-one wants or is asking for anoter lockdown, but it’s just these small measures that don’t make too much impact on most people’s lives that could have been implemented and yet have been ignored due to complacency. Then there’s the baffling decisions at the start of the pandemic to go into lockdown later than all the countries around us, lack of PPE, lack of testing, not realising the severity of the threat till too late. I don’t really see how there’s a way anyone can defend the governments performance. The closest people come to it are like the argument you just employed or saying ‘well nobody could have predicted how bad it could have been’. Such arguments are insufficient because the performance is measured by the response to the pandemic not the prediction of it and we were all in the same boat. The fact is on a number of metric the response just hasn’t been up to scratch.

This story is about Europe, not the EU.We are actually still in Europe and are still the highest contributors to the new cases tally at the moment according to the W.H.O. So not exactly anything for us to be proud of, so not weird at all,if you are referring to me as a ‘certain poster’.

Interesting that we post about a 4th wave in Germany as a negative when their highest case ever has equalled about our lowest case in a couple of weeks or something.
I also notice (neither negative or positive) that EU countries are offering booster jabs to all, not just the vulnerable?
