This story is about Europe, not the EU.We are actually still in Europe and are still the highest contributors to the new cases tally at the moment according to the W.H.O. So not exactly anything for us to be proud of, so not weird at all,if you are referring to me as a ‘certain poster’. Ok , unless you’re comparing us to the likes of Albania , azerbaïdjan, Armenia etc ? Yatton I’m not even understanding where your coming from? I didn’t compare us to anyone as we are still part of Europe, are included in the numbers given in that story, and doing the worst of all European countries at the moment (and have been so for many months). When I said things are looking bleak, that included us as well,so perhaps I should have stated that to clarify my neutrality. 1 1 am not pro Boris (how the feck could anyone be) 2 1 am not anti EU 3 The article I posted was about Covid-19 numbers in EUROPE and I considered it to be of potential interest to posters/readers in this designated Coronavirus thread. There is no other alterior motive!

What's going on in Germany the anti vaxxers are holding sway with a very low % of the population vaccinated, latest report on the dear old Beeb talk about another 100k deaths from this latest wave, seems to have gone pear shaped very quickly, very concerning.

I can remember reading a while ago that Germany is a hotspot for Qanon quacks and conspiracy theorists . How bad are things ? edit: just seen they’ve had 39,000 new cases , the same as the uk today.

Genuine question here, but if Germany is full of antivaxxers and yet their "pear shaped" situation is on a par with our recent average and we have a good uptake then something is wrong somewhere. Either the numbers are wrong or the vaccine makes no difference??

Austria going into a 20 day lockdown , closing all restaurants and cultural events. People only allowed to leave home for essential reasons . Vaccine mandate to start in February .
Meanwhile we just crack on as normal.

Quite looking forward to another full lock down. I don't like people, chance to lose a few pounds with the pubs being shut and saving a load of money at the same time.

Meanwhile we just crack on as normal. Compulsory Covid vaccination in Austria is one of the scariest things to happen in our lifetime. Its a form of rape.No choice, but to take the jab as the powers voted in say so. Wheres the human rights? I dread for that to happen here , but I fear it will. I'm not pro, or anti vaccine. Ive had one jab and got my 2nd next week.Im.also speaking as someone a year ago who ended up in southmead for 3 days from having Covid and having the use of 40% of my lungs at the time and literally could not breathe..It was terrifying.I also speak as someone still suffering from long - Covid a year on. Still forcing people to have it is not the option.

South Africa on the red list.
Fair play, that's pretty quick. I guess its easier for countries we don't care about, or don't have trips booked for.

I'll be mightily f**ked off if France or the UK go into a lockdown for Christmas. Booked to go back to the UK and see my parents (both well into their 80s) for the first time in 2 years. Makes you wonder why we get jabbed if we don't get the freedom we thought we'd all get

Fingers crossed it is not so bad.

That’s why they’ve bought themselves time with the South African countries being put on the red list now . Not sure how to answer your last sentence ….. I’d of thought it was pretty obvious . They couldn’t of given a jab for a mutation that hadn’t yet happened could they ?

Leaving aside the economic impact, politically it's a non starter. Things really will have to have gone badly if we do. Maybe some restrictions like masks or booster requirements for access to venues but not much more. The New Year will be even more testing, we'll have to see how that goes.
