Just the 439 deaths today 🙁 Catch up with the weekend numbers. Also even the BBC now state despite 439 deaths not all of those would have died of covid as within that figure there would be deaths from other causes. Not sure how true it is but I've seen figures floating around that the actual death figure from covid itself is more like 17000. 🙄

The 17,000 figure is based purely on Covid being on the death certificate, it's been roundly panned as highly innaccurate and very misleading as it presumes those who died from underlying health conditions would have died anyway without Covid. Consistency across reported deaths is an issue, that's why excess deaths is probably the most consistent method between comprable countries. Thank you for the sensible reply which is more than be said than the usual 🙄 I get from Yatton.

Listen to the BBC news when the numbers are reported. (Not drivel). Numbers reported on following Tuesday can be higher to account for the weekend delay in counting.(fact not drivel). And yes lower figures of 17000 have been reported (I don't know the true figures any more than you do). Didn't see a post from you yesterday when only 57 deaths were reported. So as I say what was drivel in what I said?

Yes we all know that there’s a lag in deaths over the weekend but it still over 400 ! Four bloody hundred !

Just the 439 deaths today 🙁 They've changed the way they announce that figure, they now say "have died of anything within 28 days of catching Covid".

Not directly related, but perhaps a symptom of the problems, my sister in law was rushed to hospital the other day.
She spent 5 hours in the ambulance (there were 18 parked up outside unable to transfer patients at one point) then 24 hours in A&E before a bed on a ward was found.

Agreed, I think Omicron has taken the fizz out of Covid and we'll learn to live with it, with the vaccines. Unless a new variant comes, that is. Then again, in the past 16 days Boris' parties took away our attention from Covid. Then the war took away our attention from Boris' parties. What catastrophe will happen next?
